PC Restarts Abruptly With "starting" Options Prompt?

i have this problem with my laptop. After working a while on my laptop (duration differs from a few seconds to few minutes to few hours) after which the laptop screen goes blank/black suddenly and restarts itself with starting options such as:start windows in safe modesatrt windows in safe mode with networkingstart windows form last best known configuration and Start windows normally.Even after deleting all the data from the computer and installing the Windows 7 again from scrap...the same problem persist. Wonder what the solution would be.

When I start Windows 7 64 I get 3 boot options. Windows 72. Windows 7 (recovered)3.Windown 7 (recovered)The first 2 are both dead and I would like to know how to make them go away. I used the start up disk it shows all 3 options but the first 2 it says that there is 0kb in both files and that only the 3rd oprion has any info in it

I have problems (hardware/software)when starting my laptop (Presario F700) AND after getting to my desktop.When I start my computer, there are three things that can happen:1) It will stay at the "Compaq" screen for a while (like three long minutes) then go to my desktop.2) It will go passed the "Compaq" screen and stay at a black screen with a blinking dash (again for about three minutes) then go to my desktop.3) Or it will go passed the "Compaq" screen, stay at the black screen with blinking dash but then it will eventually say "The Operating System was not found"This is the least of my worries though, when I get to my desktop, after about three minutes, it will automatically restart.I am able to stay on safe mode without it restarting.Another problem I am having is when I try to open a program like Notepad or Command prompt (and probably more) I get this message: "The item '***' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly"

I'm doing a clean format to Compaq presario c700. It restarts after the "starting windows" appeared while installing windows 7 ultimate. before restarting a black screen and a mouse cursor appears briefly and it will restart...What will I do to resolve my problem??? and the laptop has no OS, when I boot it normally " ntldr is missing " shows..

Recently installed Ashes Cricket 2009 but system shuts down abruptly after 10 minutes of playing the game. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit version, 3 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 310M Graphics Card.

I own a gateway notebook as my secondary machine but since I sold my workhorse it should be my main machine this week before I buy a couple new macs and transfer this buddy to my mom, as of this morning I tried to wipe off the ATI HD3200 driver and update it as the scaling options were not showing up but after I got the old driver off I tried rebooting the system and started to have problems, now I can only boot in safe mode and it shuts down abruptly after some time (does not come back up if I don't press the power button), I used driver sweeper to get rid of the old driver.

Ok So I got myself into a unique bind here. I was trying to install some custom system files (for a theme) and I did it wrong and now I cant open explorer.exe . I dont want to goto a backup because this is a easy fix. (in my view). So I need to know how to run command prompt with administrative privleges from command prompt.
I am trying to do this command: copy explorer.exe C:Windows
So if there is also another command I can just tack onto that that gives me admin rights to do it. I would be happy.

I'm having an issue on my computer where command prompt will not open. I looked in the system32 folder and cmd.exe is missing, however there is cmd.exe.mui is there. I also tried to run hijackthis to get a log, however the program keeps spitting out a blank log when I click save log.

I was installing 7 on a friends laptop last night, everything was going fine, however after the installation has finished, upon turning on the laptop, windows does not boot. In the top left of the screen is a blinking command prompt like icon. Cannot type/ do anything from this point. If the 7 disk is in the option to boot from disk comes up, but this leads straight to install windows. There is a repair option, and it will allow me to scan for start up errors, but none are found. It also says windows 7 is definatly installed on the C partition.

I am trying to run command prompt in windows 7 professional, but it is not appearing in front of me.
1. I tried to run it from Start --> Accessories --> Command Prompt
2. I tried to run by typing cmd on the start menu and then finding the .exe file
3. I tried to run using Run command by typing cmd in Run dialog box
4. I tried to run it from C:/Windows/system32 folder
5. I also tried to run it using right click and then selecting Run as Administrator
But whatever I tried to do I cannot see the command prompt window.Also, when I run the task manager, I can only see the cmd.exe running in the 'processes tab' and that too one new process for each time I have clicked on the cmd.exe.But it does not show cmd.exe in the 'applications tab' where it should be showing.

