Every now and then my computer shuts down then restarts on its own. I notice that any usernames and passwords that I have set to remember are reset. I get this error in my event viewer I don't know if its related :
"Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected".
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate.

About a week ago my PC had restarted on its own when I wasn't there and was stuck on a screen saying "Reboot and Select Proper Boot device or Insert Boot media in Selected Boot device and press any key ". I manually restarted the PC but nothing was shown on the screen. I turned off the PC, disassembled it and took out the BIOS battery and left it there for about 30 minutes. I then put everything back together and booted. The PC started fine but after about one hour it crashed for no reason. Since last week sometimes it crashes or restarts either within minutes from logging into windows either within an hour but never over 2 hours. At first I though it was a power supply issue, I had a Corsair VX550W for the last 4 years and so I replaced it with a brand new Corsair TX650, this has not solved anything though. But since I replaced the PSU the PC now only restarts every 1 hour when I am logged into windows. However, at this moment I have left it open into BIOS and it is working for 2 hours without any restart.

I started having this problem about 2 hours ago, when suddenly my laptop that worked perfectly fine for nearly 2 years just rebooted itself. It is now rebooting about every 5 mins and I can't do anything about it. I tried to start it in safe mode and it did not reboot.

I wanted to upgrade XP to 7, I've upgraded it partially when in XP. So now XP is no more, and I only have to boot from the DVD.But now I have the problem:Every time I insert the Windows 7 DVD the pc says "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." (as normal), When I've pressed the any key, the PC does absolutely nothing and just restarts. After that, I fiddled around in my BIOS, "turned a few switches", made a copy on a fresh DVD. Now when I insert the DVD, the PC says:Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...When I've pressed the any key the PC says:Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...When I've pressed the any key the PC does absolutely nothing, no reboot, no loading, no next screen, no nothing, altough the underscore flashes trougout the whole time.I've cleaned the pc from the inside, (with a vacuumcleaner), opened the CD/DVD player, blowed air in it so the dust could come out... Nothing works...Could someone please tell what's wrong? Is it the DVD? Is it the DVD-player? Is it the motherboard? Is it because my keyboard does not have the any key? Is het something wrong with my BIOS settings?

I recently installed windows 7 64-bit ultimate using a clean install since i had windows xp. Everything installed ok. The problem I'm having is that when i shut down, it automatically restarts instead of shutting down. It runs through the BIOS and POSTS as if i restarted. There are no errors listed when it restarts. It's as if i pressed restart instead of shutdown. The only way i can turn off my computer is when i hold down my power button for 3 seconds.

I have CD-RW's and I like to know I can use them to recover my laptop failure system. My problem is that I can't access my desktop,Dell XPS. Its just restarts at the booting process. I think its a virus that is causing it. But I also want to restore my computer to its original factory position. How can I resolve this without going into the desktop?

I've just moved flat and after I did my computer keeps rebooting itself every so often. There doesn't seem to be any reason to it. I've check that all my fans are still working and that all the cables and cards and what not are corrected install and that something hasn't been knocked but everything seems fine to me. I had a wee gander round the internet and it pointed me to check my system log and the two error codes I'm getting every time this happens is: Event I.D 41 + Event I.D 6008. The I have just recently got a new Graphics card, 4gb extra of ram and a wireless adapter. These were all installed on a clean version of windows 7.

Today, 5/1 I received quite a few win updates to install. After installing all my PC started restarting itself every few minutes. I went to system recovery and to the restore point created and then all was OK. I installed the updates a few at a time until I was able to recreate the problem and then narrowed to KB 2506014 for W-7 x64 based systems.

Whenever I go to the "Programs and Features" module in Win 7 I get the trusty old, "Explorer has stopped working and is restarting" my taskbar goes for a split second and P&F closes. I have gone to Event viewer to look for a reason and 9 out of 10 crashes acording to the faulting module is "msi.dll" Isn't msi the Microsoft installer? Anyway, how can I go about fixing this or troubleshooting it? It is to say the least annoying. My Computer is an Acer laptop Win 7 HP x64/8gb RAM /Core i5 430Mprocessor.

