View 10 RepliesI'm using Windows 7 Pro. I have remove the login pw in my user account now I do not need to do the login and able to use the computer right away. But I found I am using the computer as a user not administrator. How can I skip the login screen and go straight into desktop as administrator.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Win Xp Media Center I always ran my computer as the 'admin' because for some reason certain programs wouldn't run or install as a regular user. In my Windows 7 machine I'm wondering if it's normal or advisable to create a normal user account for myself and always use that or run as admin all the time?
Does Windows 7 have the same problem I experienced in XP, or was I doing something wrong in Xp anyways and should've used a regular user account?
When I am on a limited user and I try to set permissions of its folders I need to provide the admin password to proceed, why?
Now the problem with User Account Control. When I click on advanced sharing, or try to do any activity that requires admin priviliges, User Account Control window pops up, you know, that window asks for the password and it somehow blocks the desktop and anything else so I cant take a picture of it.
Anyway after I provide the admin's password, the pop up closes but the process hangs/freezes does not respond for eternity.
If it is an app, it does not run. If it is a folder, the explorer thread(is it thread?) related to that folder is not responding for eternity and it is stuck, hangs. however you want to call it.
IT setting. Multiple departments with unique network printers but a common image. Creating scripts have been considered, but become impractical for each unique department in the domain.While on the local admin account can I install printers to other accounts on the computer?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Java installed (I need it because I use OpenOffice). Some people are annoyed with Java's auto updates and want to disable them. I have a different problem: I want Java to automatically download and install updates. But I want it to SHUT UP about it and not bother me. I don't need it to pop up and tell me that there's an update available, I don't need to click "Ok" and "Next" etc. In the words of Nike, just do it! I've looked through all the Java update settings and there is no option to automatically update silently in the background without bothering me.
Does anyone know how to configure Java to automatically and silently update itself in the background without bothering me? The way all my other pieces of software do?

When joining a set of laptops to the domain it prompts for domain admin credentials and appears to be successful, but gives an error of 'Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to " " failed. The name will remain domain.local The error was: The RPC Server is unavailable.
When attempting to add Domain Users to the local administrators group: Windows cannot process the object with the name "domain users" because of the following error: The RPC server is unavailable.
This happens even when wired on the network. I have tried uncommenting the localhost line in HOSTS, and manually adding the DNS server (which is also the DC).
I have a multi-users Windows 7 (64bits) system, with one Administrator priviledge accounts, the others being non-admin. Disk is partition with system on C and data on D and E.
All users can access to D and E.
How to enforce security properties so that delete file or folder on D or E must prompt for admin password? I see that I can totally prevent DELETE, but I just want to permit delete, when user successfully entered admin pwd on prompt.
If I right-click on D: Then properties and view security tab, I see 4 groups:
* Authentified users
* System
* the admin account
* users (the admin account as user)
I have 2 Users on my Windows 7 Home Basic PC.User A who has Administrator Rights and a password and,User B who has Ordinary Rights with no password.Is there a way that with I boot my PC, User B gets logged in to his Desktop without having to click the user?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy home pc (Windows 7 Ultimate) is part of my business domain, but I also have local user accounts for my wife and kids.
At the login screen there is a icon for the last user that logged in and another labeled "Other Users" for the rest of the users, so that if a different user needs to login they have to select "Other Users" then enter the DOMAIN/USERID and password to logon.
Is there a way to have it show all three users with their icons at the login screen so they can just click their icon and enter their password (all have passwords) to logon. Getting them to enter the DOMAIN/USERID correctly everytime is a challenge since the slash has to go the correct way and the domain name is somewhat long.
As I didnt want any User specific Data on my System Drive, after installing Windows 7 back then I was looking to move the Users Folder to a different Drive.I thought symlinks would be perfect for the task and so I copied C:Users over to E:Users, deleted C:Users and made C:Users a Junction to E:Users.Everything seemed to be working perfectly until today when I was reverting the System to a Restore Point created a few hours ago.Now after the reboot everything seems to be gone and Hell is open... When I tried to login with my Account I use for daily Operation it said "Preparing Desktop" at which Point I knew something terrible happened. As I had already guessed I had an empty default Desktop and all my Stuff, Settings and so on was not there. Additionally a Popup appeared notifing me that I was using a temporary Profile.So I tried to login using the built in Administrator Account, but that too was a temporary Account as the Balloon Tip showed me. I quickly checked E:Users and everything is still there its just not getting loaded for some weird reason.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm in a bit of a dilemma, and I can't necessarily work around this. On most of my systems, I have two users. One of them is the user, and the other is anadministrative account that I never login to unless I absolutely have to. I've also done the same on some PC's I've worked on for friends, etc. So yes, each UAC prompt asks me for a password of my administrator account. And that doesn't bother me .Now, here's the thing where I'm going. I want to be able to start up a system and not see the administrative account. At all. Meaning, I'm logging into my user.But, I don't want to login automatically. I'm trying to avoid that heavily as I got others in my household who absolutely love to use my computers.Basically, I want to see the welcome screen and just see my username so I can login, and have a 'switch users' option. That would be useful! I've already checked through the policy editors to see what I can do, but perhaps I'm not seeing the correct options?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI work in and oversee the computer network of a small architecture office. We only have 6 or 7 users right now, and about 12-14 active machines throughout the office. All machines connect through our office domain to our server box running Windows Server 2003 x86. Most production machines are now running Windows 7 x64, but there are a few XP x86 machines still left in the office. Everyone logs onto their machine using their username and password, which is set up in Active Directory Users and Computers on the server. Each username has a login script associated with it that maps various shared folders on the server as network drives on the workstations.
