I am having an issue with my VPN. When I am connected on the network at work I can access the shared drive not problem. At home though, when I am connected to the VPN, it will not display this folder. Everything comes up like it loaded but just no folders.
I am however able to access other shared drives.
I was trying to display Hidden Folders/files to access an appdata folder under C:Usersusernameappdata. (it's to fix an issue with the game Dead Space 2) Anyway, I opened My Computer, then C drive, then Users. In here, I right clicked on empty space and opened properties. I checked 'Hidden' and apply. Said it needed administrator rights, I accepted. Then most desktop items disappeared, most files from my documents disappeared and after reboot, The ATI catalyst control centre is popping up an error message saying 'failed to start'.I realised I chose to hide all the files within that folder instead of showing hidden files/folders..I went to folder options and chose Show Hidden file and I can see them again but they have that see through look to them. ATI catalyst still won't start on reboot. I tried system restore to yesterday but still exact same.When I go to User Properties on the C drive again, it shows the files as Read Only and Hidden is unchecked.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a program that uses it's own library. The path to this library can't be changed, and it's inside the "Program Files" folder. And the software itself has to be installed inside "Program Files" too, otherwise it won't work correctly (it's a new release and still a bit buggy).Now, when I add something to this library, it's supposed to be present in the library folder. BUT Win 7 doesn't show me any files that have been created by programs inside the "Program Files" folder. The folder where the new library is supposed to be is empty. But the library is there inside the program, so it has to be somewhere.Now, how am I supposed to backup those files if I can't access them?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have my tower pc on constant all day- to record a streaming IP Camera from my work.Initially, I saved these files into my docutments- which they would save as .avi files, and after every several days I would delete them as they would take up ALOT of space on my pc.My pc is 250GB in size, and usually it would be about 80GB full before I had the IP Camera. Just recently, I noticed all of the IP Camera avi files seemed to have disappeared from my documents if I went directly to the folder... I could still see them in documents when I was choosing a location to save the recordings.Upon right-clicking the avi files in the latter, the files would be of no size and wouldn't play.Now my computer is 210GB full in the matter of a week.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a new PC with Windows 7 installed and have run into this issue twice, both times with a particular folder - let's call it "UsefulDocuments2" (the actual folder name DOES have a 2 at the end, but there is no folder called "UsefulDocuments").
Sometimes, when I try to view the folder contents using Explorer or through Windows Live Mail (in an attempt to include a file in the folder as an attachment), I can't view the contents of the folder. When I access the folder, it has the proper path listed in the address bar of the window and displays the number of items (171) in the lower left corner. However, the status bar just says "Searching for items..." except I can occasionally see it flicker to say "171 items."
While it is "Searching for items..." (which is 99.9% of the time), it doesn't display any of the contents of the folder. The scrollbar on the side of the window constantly flickers - it's recognizing that there are 171 items in the folder and that the scrollbar is necessary, but then keeps re-searching the folder contents, I guess.
Weirdly, if I change the folder name to, say, "UsefulDocuments" it works fine (at least right now). If I then change it back to "UsefulDocuments2" it reverts to its old behavior. Also, if I open a file in it in Word (2010), I can view and access the contents of the folder without any problem at all.
Obviously, I can just change the folder name, but don't really want to for organizational reasons, and also am just curious as to what's going on and how to fix it should it happen to other folders, etc.
I got one of those malware programs through searching for pics of Air Jordans on google. All of a sudden, something was installing itself on my computer and then telling me my hard drive had crashed, and now I needed to buy their software to fix it. I cut off the computer and rebooted, trying to get into safe-mode to do a restore. Couldn't get into safe mode, windows would just load, so I cut it off and then the computer said Windows didn't load, so I chose to repair. Note, it didn't load because I cut it off manually.
The thing is, the mp3s are still there. Opening Winamp's start menu, it shows recently played songs, and when I click on one, it plays. So I went to my folder (C:/mp3s) and right clicked on it, and chose "enqueue in winamp" and all the songs loaded into winamp, even though the folder continues to show that it's empty. It's worth noting that when I right-click on the mp3 folder and choose properties, it shows that the folder is over 13 gigs and has over 2900 songs. I just can't directly access them, but I can play them in winamp
I can't open a specific folder to display the content with Explorer.I'm running Windows 7 7601.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333 Home Premium. The folder is on a secondary HDD where I also have the system folders Libraries and Download. All the system and program files are on my primary SSD C: drive.What doesn't work:With my regular account, on that specific folder, I can't display the content via Explorer. I can't either get it when I try to open it from inside applications such as Notepad++, PotPlayer, Media Player Classic, VirtualDub. What works:If I enter the name of a file in the File name field of the Open command of the application, the file will open normally.When I point to that folder with the Windows command line console, and use the DIR command, it will display the complete list of files.Finally, when I look at the folder from the Admin account or from a Guest account, Explorer will display the content.instantaneously.
Things I did:I have checked Show hidden files in Folder Options.I did a Check Disk, which didn't find any error.I also ran: ATTRIB -s -h mbrp /s /d (Where mbrp contains the directory causing problem) hoping that somehow, some System Attributes could be removed.FWIW, it seems this happened as I was trying to run an Avisynth64 script with new installation of MPC-HC64.A this point, I am out of ideas. I know that switching to a new regular user account would solve the problem, but I see that as a last resort.
When I go to C:/users/my name/My Documents and select it, the right panel displays the files on top and the folders below. When I go to Libraries/Documents/My Documents and select it, the right panel displays the folders above the files. Most of my folders display the sub-folders above the files. How can I make all selected folders display the sub-folders above the files? None of the usual SORT routines change this display mode.

