View 3 RepliesNot sure if this is the correct place for this but...this morning I noticed an exclamation in my taskbar that services were not running. I looked for services.msc in the search in the start button, but nothing came up. I also typed in MSConfig in the search in the start button search, and again, nothing came up. I also cannot find anything that resembles "administrative tools" anywhere, The exclamation point has since disappeared and in the taskmanager, it appears to be working, but...why am I not seeing these items in my start button? Exactly what does services.msc do? I'm running the 64-bit Windows 7.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI cannot boot into Windows because it says that the file /boot/BCD is missing with an error code of 0x0000007. If I run Repair from my installation disk and in System Recovery Options, it says that it has detected problems and asks if I want to repair it. The items it wants to repair are: " The following startup option will be repaired:Name: {bootmgr}Identifier: {9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795}
The following startup options will be added:
Name: Windows 7 Ultimate (recovered)
Path: Windows

Name: Windows Recovery Environment (recovered)
Path: Recovery9426aa67-30ff-11e0-a348-506313b5e718Winre.wim
Windows Device: Partition=C: (476938MB)
A copy of the current boot configuration data will be saved as C:BootBCD.Backup.0002"If I click yes, it says that it cannot save the current settings for the BCD and refuses to continue. When I choose Startup Repair, it attempts to fix the problem but fails.
The problem details are:
Root cause found:
No OS files found on disk.
Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Failed. Error code: 0x3bc3
I think that this is because Startup Repair is trying to fix the thumbdrive that I keep my Windows 7 install files in. I am overseas now and as my computer does not have an internal optical disk drive and my external drive is back home, thus using my thumbdrive is the only way to access the repair console.
I tried running a few commands, namely:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd
Fixmbr and fixboot work, but when I run RebuildBCD, it detects C:Windows as having a Windows installation, but if I type Y(yes) or A(all), it says that the requested system device cannot be found.
I was installing the Verizon Internet Security Suite and I think I have a virus. A tech from Mcafee came on and "helped" by putting my computer into endless Safe mode. When I go to config.sys there is no listing under the boot window. I did a system restore and still nothing.I originally wanted to install this software because I found System Fix on my computer. I followed the instructions from bleepingcomputer.com to remove them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop with broken lcd. So im using it now as desktop, connecting it to an external lcd monitor.Last night I suspected a worm and tried to boot up in safe mode by pressing F8 but couldn't make it work because windows only activate the external monitor by the time it has finished loading drivers. The result was it keeps booting into normal mode. So, I remembered there's another way to boot into safe mode by accessing boot options in msconfig...Now I'm stuck with safemode and cannot do anything because safemode doesnt enable external monitor. I know for sure that I could enter password and get into safemode but I can't tell what should I press or click to access to that msconfig windows again to return boot options to normal state.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt's been like this ever since I uninstalled a theme and icon package (7CONIFIER) that had been giving me error messages on boot. Since then, I've deleted the IconCache.db, re/downloaded 7CONIFIER and IconPackager to use their restore functions. I've also tried pinning/unpinning to the taskbar, this works and the original icon is restored until I close it or right-click it where it just goes back to the blank white icon.

So my window always boots with low resolution mode. Therefore I rechecked base video, checked all boot settings permanent, applied, ok and then restarted the windows. OK. Windows is starting, that's ok yet. My screen resolution is normal. And then My startup programs started, after a few seconds, My screen resolution changed to low immediately. I think I can't disable base video mode in msconfig.
View 3 Replies View Relatednone of the programs will open except for internet explorer. All other applications give the sxstrace.exe error and won't open. I advised her to hit F8 and get into safe mode so I could try and help her further. She couldn't get that to work so I had her force safe mode through msconfig. That worked and got her into safe mode and she's still getting the sxs error and can't get anything to work for her. I advised her to go back into mconfig and uncheck the safe mode boot and wait til I come home and fix it. Now the problem is when she tries opening the msconfig, she gets an error on that saying it can't open the application with the error code 0xc000142 Now she's stuck in safe mode with no networking and the computer is basically useless. I need help getting her going if anyone has any suggestions. I'm 800 miles from home and won't be there until thanksgiving and i'm trying to help her over the phone so im kind of limited here. I was trying to get remote assist going for her but she couldn't install that either without the sxstrace.exe error.they're running windows 7, If i remember correctly it's the x64 version.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy pc didn't boot, so I used a SATA --> USB docking station to format my hard drive (NTFS). Then I took an old hard drive, and transfered all of it to my new one.
Now I get the BootMGR is missing error when I boot my pc.
Recently I have had a load of hardware issues which have caused me to replace my PSU and GPU. After doing so to more powerful units, I went to boot up again and got the error: "BOOTMGR is missing"
I have had this before when I remove my secondary HDD and just try and boot from my primary SSD, but after re-connecting the secondary HDD it would work again (telling me this BOOTMGR is on the HDD, even though the Windows files are on the SSD).
I don't know what to make of this as if I boot from the SSD alone nothing happens and it restarts, and if I connect the HDD and it boots then it goes into the System Recovery and after repairing/restoring still won't work. I think the BIOS settings are correct, with the SATA drives set to AHCI (as I'm 99% sure they were before).
My PC specs are:
Intel i7 980X
Intel DX58SO Motherboard
128GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD
2TB WD HDD (secondary)
Radeon 7850 2GB GFX
8GB DDR3 RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate
Bootmgr is missing and I've tried every way but reinstalling. I want to reinstall but when it says expanding files it stays on 0 for 30 mins then a error message comes up and I can't reinstall.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