I bought a HP P6510f PC about 1.5 years ago. In the past month the computer started having problems. The first sign of problems was powering on and the computer would not boot up but instead go to a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner of screen. I ran a diagnostic through the internal software, I believe it's called PC Doctor and all componenets checked out fine - RAM, CPU, Hard Drive, etc. I then decided to reinstall windows 7. After installing the computer started to work like new again, except the next day it restarted itself and went to a black screen. It's done this a few times now. Sometime it boots up fine, other times it gets stuck and won't boot, just a black screen or the HP screen welcome screen with option for setup f10 (though won't respond).
Are there ways I can check for internal malfunctioning hardware?I did go into event viewer and noticed a few errors under System and Application that I have pasted below Critical - Kernel 41 power "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." Error - Event 20 - Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB954430).Also, this shows up as "error" - "The previous system shutdown at 12:37:29 AM on 12/31/2011 was unexpected" [code]

I have had my laptop (Dell Inspiron N7110) for less than a year, and everything has always run smoothly. I performed a format of my hard drive yesterday and installed a clean copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. Everything went fine with the format process, so I didn't think anything was amiss until I tried to shut down the laptop before going to bed. And that's when I discovered that it won't shut down, unless I physically hold down the power button (which I don't like doing, for obvious reasons.) If I choose the "Shut Down" option from the Start menu, the laptop goes through the "Shutting down..." process perfectly fine, but the laptop boots up again immediately upon turning off. So it's like instead of shutting down, the system just does a restart. Which is fine for some things, but I do eventually want to shut down my laptop (I don't like leaving it on overnight in case there's an electrical storm, for example.)

My computer has been restarting randomly for the past few days and it's driving me crazy since I'm a student and I really need my computer to do all of my homeworks. After the last unplanned restart, I went to event viewer--windows logs--system, and it appears that the restart was because of:Source: USER32The process svchost.exe has initiated the restart of computer HOST-PC on behalf of user NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM for the following reason: Operating System: Hot fix (Planned)Reason Code: 0x80020011Shutdown Type: restart

So, about 2 weeks ago I got an email from my ISP that said they were switching from CA internet security to McAfee. I removed CA and installed McAfee. Two days later, my PC restarted while I was watching a movie. No BSOD, no warning, just a restart. When it comes back up I get the "Windows recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message. It has done it randomly ever since. I can be surfing the web or playing a game or watching a movie. It doesnt happen during any specific activity. I can have several things running or just one thing.I dont get it.So, since I despise McAfee anyway, I uninstalled it and got AVG for now. But, about 20 minutes after I did that, it restarted again. I dont get it. I read the post instructions and did what it said to do, hopefully correctly. So, hopefully someone can tell me what the deal is and how to fix it. Ive never had any issues out of this PC that I didnt cause and fix right away until I switched antivirus programs. [code]

It does not BSOD, it only restarts itself whenever I am in game. Sometimes it does it right away as soon as I start the game, other times it goes for twenty minutes before it restarts. My PC is an Alienware AURORA_R2, Processor is Intel Core i5 760 @ 2,80Ghz, 12.0 GB RAM, 64-bit Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium and Service Pack 1. I have a Acer Aspire 6920G which restarts very suddenly without BSOD. It actually made only two BSODS. analyzing the Bsods to pinpoint the cause of the restarts. It is not memory/heating/harddisk problem - already tested. It happens even when trying to boot Fedora/Ubuntu. So it must be some faulty component/module on the motherboard. In windows the PC either hangs or crashes at desktop. The crash happens the moment I click twice on my computer or just the start icon. I tried without battery and with other power supply - same issue. Safe mode works okay. I disabled all the drivers I could from msconfig but it made no difference.

This one is new in build 7201. Whenever I switch my monitor off, the entire system restarts. This happens every time.
I did have nVidia driver problems with the older builds, but I could always revert to the default driver. However this time, the default driver was already giving me issues, periodically going into BSOD. I decided to download the latest beta from nVidia hoping it would at least solve the random BSOD.
Well... it did. But it gives me a the issue I mention in the subject.
