PC Freezes Randomly Under Normal Usage - Ctrl Alt Del Doesn't Work
Jun 28, 2011
My PC since a week has started freezing randomly one or twice a day. All the windows stay open, the mouse does not move,. Even Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not work; CAPS Lock light does not get toggled. Sometimes it happens after just 10 mins of startup, sometimes after a few hours. It has always happened under normal usage, ie. no games/Photoshop/3ds Max running. Just Firefox running or sometimes even while no app running. Once it happened while I was scanning a picture, and the scanning head (the light-tube) of the scanner also froze midway.
Event log from last startup to freeze :
Code: Critical 29/6/2011 8:57:59 AM
Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power 41 (63)
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I ran memtest86 for 3 passes (1 hour +) and it showed 0 errors. My installation is 1 year old. I've ran disk cleanup to clear temp files and stuff, and I've got 20 out of 90 GB free in my C: Drive (Win 7 partition) and 200 out of ~850GB on my secondary partition. The last program I had installed is LogMeIn Hamachi which I have uninstalled, but the PC froze once again after the uninstallation! I also got my PC case internals and especially the CPU heatsink fan (without detaching the fan/heatsink) cleaned.. but I'm not getting any CPU overtemp error anyways.
My specs:
CPU: i7 920
Kingston 4 GB DDR3 @ 667 Mhz
Zotac Nvidia 9800GTX +
Seagate SATA 1 TB HD
Win 7 x64 Ultimate Edition
Recently, my computer has been randomly freezing after long hours of usage.trl+Alt+Del and other keyboards and mouse controls do not work when it happens.Previously, avast have detected a rootkit infection and have it removedtrangely, this erractic behavior still continues. My scan with Malwarebytes and Avast right now shows no threats.
I encounter a problem recently. My keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+[left/right] arrow key doesn't work in any of my editors like: Microsoft word 2007; Microsoft wordpad; Open office writer and Abiword - I use this key combination for move between words in my word processors. Because of this problem is general in all of my editors I think this is not a software specific issue and belongs to my Win 7.
this computer is working away for surveillance purposes. It has been crashing since installation, maybe once every two days. The computer does not restart neither shuts down. It justs freezes, and happened once when I was there. I tried to turn on the display but it acted like nothing was connected, so I could not see if there was a BSOD.I opened the Event Viewer and the last event I can see (for example this very last time, the computer froze at 04:29 AM), under "Error" category, it displays: The device, DeviceHarddisk0DR0 has a bad block. The error appears 3158 times, from 01:12 AM to the time of the crash.Do I have to replace the HDD or would it be something else? [code]
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium with 4GBs of Ram and an i7 processor. When I start my laptop up, it uses about 1.5 - 1.7 GBs of Ram. Is this normal? And atm I'm running 106 processes (screenshots below) and I'm unsure which ones I can kill. I only know about Nettalk, Firefox, Thunderbird, Dropbox, sparta.exe and screen.exe.
This is the second BSOD I get this week, but isn't the same error code, the other one was 0x000000D1.My specs:Windows 7 Professional x86 (32-bit) retail
- the original installed OS on the system?NO, it's a clonic PC so it came without any OS into it.
- What is the age of system (hardware)?4 years old
When I render with C4D, is it normal for my cpu to go up to 100% usage? I'm worried cause my fan is kind of making noise that it doesnt usually do.I HAVE THE G75VW-BBK5?
My issue is that my fan runs very loudly and does not turn off during idle/slow periods. I downloaded the speedfan program and this is how it looks currently. [URL]I don't think the difference between idle and running Chrome + Steam in the background would be enough to matter, so i'm not in a completely idle mode now. This is essentially my constant setup.I'm rather inept when it comes to these things so i'm really not sure if this is even a problem or not. I know that cpu fans are always running, but i can't imagine 2800-2900 rpm being an idle speed. My temperatures are stable(as far as i know) and they only get to about 45% during heavier cpu usage. I cleaned out the dust in the system, but i think i may have missed the heatsink or whatever itself.I have also heard that doing a disk cleanup and defragmentation can solve the issue of a fan running constantly, however, doing that did not seem to help.
I am having some problems with my ctrl key. I cant ctrl copy or paste, whenever I try to ctrl copy a c appears and when I try ctrl+v a v just appears, as if I was just pressing the letter, it seems its stuck by hardware or something coz in the keyboard its fine.
I've owned my custom computer for about 3 years now, done various upgrades on it. But now I don't understand what's happening. When I play Games or doing normal browsing, my computer will hang and everything will freeze for about a minute or two. It's more when I play Video games than when I surf the internet. It then returns to normal and I can do whatever for the next 10-15 minutes, and then it does it again. I tryed to get past it but it starts to do it more frequently.
As of yesterday morning this computer I am typing from has started crashing to BSOD at (what seems to be) random at intervals from 2 minutes to 2 hours.