Is there any way that I can put the image file onto my USB Flash Drive and boot from it with my Acer Aspire X1200 desktop computer?

View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday my system had a BSOD when i wasn't home and my wife just restarted the my PC. When i got home about 4 hours later i had another BSOD but did not have time to see what it was. Now my system wont boot into windows. Trying to use start-up repair does nothing since it tells me that the error is that the registry is corrupt but it can't fix it. something like rollback registry failed corrupt registry. So i goggled the issue and tried everything that i could find from the windows 7 forums. used command prompt to search for my drive but i can't find it (windows is in C: drive but it doesn't show up only my external HDD and CD drive shows up. Tried using windows 7 installation CD to repair but it can't save the changes because there is no hard drive with windows operating system installed. Checked my bios yesterday and my internal hdd was still showing up in bios but it was like the 3rd in line to be used for booting. tried restoring from a system image and it wont let me because windows can't find a windows operating system to restore. i unplugged all my cables except for my HDD and tried booting it only to go back into repair start-up screen but i can't do anything there also. Tried doing sfc/scan now but it says a repair is in process and that i need to repair and reset to use that command, same goes for all other commands like bootmgr and so on. My brother in-law says that it may be because i have bad drivers so i updated them with a usb using windows installation load drivers but nothing happens then he said that back in the past there were issues with 6gb sata cables and certain HDD so i pulled out an old 3gbs sata cable and still can't boot. changed ports nothing happens can't even boot to safe mode to scan the drive. umm... can't do a fresh install because windows doesn't see the drive so now.when i turn on my pc my internal HDD is not being shown in the bios could it be that my HDD was dying and now is dead? View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer recently began to give me bsod and would not detect external devices, i.e. external hard drives, wireless adapters, and other usb devices. The issue windows gave me as the cause was that these devices did not have digital signatures. After online research and a trip to the geek squad, I determined that all of my hardware was in perfect working order. I tried to remove and re-install my copy of windows 7 64 bit ultimate but found that my disk was, despite being unscathed, unreadable and unusable.
I found several articles about creating a bootable USB drive with an ISO of the disk. I have the ISO on my laptop and have been trying to get my USB to operate on the desktop, which due to blue screens and automatic restarts gave me no recourse but to wipe it completely. As I stand now I have partitioned the USB drive as fat32 after doing a cmd prompt cleaning and have loaded the iso on using several different programs including the official Microsoft USB creator. All but one have produced the same error saying "error loading operating system" when booting from just the USB. The only program to produce a different result was YUMI which loaded a program that launches on start up and gives me the option to use the Windows 7 ISO but then produces another error saying "Error 27: Unrecognized Command"
Have I missed something in the formatting process or does the fact that the Windows USB creator re formats the USB as NTFS before every ISO upload mean that I cannot load my copy of Windows 7 this way?
Yesterday my laptop froze, i could do nothing. I reset the laptop, and upon restart it took long for everything to load, and then froze again, then i tried system restore in safe mode but just got blanc screens, also managed to open system restore on normal login but aslo still blanc screen, then i opened task manager, complete blanc screen everywhere, msconfig the same. As soon as i open browser the pc freezes, it has also given me bkue screen from time to time
