Windows 7 Startup Repair Freezes For 10 Minutes Then Doesn't Fix PC?
Sep 19, 2011I have an Emachines E627 laptop. Last night I was doing some school work on my laptop, but then my laptop freezes, gets the blue screen of death and turns off. I then turned it back on, and the Window's screen pops up, quickly goes to startup repair and then it does the repair thing. After about 5 minutes into it, it freezes for about 10 min, then says: "Your computer will now turn off". So, it turns off, I turn in back on again, it goes to the windows start up screen, and does the same process over again

Jan 22, 2011Windows won't start. I get a a black screen saying some hardware or software has changed and the only options are to press enter to continue, or escape to exit. I tried booting my Win 7 64 bit recovery disc (aka system repair disc) but in the second screen where it tells you to select an operating system, it is blank! I attempted to add hard disk drivers but i couldn't figure out how. So i pressed next and got to the screen with various options. I selected "Startup Repair" but that won't work. It says that "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically".

Sep 21, 2012I've had an ongoing war with my PC for four days now. I have Windows 7 and it refuses to start up. Originally I tried starting up normal, it gave me two choices: system repair or start as normal. If I chose normal it would show the windows logo then reset. If I chose repair it would turn black for several minutes, then go to a blue screen for several minutes and wouldn't move past that. So i tried to boot from CD. I have the option of installing windows or repair. I chose repair, once again it goes to the blue screen and nothing happens (and I've left it on this blue screen a good 15 min mind you.) Finally I submitted and decided to just re-install windows. it goes to the starting setup... and sits there indefinably.

Jun 28, 2011My PC since a week has started freezing randomly one or twice a day. All the windows stay open, the mouse does not move,. Even Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not work; CAPS Lock light does not get toggled. Sometimes it happens after just 10 mins of startup, sometimes after a few hours. It has always happened under normal usage, ie. no games/Photoshop/3ds Max running. Just Firefox running or sometimes even while no app running. Once it happened while I was scanning a picture, and the scanning head (the light-tube) of the scanner also froze midway.

I ran memtest86 for 3 passes (1 hour +) and it showed 0 errors. My installation is 1 year old. I've ran disk cleanup to clear temp files and stuff, and I've got 20 out of 90 GB free in my C: Drive (Win 7 partition) and 200 out of ~850GB on my secondary partition. The last program I had installed is LogMeIn Hamachi which I have uninstalled, but the PC froze once again after the uninstallation! I also got my PC case internals and especially the CPU heatsink fan (without detaching the fan/heatsink) cleaned.. but I'm not getting any CPU overtemp error anyways.

May 15, 2011i have a hp pavilion dv3 laptop, 13.3", which runs on windows 7. it has an intel core i5 and 4 gb of ram with 500 gb of memory. it's very new - i only bought it about a month ago, and up until a few hours ago it was running fine. it has been very fast and responsive, and i was careful to not download a load of junk or anything that might slow it down. i used it this morning and it was fine, but since i turned it on this afternoon it has suddenly begun running slowly. when i turn it on i can enter my password and get into my user account, and everything loads fine, but when i try to do anything it will just freeze up and refuse to respond. i can't even right-click and refresh, or click on the taskbar. i just get that little blue spinning circle to infinity.the laptop is running okay in safe mode, which i am in right now. i'm trying to rack my brains to remember what i could have done to mess it up, but nothing comes to mind. last night i downloaded aim, but that didn't seem to have changed anything this morning. when i used the laptop before it started freezing, all i did was watch a few Internet videos and then turn it off again.
when i realised it was freezing, the first thing i did was to turn it off and restart in safe mode. i went to control panel and removed the password to my user account (irrationally, i was getting paranoid about being locked out), which i hope didn't confuse the poor laptop. i then restored it to an earlier date 2 days ago, but it still froze about three minutes after turning it on, and my password was still enabled. after that i went to start > run > msconfig and disabled all the startup items, but the laptop still continued to freeze upon startup. then i unplugged the battery and just ran off the power switch, but it's still freezing! then i started to despair and tried to run a registry cleanup, but i figured it just looked like a scam or a virus so i decided otherwise. i use avast! free antivirus, and i ran a scan, but that didn't find anything.unfortunately, i live in a very hot, dusty country. recently quite a lot of dust was getting into the room where i keep my laptop. i was worried that the laptop might have been getting dust inside it. but i have another older laptop which doesn't seem to be affected at all?i did make backup discs when i first got the laptop, but i only want to use them as a very last resort.
Laptop Freezes Upon Startup Unless In Safe Mode?
Feb 2, 2011My Toshiba laptop has been overheating lately. Looked online and saw that this is a common problem with Toshibas. As I currently live in Indonesia (from Tennessee originally) I dont know where to buy the spray cleaner things (yes, thats what I call them...lol i dont know the technical name or brand name.) So when it overheats I usually let it cool down for a bit then restart and just try and keep the bottom elevated so it can cool consistently.
Tonight it overheated and when I went to restart, it restarted normally until it got to the main screen. Things looked ok, but when I moved the mouse it moved for just a second and then everything froze. Not just the mouse, I tried hitting tab,etc to make things move but nothing would happen. Not even the trusty ctl-alt-del magic would happen. I restarted into safe mode and things are ok.

