Enforce A Delete Admin Password Prompt Request On Multi-users Sys?
Dec 23, 2012
I have a multi-users Windows 7 (64bits) system, with one Administrator priviledge accounts, the others being non-admin. Disk is partition with system on C and data on D and E.
All users can access to D and E.
How to enforce security properties so that delete file or folder on D or E must prompt for admin password? I see that I can totally prevent DELETE, but I just want to permit delete, when user successfully entered admin pwd on prompt.
If I right-click on D: Then properties and view security tab, I see 4 groups:
I need to replace a W2K computer on a domain with a Windows 7 computer(laptop), but I want to keep the same computer name.I need the ip, username, profile to stay the same. Can I delete the computer from the domain and name the new computer that name I deleted and still keep the users profile on the new machine, as if it was the old one?
On my laptop (running Win 7), I made 2 accounts, Admin and a standard user. When I am logged into the standard user, if i try to do something that needs elevated privileges such as deleting an icon, or installing a .exe file, the UAC will prompt me for Admin credentials which I will type in. However, on my desktop (Windows 7 Ultimate) I am trying to delete icons on the standard user account and it will NOT prompt for credentials. It will give me an error that says I do not have the correct privileges to do this (which I know I don't).
I have a special case where a user needs to run an installed executable as an admin. This exe was written for XP and will only work properly when ran as admin. I do not want the user to have an admin account or the admin pass, but he needs to be able to start and stop this program at will. I have tried checking the box to always run as admin, creating a desktop shortcut to run as admin and I even tried creating a shortcut that uses the command line runas /savecred but all attempts failed. Windows 7 always asks for the admin pass. I understand this is how it is supposed to be, but are there any options available to me? If I turn off UAC will that do the trick? But will turning off UAC override the GPO I have setup for non-admins?
keep getting this admin prompt to enter username and password when i installsomething. the machine is part of a network. and i am logged in as a user. how do i change settings so a user never gets the prompt
my brother has disabled my rights an admin on MY PC but in order to install some new software i need the admin rights... is there any way of gaining admin rights through a standard user WITHOUT the use of my brothers admin account?
In Win Xp Media Center I always ran my computer as the 'admin' because for some reason certain programs wouldn't run or install as a regular user. In my Windows 7 machine I'm wondering if it's normal or advisable to create a normal user account for myself and always use that or run as admin all the time?
Does Windows 7 have the same problem I experienced in XP, or was I doing something wrong in Xp anyways and should've used a regular user account?
When I am on a limited user and I try to set permissions of its folders I need to provide the admin password to proceed, why?
Now the problem with User Account Control. When I click on advanced sharing, or try to do any activity that requires admin priviliges, User Account Control window pops up, you know, that window asks for the password and it somehow blocks the desktop and anything else so I cant take a picture of it.
Anyway after I provide the admin's password, the pop up closes but the process hangs/freezes does not respond for eternity.
If it is an app, it does not run. If it is a folder, the explorer thread(is it thread?) related to that folder is not responding for eternity and it is stuck, hangs. however you want to call it.
IT setting. Multiple departments with unique network printers but a common image. Creating scripts have been considered, but become impractical for each unique department in the domain. While on the local admin account can I install printers to other accounts on the computer?
When joining a set of laptops to the domain it prompts for domain admin credentials and appears to be successful, but gives an error of 'Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to " " failed. The name will remain domain.local The error was: The RPC Server is unavailable.
When attempting to add Domain Users to the local administrators group: Windows cannot process the object with the name "domain users" because of the following error: The RPC server is unavailable.
This happens even when wired on the network. I have tried uncommenting the localhost line in HOSTS, and manually adding the DNS server (which is also the DC).
there's a folder that users scan things into. however this folder needs to be cleaned up on a regular basis. to do this, I have created a .bat file that will clear up all of the documents in that folder. there is also an auto answer of yes so that when it prompts, it automatically replies yes. however, I'd like this to delete items say 2 weeks old and older. is there a way to do this?
