Windows 7 Does Not Recognize A KVM Switch?
Oct 31, 2012
I have a laptop (Asus K55D) with two OS, Windows 8 and 7, operating through a KVM switch (trendnet tk-409). It is also connected to a Linux machine. Linux machine works fine. When booting the laptop, the Bios and the boot selection work fine too, and so does Windows 8 when booted. But when booted into Windows 7, while the display works, the keyobard and mouse do not.

Whenever I switch user accounts the computer will start the switch and then lock up with a display message that says no signal on the monitor. It happens if the computer has been running for hours or only a couple of minutes. I have to shut the PC off and leave it off for 20-30 minutes. I can then restart and enter any user account. But if I try to switch user or logoff and pick a different user the whole cycle begins anew.

I use windows 7.When I turn on laptop (acer Aspire 5742) cannot connect to internet until I switch user and log in again. Soon as I touch any browser icon the rest of computer stops responding as well. It's only me on computer. Have virgin media security/ spyware/ virus protection. Tried CCleaner. After I switch user everything is fine.Additional info; On 16th October had great difficulty getting my emails from Yahoo. Sometimes sign-in box appeared without my security signature and different style of writing for browser remembered log-on details.

I have a computer that I bought refurbished and they loaded the 32 bit version of Windows Home Premium. I need to run the current version of Photoshop and it only runs on 64 bit.Need to do a clean install and I have no problem with that since their are very few programs on the computer. My problem is I have a disk from the Reseller that says "Windows 7 Home Premium". Will that also carry the 64 bit version of the software? Also the disk says "Licensed for use with the "Registered Refurbisher". I did license the software when I got the computer.I ran the Windows 7 upgrade utility and it told me the 64 bit is OK to load.

Just a home user. Mostly gaming. Home oriented stuff includes Office XP (2002), and Quicken. The other main software I use is Adobe Premier Pro CS3 video software (includes Encore, the DVD writing program), and Visual Studio 2005.
My system, isn't the latest, but newer stuff isn't a lot faster yet:
Intel core 2 extreme X6800 (2.93ghz)
Intel D975XBX motherboard, 2GB 667 mhz 4-4-4-10 ddr2ram.
ATI HD4870 (PCI Express) video card, 512 MB ram
Sound Blaster X-Fi Plantinum
4 Segate 7200.12 500GB sata drives, paired into two striped virtual drives via BIOS.
1 Seagate ??? 250gb IDE drive, used only for boot up.
All drives have multiple partitions.
Windows XP SP3 is installed on a partition on one of the striped sata drives.
Windows XP X64 is installed on a partition on the ide drive.
The second pair of drives are used for swap files, temp files, and backup.
There's also a USB drive I use for backup.
Each instance of OS is used to backup the "other" OS partition, and also I use X64 for for some 64 bit programming with Visual Studio 2005.
Other than one version of Halo, I haven't seen any games that don't run on Windows XP. I read that most games play faster with Windows XP than with Windows Vista, and Tom's recent article seems to state that Windows 7 isn't faster with gaming than Windows Vista.
So bottom line, is there any point in switching to Windows 7 (or replacing my XP X64 with Windows 7)?

I currently have a 64 bit laptop, but purchased a 32 bit desktop. I need to transfer documents from my laptop to my pc, but it tells me it cannot do a transfer. I also tried saving them on a flash drive and just copying them over to the new computer, but it just looks like giberrish-like symbols. How do I just transfer my documents without having to manually retype them in the new computer?

I installed the Windows 7 trial version a while ago. My laptop originally came with Windows XP and I would like to switch back to using that. I still have my disc to put XP back on the computer but when I put it in, I get error messages.

For about a couple of weeks now I cannot seem to be able to switch to either my Guest user account or any other account for that matter (I had added my roommate as another user for the past year and things were running smoothly). I subsequently deleted his account after this problem started but STILL cannot switch into the GUEST account.
The switch user page loads, but immediately after clicking on the GUEST icon, the screen attempts to switch by changing BUT a few seconds into the mode reads "logging off" and then immediately reverts back to the icon screen with no progress.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. This is kinda frustrating, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have an old Emachine that I have hooked up to my HD TV. I would like to upgrade the ram but the techs at EM say that I am at my limit of 2gigs RAM. The CPU is a 64bit 1.8, according to SIW (see photo) and it also states that RAM can be increased to 8 gigs.(see photo) I am running WXP 32bit. If I upgrade to 7 64bit can I upgrade the ram also? I also have a 1gig Gforce 9400 GT.

I've got a new Sandy Bridge-based PC which booted fast but has naturally slowed down now that I've put my various applications on. Is there a handy utility anywhere that can tell me which ones are safe to untick in the System Configuration screen (msconfig)? The only one I felt safe to untick so far is 'Apple Mobile Device'.

I have PC tools firewall plus installed on my system. Is it really necessary to switch on windows own firewall along with that? Because it has switched off windows firewall. I am asking this question because somewhere in this forum I read that we should switch windows firewall as well. It is difficult to go to windows firewall and switch it on every time I open my computer.

Is there a way going from a monitor 1 (laptop) and monitor 2 (flatscreen) to the TV that's hookup up with Video-S cable without having to shutdown & unplug the monitor2 and restart. When using Vista I could do this using AVI program.

Whenever I have multiple windows open and I want to toggle through a window I have to manually move the window out of view. It's like the first window I open has priority and is always the first layer, I cant move a window over it only behind it.

I had left my laptop idle for an hour or so after around 3 hours after I booted it up, and luckily I was there to see it: it simply switched off, and any attempt to get into windows through GRUB fails. Ubuntu loads up just fine, but attempting to boot windows results in a plain black screen that goes nowhere. I can't boot into safe mode. My laptop's built in DVD drive doesn't work, so I tried it using the installation disc to repair win7, but after I select my windows operating system from the menu, it simply shows a blank image of the background of the default windows 7 login screen.

I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my system. Everything runs great except one thing. I'm not able to switch users like I used to on my Vista system. The 'switch user' is greyed out. I have 3 user accounts on my system. On my earlier Vista system, if i were to put the system in standby mode and then re-open it again, it would show me a password field (since that account was password protected) and a 'Switch User' button below the password field. However no such thing shows in Win 7. Both the vista and win 7 were home premium editions.

I know this thread exists elsewhere but it was from a while ago so I was wondering if anyone knows switch from WMP12 to WMP11 running 64-bit Windows 7...
I need the advanced tag feature back and WMP12 is quite lacking in this, as well as in many other areas.

I want to upgrade the harddrive and just bought a seagate momentus 7200rpm to change my old hardrive. I know my ram cannot be upgraded cause it is the maximum 4gb that it is. I would like to be able to use though this 1 more gb, that now with 32bit windows cannot be used. I am thinking in bying windows 7 64bit but have no idea if my system will be compatible, like my processor, my motherboard, my ram, everything. Can you please tell me if it is possible to switch to 64 bit version or should i stick to 32bit because i might have things not working on my laptop? [code]

I changed the appropriate setting in the registry. (msachi > start: 0) Then I changed the setting in my motherboard and Windows froze upon starting up, and my system rebooted.
The thing is, I changed it to AHCI before. It worked fine! I then switched back to IDE while trying to fix a problem with eSATA detection (turned out to be a faulty cord), Now I can't switch back! Sigh. I really would like my eSATA to be plug and play.