I suddenly get this BSOD on my laptop this morning . It was fine for 4 months . Then my little brother plays some games ( Torchlight 2 , some mini games from Popcap ) The laptop gets BSOD .
I have a Saitek Eclipse keyboard (windows recognizes the keyboard and correct drivers load)The problem i have is every keyboard shortcut, ctrl a, s, tab, ctrl alt delete, all seem to work except for ctrl+v. Very annoying and strange problem...I uninstalled the driver and restarted, and it worked 2-3 times then went back to doing nothing when i press ctrl v, but ctrl c, x still works.
I am using acer laptop, intel pentium processor,windows7 professional,my problem is windows is not starting normally and is running safemode.when entering normall mode it is displaying "welcome" after entering password "Please wait",it takes a long time to starting window and i'm waiting more than 24 hours but its not starting window normally.
I have Dell i15-2591 with windows 7. The problem that I have is that I can't restore it factory settings. I tried pressing F8, F10, Ctrl + F's buttons and it won't work.I installed currently my other copy of plain windows 7 on it so the laptop works. So, my question is how I can get to the recovery mode? I do't have any option in this windows to start recovery. When I press F8 button it's showing me the repair your computer mode but there is no option to restore to Dell settings, just options for the windows that I currently have.
I have compaq presario sr1630nx and I have an issue that started after I opened the case and used my compressor to blow the dust out of it its not the first time ive done this like 4 times to be exact. My machines issue starts when I turn it on the fans go on but the cpu fan runs the loudest and it displays nothing other attempts it turns on normal but still nothing on the display. After idk the twentieth attempt of turning on and off it finally boots up normally, but I cant do nothing major like go on the web to long because it freezes right away. i could listen to music but it will eventually freeze after fifteen minutes or the display will turn to an orange or blue screen. The pc does have some upgrades like a graphics card for two dvi inputs and power supply which were done about a year ago.
my pc has been acting weird lately, it has began randomly crashing frequently. I turn it on and after 3 or so minutes of random activity it just freezes or gives me a blue screen error. Sometimes while playing BF3, it freezes.[CODE]
Adding the pc to our domain seems to have caused the ctrl-alt-del key combination at login to no longer work. Other Windows 7 pc's on the domain work fine with the ctrl-alt-del key combo. It's not the keyboard and I can use the onscreen keyboard option to mouse click on the keys to bring up the login screen. Also when the screen saver turns on the ctrl-alt-del also fails to work. I have run several fix tries:
- Boot and F8 into repair computer...found no errors. - F8 into command screen and ran sfc /scannow and found no integrity violations. - Ran the win7 boot memory tester and it came back with no errors.
Short of wiping and reinstalling, which I don't have the time to do. I have tested the keyboard on another computer and it works fine.
I tried to do a clean start up and still freezes. I've tried to restore it to previous settings and still having problems. Sometimes it freezes when i'm logging on and if i make it past that then it usually freezes within the next 1-3 minutes.
Computer Processor - Intel i7-260 3.4 ghz Ram - 8GB 64 bit Windows 7
I really would like to avoid having to completely erasing my Hard Drive.
Two PCs here, one with Windows Business other with Ultimate have the same problem. They don't crash or completely stop, nor go slow along the day. They just give me several small halts during the entire operation.Everything is up to date, during stress test no problems are noticeable but (one PC is overclocked by 40%, other is stock).Full virus check, nothing found.
A relative is having a problem with their laptop. When I try to boot normally, I get to the login screen and it locks up and I can't move the mouse and select a user, it just freezes. When I boot in safe mode everything works properly and I'm able to login without any problems. So i was wondering if it could be a bad driver that is causing this?
When I try to start my laptop, windows 7 hangs after a few seconds and i can only move the mouse. Ctrl-alt-del doesn't do anything either. It runs fine in safe mode though.
I am using windows seven ultimate. I have accidentally choosen Display 2. In the screen resolution and now my laptop doesn't start in normal mode. Its like I have to connect to an external display like a laptop to view my Desktop. I can only access it using safe mode..
OK,I turn it on...lights flash on the key I see the big E symbol hear the normal beep and then It just stops...and a lil blinker in the top right corner of screen..SEEMS ONLY the F12 key works..no F8,10.....I tried a new monitor..same thing
I've been looking for a fix for 5 hours and no luck- System restarts as soon as it enters the splash screen, but I can enter into safe mode - SFC /SCANNOW Detects nothing.
Tried bootrec commands and did nothing.. . Tried chkdsk /f /r and still nothing. . . Tried start up repair like 30+ times and it didn't fix it and said no root cause.
I`ve got a weird problem that keeps happening. Without any errors or warningall of my Desktop Icons become frozen. I cannot activate any of them. If Ihave any windows open in the Taskbar or programmes running in the System trayI can left/right click on any of them and they all workfine(Programmes/Window Explorer/IE7 etc). I can access the Start menu andis the solution if it happens in Windows Vista but this
