Nov 18, 2011We are running a small network with a NAS and networked PC's. The PC's are all running Windows 7 Ultimate. One PC will open files already open by others and does not notify that the file is in use. This user enters information into the file, saves and closes.When the original user (accessing the file first, sometimes adds information) saves and closes the file, the changes from the second user are lost.

Jan 20, 2013I have a pretty old Compaq Pressario that was running 2 512 MB sticks so I added 2 1 GB sticks today but it still shows it only utilizing 1 MB. I put the new sticks in the original slots and moved the old ones over so it is not an issue of installationI ran CPU-Z and all four sticks show up in the SPD tab but the 2 new ones only have values in the timings table under JEDEC #1, the 2 old ones have JEDEC #1, 2, and 3.

When I open the display > screen resolution window, it shows that I have only one display, and gives me no options for multiple displays. The same image is displayed on both screens. My 2nd monitor is hooked up through DVI, and worked just fine with Windows XP. Does anyone know what my problem might be?

Yet none of these solutions seem to be working for me, and I am fairly certain that I am implementing them correctly.Xbox and PC do recognize each other and I can access the libraries on my computer via xbox.I have setup the Windows Media Center on my Xbox.WMC on my computer shows the Xbox is setup as an Extender. It also states that it is ready for use. Every time I try to run WMC on my Xbox it enters the black screen that says Windows Media Center and has the load "bubbles" underneath with the word Contacting... after a period the screen times out and gives me the message:"Connection Failure.The Xbox could not connect to the Windows Media Player PC. Turn the console off and and back on again, and try again."

May 27, 2012I have just found to my irritation that iTunes _will_ check CD info such as song names etc. ....however....
Every now and then it fails to find info. It almost seems as if it does not even try. Usually when I insert a CD, it tells me it's checking with Gracenote, and in short order the details pop up. Then suddenly it will just not get details. I have read the instructions and reasons why.
What does not make sense is that in two instances, Disc 2 of a double disc set will register, but disc one will not. This has happened with Physical Graffiti, by Led Zeppelin, and a Best Of by Faith No More. Of the maybe 1/2 doz CDs that have failed so far, the others were single disc. The failures have failed in spite of repeated attempts, restarts and even a reboot. All the failures were pretty popular, and what I thought were far more obscure stuff worked fine.
EDIT: I now have three double CD sets that have had the first disc fail, while the second gets info. So that is over-represented, but not exclusive: that is to say I have had double CD sets that worked, and single CDs that have failed to supply info from the web.
PC Can't Recognize Modem
Nov 25, 2012I can't connect to the internet on my desktop pc after I reinstalled windows. I have linksys wrt320n router and I can connect to it only by wi-fi. When I try to install router's setup wizard or network magic - it writes that my computer is not connected to router though it is connected in the same way as it was before. In the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION it is also written that network cable is unplugged...I also tryed to connect just internet cable without router - PC also didn't react. Maybe the problem is that my network adapter (nvidia nforce) is without appropriate drivers? Cause I can't find drivers for nvidia nforce networking contoller for windows 7.