The network shows as connected and I can ping and tracert websites and IP's succesfully, but Firefox, IE, Windows Live Messenger and any other application cannot get connectivity. I have tried starting in Safe mode with networking and still have the same problem.
I have reset and bypassed my router and tried a direct connection to modem after a reset and still the same issue. I can connect no problems with another computer on this network and right now I am able to access the internet using Windows XP Mode in Windows Virtual PC. Any suggestions?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been working with RW2 files on this PC without problems for 6 months and all was normal last night when I shut down as normal. This morning I switched on to continue my work and the window with RW2 files showed just blank icons. I clicked on one and got the message "unable to open this file type, no supporting program" or similar, usually it opens a preview window at the side and will open in Windows photo viewer with a double click, but now nothing. JPG files still display and work fine and all the RW2 files open normally in lightroom 3.6 when I open that. I rebooted but the problem persists. I then looked at system restore and there were no restore points for this month and it gave a list of 5 programs it would erase, which I had updated/installed a few days earlier so I decided to look for another way first (I have very bad internet so do not want to have to download those again). Everything has worked fine with those updates for several days so I suspect it has nothing to do with them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to save a file, the save dialog will not display the contents of a folder or drive in the content pane. When I click on a drive or folder in the navigation pane the content pane only displays the 'No items match your search' message. When I try to save the file in the Documents folder I get a 'The file name is not valid' message. This happens in some programs(Notepad++, Firefox, IE7) but not others(Notepad). This also happens in Firefox, Chrome and IE7 when I'm trying to upload a file to the internet(either my webserver(a Joomla CMS) or Soundcloud.com(A music sharing site).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.
So my laptop was working fine last night, woke up this morning and this issue appeared. I'm guessing it's a virus (stupidly, I haven't installed an AVP on this machine yet). Anyways, I can't open anything. Doesn't matter where I try to open the program or file from. The load icon appears but nothing happens. I also can't access the task manager or shut down/log off/etc. from the start menu, I get a "Failure to display security and shut down options" error msg. I'm in safe mode with networking right now, which is allowing me to open programs. I've already tried a system restore but it didn't solve the problem.

I installed a program and then uninstalled it. However, I noticed there's a stupid shared network folder in my main "NAME-PC" network. How do I remove this? I would like to remove the "sbp" folder, but there is no "delete" option. No matter what I do, this folder cannot be deleted and is here to stay....even if I try to mess around with the sharing options. I am logged in as an administrator as well. I understand that my "Users" folder is the main one that I would like to keep, but I cannot get rid the other folder
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem getting Media Center to display my Photos showing the individual photos contents of each folder.I am running Windows 7 HP 64 bit with all updates. My MEDIA (movies, music & photos) are on a separate hdd (M). Each of the media formats has it's own folder on the M drive, Movies, Music & Photos. I have no problem with the movies or the music. However, when I choose "pictures" in Windows Media Center only the individual photos folders are shown....no photos are shown in these folders. I see the individual folders but no contents. I have set up "Libraries" on the C: drive; Music, Video & Photos. When I click on photos in the "Libraries" all the photos folders are show each with it's own photos. I have "Shared" these libraries as well as each folder on the Media drive M. The format of the individual photos is jpg. I have run SFC/Scannow.

Normally, if I go into properties of a folder, I am able to change the icon. But I noticed that this option disappears for folders in shared drives on the network.
I noticed this phenomenon also occurs in previous versions of Windows as well.
I installed Hamachi Free VPN. I have shared (full control) my entire external drive for convenience for everyone on my LAN. However, there are some folders that need to be excluded from this share over the VPN due to sensitive information in those folders (other users on my LAN backup data to those folders).
Is there a way to restrict ALL users over the VPN from accessing those folders (without adding a rule for every user)?
Im after trying to sync a folder from my laptop to a network share on a windows 2003 file server. Not exactly sure how to go about doing it. I would like files to sync both ways so any changes i make to the folder on my laptop get applied to the share on my file server and any changes to the share on the file server are applied to the file on my laptop.
I had a look at sync centre which i believe is 7's version of offline files. I made a test share on my file server and set it to "Always Available Offline"
Now where do i go from here? Is it just a case of setting the foder on my laptop to point towards the network share?