Jan 20, 2012Want to know if their is anyway to make my laptop startup w/o showing error when it doesnt properly shutdown.My keyboard shorted out,wiggled the ribbon & the connector came off the motherboard.I have no usb keyboards.So if i don't shut down properly,it shows the error message with options.Usually startup repair is highlighted by default.And since I have no keyboard to change the option,it starts that automatically after countdown & I can't cancel it.
It's very irritating.I just been using the on screen keyboard,I actually don't mind that.I know just shutting it down properly will fix this.But their is times where I lose power to laptop sometimes.Im not a noob,I normally leave my laptop plugged up w/o battery when I use it.Sometimes the plug comes out(dogs knock it out etc.).I know most laptops are supposed to stop sending a charge to batt once it's 100%.But I think it's bs & don't trust it.My preference & opinion
Samsung Laptop Freezes On Windows 7 Startup Screen
Nov 29, 2012I just picked up a used Samsung Series 3 Laptop and had an issue with the keyboard not working properly. While reinstalling some drivers the computer re-started itself and then proceeded to freeze on the "starting windows" screen. I tried to run the windows repair option, it boots into a green background which says'please wait'...well I waited and waited and nothing happened so I kept retrying it. Eventually I left this on for a half hour or so and it actually finally went into the windows repair option!
I chose to re install windows from the partition and thought everything was fine, it went through the downloading and installing of those files and restarted, froze on the 'Starting windows" screen. I left it there for 40 mins plus, thinking maybe it just needed time, the only thing it did was reset itself after 30 or so minutes and froze again. I tried going into Bios and resetting the defaults, I don't even care about the keyboard not working anymore, I just want to get the computer functioning again!

Feb 7, 2013Yesterday i accidentally dropped my laptop (HP Pavilion G6) and the battery fell out, it was plugged in at the time. It didnt fall from much of a height so i thought it would be ok. Upon starting it up again it came to a black screen asking if i wanted to use startup repair or start up normally. i swear i clicked on start up normally but it chose startup repair regardless. I left it overnight on the startup repair function as i heard it could take a long time for the program to run.

May 13, 2012I've had the freezing problem for months and so far no solution. My laptop runs fine when I play games, or browse, as long as i don't watch videos or listen to music, it doesn't mind if online or from my drive. Tried different software but no luck. I would think it's hardware, but i don't have this problem on linux.I ran windows 8 for a few days, didn't see the freezing there, but I don't like the OS.I think the problem is with the audio drivers or something, I tried old and new ones, but no result.I am running Windows 7 ultimate 32bit (64 doesn't help either). Nov 14, 2011Im having a really strange issue on my computer, im running windows 7 x64
basically what happens is im using my computer and suddenly it freezes. At first I thought the whole computer freezes but I soon realized this is not the case. My mouse pointer remains free and i can move it while everything else freezes. The strange part is that the actual computer doesnt freeze, I know this because of some things I observed in this "frozen" state:
- if i have itunes running before it freezes , I can still hit the pause/play buttons and switch songs after it freezes by clicking on them in the itunes interface. The selected song plays, and hitting the pause/play buttons do what they should, but nothing changes on the screen, it remains "frozen"
- if i double click a program from a desktop icon I get the loading mouse pointer as if the program is loading but the screen remains frozen so i dont actually see the program pop up.
so basically what I thought was my computer freezing is really just my screen freezing, the computer is running fine in the "background" as I can still do certain tasks, but the screen doesnt update to reflect these tasks.
What could be the problem? I had this same exact issue like half a year back and it one day just went away so I never bothered with it but here it is, its back and its really annoying because i have to hard restart my computer every time it happens.
Sometimes it happens out of nowhere, but I noticed it happens most of the time when my computer "shakes". Like when i get up and bang my knee on the desk, it freezes. or when i walk like an elephant in my room, it freezes.. etc. But sometimes it happens when im sitting perfectly still also so I dont even know if the shaking is really what causes it