However, the endless prompts to change my password are driving me nuts. Here's the message: Your password is going to expire in 'n' days. Would you like to change it now? Generally this defaults to 14 days, and a Windows computer will ask me if I want to change my password - every single time the computer is restarted over the next 14 days. Here's the crazy thing... if I set my password to expire in 90 days, I want to change my password in 90 days, not 76, 77, 78 days... 90 days. At the very least I would appreciate one of those handy "do not ask me again" options, so that I'm not prompted again until the 90 days has passed. This is one of the most-annoying features of Windows, close behind the User Account Control, which asks me if I'm really sure I want to run some program. I mean, after clicking a link, choosing to download the file when prompted, and clicking "Run" in that dialog window (if using IE), I might not be 100% certain I wanted to run the executable, right?
I installed Homegroup on a new laptop. I can access the other two computers in my house. however, when I try to access the new laptop from the other computers, I get a user id & password prompt.
I found out that the time on the new computer was one hour off, and it was set for "Turn on password protected sharing". Is it possible that the changes I made were not written to the registry?
I've set all the Advanced Sharing settings as I always do, with no password for sharing, Network discovery, sharing allowed, but one PC on this network insists on prompting for a Network password when trying to connect to the other. It stopped for awhile but is back to doing it again now, also apparently blocking sync via Skydrive Skyshell. Is there another setting I need to check which I'm missing?
I'm trying to install Windows 7 x64 on a machine that currently has the Windows 7 RC on it. When I boot from the DVD, it immediately goes into "Windows is loading files...", which it does for 30 minutes or so and then reboots, at which point I get a message that says that Windows cannot start because files have changed.
Normally when I boot from the DVD, the first thing it asks me is whether I want to create/delete partitions, do a fresh install or an upgrade, etc. I'm not getting any of that. Anyone know what's wrong?
Im trying to activate the administrator account, which requires administrative access however when trying to do a Run As on cmd It says "to continue, type and administrator password, and then click yes. Though there is no username and password prompt box appearing so all i can do is click "no".
So I just got windows 7 running properly on my mac pro 8 core desktop (all drivers installed) but I am trying to connect to the internet and I can find my wifi and I have full bars but when I select the correct wifi it tries to connect but doesn't give me the option to enter a password. I don't know how to make the os give me the option to enter the password.
I have forgotten my admin password. I was wondering if there was any possible way to delete or change my password from the Guest account? It's quite important that i get back to my admin account.
It has been a month now since installing Windows 7. Everything appears to be fine except this "access denied" errors on some of the files for certain users. I finally managed to turn on the hidden "administrator" feature in command prompt to unlock some. Aside from the design of users potentially "locking" themselves out of their own documents ( because of they are not logged in as an Admin, even though they have all admin privileges. I was going around in circles giving each other permission when the real admin was never enabled.
Now its effecting the programs and installation. For example, if Daddy logs on and try to install a program that requires a command prompt, I can't because I did not log in as an Admin. Now we have 3 separate users, each with their own documents, programs, and desktop settings.I want to delete all users and combine all the docs, programs, etc. Into one easy access and one user. No passwords, nothing. So as soon the computer boots up windows, it should ready to go, everything.
I'm the only person using my computer (usually). I have the secret Administrator account turned on and password protected. And my day-to-day account is a Standard account. Do I really need to password protect my standard account? What are the reasons to?
I have a file sharing server and about 10 client computers that access files on this server.
What i would like to have is when each client computer wants to access any of the files on the server that they are prompted with a usernamepassword dialog.
I do not want to create each user on server if i dont have to. The server is Windows 7 Pro 64Bit 6 of the client computer are Windows 7 Pro 64Bit 4 of the client computers are XP Pro
This folder I have on my desktop is filled with pictures of xp and xp fails. (project I was doing). It has no value and is completely usless but when I delete it it says I need permission from turbow5 to delete this. But I am turbow5. I am the admin and the only user on this comp. So I look into the permission thing and system, turbow5, and admin all have full permission of this file. Why can't I delete this folder?
im here on my laptop as i was doing some permision changes on my desktop. and i was deleting the account that seemt strange. well i guess i deleted my own account. im the owner of the pc by the way the only person that uses that pc. then i did a restart tried to log on onto my account with the respective password and its telling me "Can't logon because the logon method you are using is not allowed on this computer..."
