Just wondered if there's a way to open 2 ports via UPnP (specifically 113 and 3389) on startup, as my silly router refuses to give my computer the same IP every time. Yes, I know I could set my IP as static locally, however, I move my computer to various locations to "share" things?

I have 2 PC's setup with windows 7 x64 7600, one is my main PC and the other is my HTPC.
My HTPC is opening up UDP port 54838 via UPnP on startup, with out any applications starting.
This is a fresh install with no software other than iMon which is for the remote and VFD.
I have run tcpview and currport to see what is doing this, but they only show that the port is open and not what is associated with it. Have also run Sysinternals Autoruns, which lists everything that is running as a service or as a program, and I can see nothing suspicious !
I also have downloaded a free version of UPnP Explorer, but this only displays info on the physical router side of things.
I have searched the net and can find no mention of UDP port 54838 anywhere whatsoever, and have checked all of the port listing sites and none of them have any details of this port number, other than it is in the dynamic private range ... so it could be anything
I have tried to create a firewall rule to block it, but UPnP just creates another rule to enable it !
I know that the simple answer is to turn off UPnP, but I do actually use it for quite a few applications and devices so it would be a pain to do so as UPnP works really well with multiple devices that switch from wired to wireless mode and with dynamic IP's.
Has anyone got any ideas on a) what this port might be and b) if not, what else I can do to track it down ?
I don't want to get paranoid about it but I am security conscious enough to want to know what is making connections outside of my network with out my permission.
Through my uni halls, the internet provider provides their own tv service (basically identicle to freeview in the UK for chanel choice) this is iptv.
Now with Windows 7 I can't seem to play it, there trouble shooting doesn't include Windows 7 yet but both for xp and vista it talks about opening port 1234.
How do I do this?
I found a guide on here telling how to access ports but I didn't know where to go after that for a specific.
Any other ideas to try and make it work, if this one doesn't? It worked last year on xp 64bit.
I need to run FTP server with default port 21 and looking to run Counter Strike 1.6 server with port 27015 and im try all what you discuss in this forum about open ports in firewall and im disable the firewall and still cant access the FTP server and CS 1.6 server from out side.

I have CPU-Z, Hardware Monitor Pro and Resource Monitor shortcuts in the startup folder.
If I go to MSCONFIG I can see that the items are there to be started during startup.
What am I doing wrong that will not allow these programs to start up?
Every time I boot up the computer the screen resolution panel from the Control Panel is open on the desktop. I've checked in the startup folder and it's not on the list of things to open. I'm running multiple screens, 2 off a Nvidia GeForce 9600 and one off a EVGA USB connection. Have the latest drivers for both although I suspect the GeForce driver is pretty buggy.

Everything used to work fine, but I just noticed the UPnP on my desktop seems broken. I changed my motherboard and CPU about a month ago on it, so I think that may have something to do with it.
My laptop is able to detect all devices fine, but my desktop can only detect my laptop. My laptop can stream music from my desktop, but no other devices can. I have tried completely turning off the firewall, so it isn't that. My desktop can see my Xbox in the network map, but doesn't list it in "Network"
I have two computers that have win 7 x64 pro/ult. Recently, both computers, after typing in my poassword for login to windows, I get the desktop, icons, the hardware meter gadgets, then a windows pops up, near the top left corner, about a 1/6 of the screen size, and it immediately closes. It isn't there long enough for me to read anything in it, or even see if there is anything in it. Under start-up folder in the start menu, both computers do have logitech registration.
I click it, fill it out, and re start the computer. Still happens, and the start up folder still has logitech's product registration there. I complete it, restart the computer, and the window still shows up, then closes. Damn near instantly. Under start-up, the logitech thing is gone, so it is blank. But it still happens. Installing the webcam and using it for Logitech Vid, is the only thing I have changed recently on both computers. Also, windows 7 did have an update. I have no idea what to look for in regedit.
On startup, my browser has started automatically and attempted to open the page.[code]I have tried searching the internet to find out what this relates to but there seems to be nothing mentioned. The website itself doesn't seem to exist (I get the normal 'This webpage is not available' tab). I have checked all of my browser settings and cannot find anything that references it.I thought it may have been related to the Kana Reminder program that I have, but I have been using that for many months without this coming up before.Or somewhere else I can check? Earlier this week the media center extender was having trouble playing back video. After a restart of the computer the extender was no longer connected.When I try to add a new extender I get the message "Cannot add extender". Microsoft says to enable upnp and multicast. Check. Reflashed firmware to dd-wrt. No luck. Flash back to buffalo firmware. No luck. Try an old Linksys WRT54GL I have lying around. No Luck.The event logger has this error: "Media Center Extender Setup failed as the Extender was detected on the network but the UPnP search for the Extender failed (timed out after 20000ms)." Event ID: 538 Now I've done everything I could find about enabling network discovery, allowing anything to access media and such. Network and sharing is set pretty much wide open. I've also tried switching between home and work networks.With that said, I decided to check and see what updates have been installed. It turns out that an update was applied on the day I started having problems. It says it cannot be uninstalled. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?

Clicking on the Administrator gives me a desktop with an on-screen keyboard; the computer keyboard disabled, and a panel saying,"FAILED, The application has failed to start." Going back and clicking on the Standard User icon gets me running for the most part. Here's the BIG problem. Every time I try to install any program, the User Account Control box drops down and asks for the Administrator Password, plus the question,"Do you want to allow the following programs to make changes to your computer?" You click "Yes", but, since no one is in the Administrator office, your installation comes to a halt. This blocks "Install" and "Uninstall". I get lots of messages I need Adobe Flash Player. I've trie over and again to install it, going to Windows 32 bit, but can't uninstall my previous tries. It will always download, and that's all. I've tried to install my digital camera's CD, but can't.
I attempted to install a relatively old flight simulation (FMS) in my computer with Windows 7. I get an "Ecom port error" message. I understang this is a issue of incomatibility and that I should add a com port to my windows 7. I don't know excatly how to do it.

I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.
just upgraded a laptop from Vista to Windows 7, everything works fine except the computer now will only recognize 1 USB at a time, all the ports (3) work, the external hard drive, camera, printer or speakers all work however I can only use 1 device at a time, I just copied a file from my external to a thumb drive, I had to plug in the external, copy the file to my desktop, unplug the external and plug in the thumb drive to copy the file from the desktop, starting to annoy me, I can't print if I'm listening to music, can't listen to music and copy to the external etc etc etc