Won't Recognize 3TB Size
Mar 20, 2012I'm having an issue with Windows 7 Home not recognizing 3TB drives. They show up as 746.5GB in Windows Setup (3TB in BIOS), and I have them running in RAID1 (via Intel RST 10.8). From everything I could find this was a problem with Intel RST 10.1 and older, and should no longer be an issue OR can be fixed in Windows through some extensive maintenance.
Can I fix this prior to Windows 7 Home Installation? If so, how?
Can't Get System To Recognize OS
Jul 7, 2012I suppose the best place to start would be the message I'm being given when I power my computer on. If I don't choose to enter BIOS (by pressing the Delete key, I believe -- not entirely sure if I'm in the BIOS or in some sort of setup, as this setup screen doesn't mention Biostar, the motherboard's manufacturer, anywhere, although I can set the memory frequency, CPU settings, and all the like in this "setup" screen), I'm brought to a black screen with the words: "Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".I'm guessing this means the computer is either asking me to boot using a hard drive with an existing operating system, or it's asking for an operating system from a DVD or other media-related device. Trouble is, my computer won't detect Windows 7 when I place it into the optical drive, although the drive itself "whirrs" as if it's successfully reading the disc (maybe it's not; I don't really know).Also, my BIOS seems to be all 8-bit, contrary to the slick, 3D-ish, hardware-accelerated look of the BIOS in the motherboard's quick installation guide. Don't know what the deal is there.SATA / serial ATA for both the hard drive and the optical drive; HDD's serial ATA is plugged into SATA 1, and the optical drive's is in SATA 2.The 24-pin power to the motherboard, of course. It didn't satisfyingly "snap" into the socket, though -- it took quite a bit of force to just get it in snugly.The CPU fan.The 4-pin CPU power.The front umbilical cords (reset, power, all that; seems to be working fine, as the reset switch works, the blue power LED functions, the computer powers on immediately after I press the button...)
The front-port USB connectors.If it helps, I'm noticing a six-pin connector in the back of my hard drive, although I have SATA / serial ATA plugged into it. Is this six-pin cable supposed to be important?Beyond that, everything feels snug and proper, really; the SATA cables are firm, the serial ATA cables all snapped into place, the system fans and CPU fan both work, the computer seems to recognize both sticks of RAM, my CPU, my hard drive, and my optical drive... I'm perplexed, really.It might be worth mentioning that my optical drive is over five years old, and that for the past ~year and a half, it's been sitting outside in my old computer case (enduring sub-zero temperatures at one extreme and temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, plus humidity, on the other). I suppose it's also worth mentioning that I'm attempting to use illegitimate Windows 7 discs (three; all burned at different speeds; all from an existing, extremely reputable torrent provider -- at least, reputable as far as pirates are concerned. One was burned at x8, one at x12, and one at x16; and they were burned using a fairly modern optical drive).Oh, and I'm not using the serial ATA included in my case's front umbilicals for anything; I'm using separate serial ATAs for both my hard drive and optical drive, which both, to reiterate, are plugged into SATA ports.

Apr 27, 2012On my PC there is a card reader connected. It shows up as 4 different drives when I look at "My Computer" and elsewhere. One of the slots in the reader is for sim cards. When a sim card is inserted a Windows sound is heard and the "Installing Device Driver" window shows up but then another window stating the installation was not successful. Any further action from within windows does not solve the problem. I tried an external card reader connected via USB and the same negative results. this was tried with 3 different sim cards.

I have tried multiple working USB keyboards and none of them work on the computer. It is Windows 7 for the OS. There are no PS/2 ports to try out the old keyboards. The computer recognizes all the other USB accessories like the mouse and flash drives. For some reason whenever you turn on the comp, as if you were hitting F8 to choose to boot it to safe mode, the keyboard works and you can use it to choose and option. Also, when the the computer asks you to put in the password it works then as well but as soon as it is logged in, it doesn't work anymore.

Jan 24, 2011I did a quick search on this site on "Administrator not reconized" and found the only threads mentioning this problem have both been closed. My problem is that in trying to download the entire HP driver/software disc for my hp printer psc 1350 series, I was not able to download the entire software, because I did not have Administrator's rights, etc, even though I was the only Administrator (and sole user of this computer at that time). I did some research online and followed one suggestion that I followed, which was to change the setting by going to Start, typing 'cmd' in search field, and typing in 'net user administrator /active:yes.' This created another "Administrator" user, which I am now finding quite useless, since many of my programs have already been downloaded on my first "Administrator" status. I need to know how to remove the last one I created (Administrator), if possible. As it stands right now, the one I had before is the only one with the option to delete. (Ugh!) In any case, even having the second Administrator user status, will not allow me to download the above mentioned software completely. So, I went full circle with the same problem, with no solution.
1) Remove the second Administrator user, and 2) how to get Windows 7 to allow me to download the above mentioned. BTW, I have already tried right-clicking the disc drive (setup file) and clicked "Run as Administrator" - all to no avail. Nothing seems to work.