My computer (Toshiba Satellite running Windows 7 Home Premium) acquired some sort of terrible virus and shut itself down. When I try to turn it on, it goes into startup repair, and startup repair always fails. I have tried every single system restore point, and that fails too. When I try to start it in any of the safe modes, it simply goes back to startup repair and fails again.
He was able to access C: in command prompt. All my files are in their original locations and haven't been corrupted, but there are also four folders with names like xisdfl83lkd02 (seriously) which definitely weren't there before and presumably contain whatever has crippled my precious laptop. Whenever he tried to delete those folders, the command prompt looked like it had accepted the delete command, but then when he went back into C they were still there. So the bad files are immortal or something.
He said he was able to move things around, so I should get an external hard drive to back up my files, wipe the computer back to factory settings, then put my files back on it from the external hard drive. Well, now I have an external hard drive but don't have him around to do this.
I have absolutely no experience with command prompt, and I've read a bunch of tutorials on how to use it, but they aren't dumbed down enough for me to understand them. I need someone to walk me through it.
I can access the command prompt, but it goes into X:\sources\recovery\Tools> as a starting line. The thing at the top says Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe. I didn't even know X was a real drive. I try to get it to C and it just goes back to X. When I type cd E:\ or cd F:\ trying to figure out where my external hard drive is, E says "The device is not ready" and F takes me right back to X:\sources\recovery\Tools>.
How do I get to the directory where I can find my files and move them to the hard drive?

I have a customer's laptop that will not start. Upon start up, it looks like bootmgr is corrupted or missing. I have managed to boot using a Windows 7 disc and get into the CMD promt. However, when I try to run "diskpart" it just gets stuck and will not give me a prompt to start erasing/formatting the drive(s). I have tried re-installing Win7, as well as tried repairing so that I could roll back the drive, and none of those work. This is an HP G72 laptop (Win7 - Core I-3).

Alright so for the past few days my girlfriend's computer has been having a very quick command-prompt-looking pop-up within 10 minutes of starting up. We weren't able to catch a glimpse of what it said until today, as the pop up is literally less than a second long.We recorded her screen and were able to pause at the time of the pop up, discovering what the pop up is.

It all works
BUT - You don't get the prompt - "Please press any key to boot from the CD".
Now I LIKE this prompt as it means you can do an "Unattended" install
If your system boots up during installation (usually does at least once) then you'll get the "Copying Windows" start up stuff all over again.
Anyway to get the USB stick to behave EXACTLY as the CD does with the boot prompt.

However, the endless prompts to change my password are driving me nuts. Here's the message: Your password is going to expire in 'n' days. Would you like to change it now? Generally this defaults to 14 days, and a Windows computer will ask me if I want to change my password - every single time the computer is restarted over the next 14 days. Here's the crazy thing... if I set my password to expire in 90 days, I want to change my password in 90 days, not 76, 77, 78 days... 90 days. At the very least I would appreciate one of those handy "do not ask me again" options, so that I'm not prompted again until the 90 days has passed. This is one of the most-annoying features of Windows, close behind the User Account Control, which asks me if I'm really sure I want to run some program. I mean, after clicking a link, choosing to download the file when prompted, and clicking "Run" in that dialog window (if using IE), I might not be 100% certain I wanted to run the executable, right?

I encountered this problem today when I restarted my computer. When I boot up my screen is black for 10 seconds the the logon screen comes on but there is no login box with my user account picture and password box. There is only the windows 7 ultimate at the bottom the accessibility button and the power button. I think this problem is caused by me changing my logon background using this tool Link

This probably is not new to many, but I find it useful.There are times I want an elevated command prompt. I usually type in "cmd", right click on it and run as administrator. If you need an elevated command prompt now and then, simply create a shortcut to "cmd". Right click on the shortcut, left click on properties. Click the shortcut tab and select "advanced". Finally, you can select "run as administrator".Like I said, just something I didn't think about before, but it's handy to have.

so today i tried to open my command prompt because i tend to allocate more ram to minecraft whenever i play. I searched for it, and it was not even there. i searched cmd, went into accessories, and even did SHIFT-RC and it said "application not found". so is there any way i can get this back?

I installed Homegroup on a new laptop. I can access the other two computers in my house. however, when I try to access the new laptop from the other computers, I get a user id & password prompt.
I found out that the time on the new computer was one hour off, and it was set for "Turn on password protected sharing". Is it possible that the changes I made were not written to the registry?

I've set all the Advanced Sharing settings as I always do, with no password for sharing, Network discovery, sharing allowed, but one PC on this network insists on prompting for a Network password when trying to connect to the other. It stopped for awhile but is back to doing it again now, also apparently blocking sync via Skydrive Skyshell. Is there another setting I need to check which I'm missing?

I'm using a SSH server to remotely access my notebook from work. It works well for SFTP and remote command line access using a dedicated, non-admin, user account.Problem is when I want to run something that requires admin permission under that connection. The server runs cmd.exe under the context of a non-admin user I've created for it, so I'm limited in what I can do. Question is, how can I "elevate" that remote command prompt to execute admin-only programs and commands? UAC of course will not help under that conditions.
