I was installing the Verizon Internet Security Suite and I think I have a virus. A tech from Mcafee came on and "helped" by putting my computer into endless Safe mode. When I go to config.sys there is no listing under the boot window. I did a system restore and still nothing.I originally wanted to install this software because I found System Fix on my computer. I followed the instructions from bleepingcomputer.com to remove them.
I have a laptop with broken lcd. So im using it now as desktop, connecting it to an external lcd monitor.Last night I suspected a worm and tried to boot up in safe mode by pressing F8 but couldn't make it work because windows only activate the external monitor by the time it has finished loading drivers. The result was it keeps booting into normal mode. So, I remembered there's another way to boot into safe mode by accessing boot options in msconfig...Now I'm stuck with safemode and cannot do anything because safemode doesnt enable external monitor. I know for sure that I could enter password and get into safemode but I can't tell what should I press or click to access to that msconfig windows again to return boot options to normal state.
My OS is Windows 7 32 bits. I checked base video in boot option in msconfig and also checked make all boot settings permanent. So my window always boots with low resolution mode. Therefore I rechecked base video, checked all boot settings permanent, applied, ok and then restarted the windows. OK. Windows is starting, that's ok yet. My screen resolution is normal. And then My startup programs started, after a few seconds, My screen resolution changed to low immediately. I think I can't disable base video mode in msconfig.
When using Remote assistance in windows 7 it shows a list(albeit a small one) of past addresses(ip or computername) that you have logged into. Problem is it is numeric/alphabetic order. Is there a registry setting I can change so it will show me this History in chronological order?
I have an ASUS notebook running windows7 and 4g memory. I changed the msconfig boot.ini /MAXMEM from its default (an uncheked box, but I presume 4096) to 256 while trying to get a program to load. Saved and rebooted, now all I get is a BSOD with a stop error. since I cant get back into windows , would anyone know how to change this parameter back to its default? restore points dont work, automatic repairs dont work either.
I am trying to connect to the Internet through my computer, however I cannot display any web pages.I have full connection to wifi, but it states this is "local only". When I diagnose the problem, I am told the domain server name is unavailble. I have tried to update this manually, but this has not worked. (I am also unable to "ping" information to any location in dos).I am running windows vista and ie8. I quest mcafee antivirus.
I have startup recovery virus/malware on my windows 7 machine. Can't access safe mode, can only get to startup recovery and command prompt. Tried a Windows repair disk. My windows install is saved on the computer...no disk, damn toshiba. Is there a way to remove this from the command prompt and boot cleanly into windows 7 so I can run malware bytes and av?
For some reason I have lost the listing in my start menu under the heading "programs." I click on programs to find a program and all I get is the word "back" in the field with no programs listed in the above location. I had been able to do so in the past. What has happen?
Running windows 7 and attempted to change startup through msconfig and received an access denied you are not a security admin message , but I am a security admin.
I just did a fresh install of windows 7 64bit and have a dual wintv t500 digital tuner card installed.Wmc is working fine apart from not displaying the channel listings (epg) The names of the channels are there but It just says "no data available" on every channel listing..Yet when i r click on the more info button, all the program guides/listings show up in that section But when i go back to the main guide screen there missing.
If I search in "c:users" for *.xls I get 2 files listed - both are in deep subfolders.142.xls in "c:userspaulappdataoaming emp emp emp emp emp emp emp" If I search in "c:userspaul" for *.xls I get 100+ files listed, eg:list.xls in "c:userspaulackupICT2010" Which leads me to think that the search is not working correctly - a file found in "c:userspaulackupICT2010" must also be in "c:users".Or am I missing something?
Have copied a Folder from another PC that has a program in it to the Desktop of a new PC running Windows 7. Program happens to be Cliptrak, but that's probably not too important as this is more of a general question.
Now that I have the Program Folder on the Desktop, how do I get it in the All Programs listing ?
I tried dragging it to the Start Button, and I also tried opening Computer and dragging it to the C: drive icon shown there. No luck either way. What is the proper procedure for doing this?
I recently took advantage of the 30-day trial for Time Warner Mobile and installed their USB device and software. (They use the same WiMax network as Sprint and Clearwire.) After deciding I didn't want it, I uninstalled the software. However, when you click on the network icon in the bottom right hand corner that lists the wireless networks in the area you can access, it still has "Time Warner Mobile 3G" listed at the very top under Dial-up and VPNs. Can anyone tell me how I can get rid of that listing since I no longer have the device or the software?.
I just reformatted my HD and installed Windows 7-64 Ultimate again. Since I have been using Windows 7, I know most of the tweaks, but dont recall how I fixed this one. When in Windows Explorer, under Computer, I see all of my hard drives, but also see a drive for System Reserved. What tweak do I need so that I dont see the system reserved?
I have a C: drive and an E: drive on a Windows 7 X64 Media Center PC. Both have a directory called "Movies" ... when I start Windows Media Center and go to "Videos" I have a C:Movies AND an E:Movies.
Is it possible to merge both these directories into a single directory in Windows Media Center?
The C drive is 95% full so I can't copy the movies from the E: drive onto C: and the E: drive is 95% empty... so over time I'll add more movies to my collection (on the E: drive) and would really like to have ALL the movies from both C:Movies and E:Movie listed in a single directory and arranged alphabetically....
Ps. I've already tried adding both directories to the windows library 'Movies' directory but you can't access the 'Movie' library from within the Media Center!

The same happens in itunes.I have another pc with XP as the OS and the cd will rip ok on that version of media player

Not sure if this is the correct place for this but...this morning I noticed an exclamation in my taskbar that services were not running. I looked for services.msc in the search in the start button, but nothing came up. I also typed in MSConfig in the search in the start button search, and again, nothing came up. I also cannot find anything that resembles "administrative tools" anywhere, The exclamation point has since disappeared and in the taskmanager, it appears to be working, but...why am I not seeing these items in my start button? Exactly what does services.msc do? I'm running the 64-bit Windows 7.
