How To Change Password Prompt

Aug 8, 2011

However, the endless prompts to change my password are driving me nuts. Here's the message: Your password is going to expire in 'n' days. Would you like to change it now? Generally this defaults to 14 days, and a Windows computer will ask me if I want to change my password - every single time the computer is restarted over the next 14 days. Here's the crazy thing... if I set my password to expire in 90 days, I want to change my password in 90 days, not 76, 77, 78 days... 90 days. At the very least I would appreciate one of those handy "do not ask me again" options, so that I'm not prompted again until the 90 days has passed. This is one of the most-annoying features of Windows, close behind the User Account Control, which asks me if I'm really sure I want to run some program. I mean, after clicking a link, choosing to download the file when prompted, and clicking "Run" in that dialog window (if using IE), I might not be 100% certain I wanted to run the executable, right?

Homegroup Password Prompt?

Aug 17, 2011

I installed Homegroup on a new laptop. I can access the other two computers in my house. however, when I try to access the new laptop from the other computers, I get a user id & password prompt.

I found out that the time on the new computer was one hour off, and it was set for "Turn on password protected sharing". Is it possible that the changes I made were not written to the registry?

What Causes Prompt For Network Password

Oct 29, 2012

I've set all the Advanced Sharing settings as I always do, with no password for sharing, Network discovery, sharing allowed, but one PC on this network insists on prompting for a Network password when trying to connect to the other. It stopped for awhile but is back to doing it again now, also apparently blocking sync via Skydrive Skyshell. Is there another setting I need to check which I'm missing?

Ctrl+alt+del Pressed, No Password Prompt: Unable To Login

Aug 9, 2011

my issue is as follows:

->Win 7 Pro
->Boots up shows "press ctrl+alt+del" screen
->Once this is pressed, the prompt for the password does not show (mouse moves not frozen)
->Unable to recover from rescue cd

After toiling with this issue for some time I found that when the computer is shut down properly, the next login does not show the password prompt. If the computer is shut down via a 5 second power-button press, the password prompt appears the next time the computer is turned on after the "start widows normally" dos screen. I had an older image of the os on a harddrive (replaced HD with solid state) that I used to "restore" from. The issue happened again some 6 days later. I can not keep restoring/backing up all the time as it is very time consuming (there is a lot of changing data on this computer and having to back up like this all the time is not a realistic solution).

Disabling Network Password Prompt For Windows 7 & Ulitmate X64?

Nov 6, 2011

I have 1 desktop and 2 laptops all running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Everything was working find till I had a fatal crash HD crash. Had to reinstall everything new on a Fresh HD.With the New install, my laptops can't access my desktop with out a network name and password?!? HOWEVER, my desktop can access share files on both laptops, but not the other way around. I've had things working before...and nothing has changed except the new OS install on a new HD.I don't understand what I am missing? All comps are able to see each other, I just cant get rid of the prompt for the user name and password when trying to access the fresh install on my desktop.I've gone in to the advance network sharing settings and check the radio button to "turn off password protected sharing" That should have done the trick.It seems to work on my laptops....but NO DICE????Last desperate thing, I even set up a HOMEGROUP(which i never needed to since i got the file share to work fine) BUT even in the HOMEGROUP, the same prompt for a user name and password keeps popping up when trying to access the desktop and Not from the desktop to the laptops?

Enforce A Delete Admin Password Prompt Request On Multi-users Sys?

Dec 23, 2012

I have a multi-users Windows 7 (64bits) system, with one Administrator priviledge accounts, the others being non-admin. Disk is partition with system on C and data on D and E.

All users can access to D and E.

How to enforce security properties so that delete file or folder on D or E must prompt for admin password? I see that I can totally prevent DELETE, but I just want to permit delete, when user successfully entered admin pwd on prompt.

If I right-click on D: Then properties and view security tab, I see 4 groups:

* Authentified users

* System

* the admin account

* users (the admin account as user)

How To Change System Attribute For All Folders Using Command Prompt

Feb 25, 2012

I work at a school as Computer Applications Technology teacher.The students bring homework to school on their flashdrives, and though we have good antivirus software at school, the viruses on their home PC's will often do considerable damage to the data on their flashdrives.One of the most common problems we have is some virus that sets the "system" attribute on all folders, effectively hiding them, and then creating shortcuts named after those folders, inviting people to double-click them, thereby effectively installing the virus locally (though our antivirus blocks it). So the problem is that those folders (with their homework) can only be revealed by going into "Folder Options" and selecting "Show hidden files and folders" and removing the option to "Hide protected operating system files". This is a big breach in security.So I usually have to change those settings, run the Attrib command in the command line to change all the folders, and then re-enable the settings.All of this takes up valuable time.What I would like to know is, is there a way to give the attrib command once, thereby changing the attributes on all folders on a specific flashdrive? I played around with the /S /D and *.* settings, but couldn't accomplish anything.

Change Time To Display OS From Installation Disk Command Prompt

Jan 11, 2011

I was stupid enough to manually delete my acronis files when I couldn't uninstall it the ordinary way.

Now windows 7 gives a short BSOD after logo and computer restarts. Startup repair doesn't fix the problem, neither from my windows 7 usb or from laptop, I have tried it several times.

I don't have any system restore created. I don't have any system image either to restore to either.

I really don't want to do a clean install again and wanted to try to do a repair upgrade, the problem is I can't boot into windows to begin with, and this seems to be needed to do a repair upgrade. When I try to do it from the USB it says I need to boot into windows first.

Is there a way to start the repair upgrade without having to boot into windows?

When I press F8 I don't get the options of safe mode, probably because I set the "time to display list of os to 0". Since I can't boot into windows 7 I can't change this above 0. Is there a a way to set this time above 0 from command prompt from my windows 7 installation usb?

Command To Change The Path Using Environment Variable From Command Prompt?

Jun 9, 2012

In UNIX, for changing the directory path, there is "cd" command. .This works fine in windows 7 too.. But the problem comes when we are trying to change the path using environment variables. .

In UNIX, cd $JAVA_HOME changes the path to the value set for JAVA_HOME,

Similarly is there any command in Windows which does the trick from command prompt for changing path using Environment variables. .

Unable To Change Password

Aug 26, 2011

I don't change my passwords often but figured it was about time to do the rounds and change them. I use the same password on all my computers and when I change one I change them all to the same p/w.Right now I am using Linux distro (Kubuntu) to ask for help here.I find that the change to the admin password on my Win7 drive is not happy with the new password. I went around and did them all at he same time. I can access every other OS on every drive with my new password but Win7 wont let me in. I have 3 of my daughters personal log ins and a guest log in as well as my own on win7 . I am the only admin user on the machine. Long story short, is there a fix for this or do I put a live Linux on the box and remove all my data, photos etc on to another drive and then re-install my win7. The Win7 disc is a genuine, legit paid for copy and other than this difficulty I don't have any problems with it.

Windows Won't Save Password Change

Aug 6, 2011

I had this OLD password that I had set. During this time I had that password I did use windows' system image utility to backup my old 500GB drive to restore it on a 1TB drive and I did that while I had this password.Now, when I try to change the password it will not save the change. When I change it, I can logout and it will accept the NEW password, but once I reboot or shut down and it comes back up, it only accepts the OLD password.