Right now, each user's workstation has that username set up as an Administrator account on that machine. I know that's not recommended, but it's been okay so far. However as time passes, I'm getting more and more concerned about network and computer security.
I'd like to know if there's a way to set up user accounts such that it won't ask for an Admin user name and password every time a program needs an update, but also doesn't allow them full access like Admins have, i.e. deleting software and such.
The issue is that I don't want to have to run around and enter an admin user name and password on the Windows 7 machines every time some software update appears or the user needs to install some software on a machine. We're a small office and don't rely on any actual IT department. I have many other responsibilities in the architecture field (working drawing production, project management, etc) and don't have time to always do that, especially when I'm out of the office on a jobsite, etc.
When my partner set up my brand new PC he set up an account in my name, so there are now two accounts on the machine, Admin and Mine. I can use my account for most daily things, but I need to be the Administrator because I don't have rights to do some stuff. Problem is he's forgot the Admin password .... so I can't log in as the Admin. What can I do? How do I change this password?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my OS a few months ago to 64 bit with new components etc. I kept all of the old system files and folders JUST for if it went wrong, now ive sorted them all out, the old system files, and adobe is locked for some reason? I keep trying to change all of the administration but it just jumps straight back to before, but hey, im in no hurry to change it, its only 15gb of useless copies! Its just niggling at me and i would like to get it sorted if theres any other way? ie changing the admin account so i can change - everything-, as I'm not exactly new with computers, been studying them for years.
- Also, a little off topic if anyones got enough time to add some wisdom to the thread, ive just bought a super duper cooler for my CPU as when i run on normal settings on a game I play, LotrO, the manufacturers fan goes mad, and it really gets my goat making a loud whirring sound, would I be able to run on High-Ultra with a duel core amd athlon 2? with that fan I have "Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 CPU Cooler" it wouldnt make any sound as its made for being quiet and cool very well. i suppose the only sign of the strain is artifacts in-game?
I recently was given a laptop to fix up by my brother in law that seems to be infected with a nasty troublesome Trojan.Anyways I cannot login to his username with the password he has provided me with and he has some documents that he would like me to backup if possible.o, I was wondering if their is a way to get into the hidden admin account within the login screen, I hate how Microsoft disabled the feature of hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del to get into the admin account. So I was just wondering if their was another way to get in, I've already tried Safe Mode and the hidden Admin account doesn't pop up.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an odd problem I've not been able to fix. I have a laptop from a friend of a friend, so I don't know much of the history of it.Essentially, when started normally the laptop hits the windows 7 welcome screen, but instead of displaying a list of users, it flashes again and again. The cursor shows the busy circle next to it for a split second, then the screen goes black, then the screen comes back with the busy cursor.The system starts normally in safe mode.I've tried to disable all of the services and startup items with MSConfig, but that's made no difference. I've also run sfc /scannow which on it's first pass detected and fixed an item, but on subsequent passes sees no problems.After that was a bust I decided to try to revert to a system restore point. There are several the choose from, but once selected the restore doesn't actually take place. The system simply shuts down after preparing to restore, and when restarted in safe mode states that it was unable to start the shadow copy service (which to the best of my understanding can't be started in safe mode)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 2 accounts set in my windows 7 PC- admin & standard. Is it possible to prevent safe mode login for the standard a/c? I mean when the standard user will try to enter in safe mode, he/she will be denied access (may be force shutdown or a prompt to enter some password set by me). If there is any 3rd party tool to do so, you can suggest me that as well.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhy does windows 7 (and maybe other windows versions) setup/install updates before shutting down the computer and sometimes even after booting & before login? On other OSes like Ubuntu the updates are installed when doing the update so when you shutdown the computer it just shuts down, so you don't have to wait for a random amount of extra time, which could even be a problem if you need the shutdown/restart to happen asap.

Would disabling UAC stop windows updates from functioning?
I downloaded Adobe Photoshop (Portable) and installed it. Then I wanted to change the location where it was saved. I tried to move it but it couldnt be moved so I copied and pasted it into a new location. I know I should uninstall but since I just wanted 1 copy, I deleted one. After that, most of the other Adobe programs were affected. When I opened some, they would say that some files are missing or my license has expired. Some started asking for serial number or to register.When I opened Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 it said Photoshop Elements Help was missing and there were missing icons on the right side. I uninstalled and reinstalled the programs. I downloaded some but they cant be installed. It always says some files are missing.
