View 4 Replies View RelatedBackground, I'm somewhat of a techie, not much. Been playing around with Windows 7 recently, 64 bit. Just need some help/advice.
I have an old Logitech MX510 mouse and I wanted to install the Logitech software so I could program the buttons. Turns out Logitech doesn't offer anything past XP. So I downloaded the XP versionof the software and ran it on my Windows 7 in compatibility mode for XP (SP2), as administrator. Everything installed, but the mouse software didn't work. Windows driver was overriding Logitech, probably because it was more recent.
So I tried uninstalling the logitech stuff seeing as it didn't work. Unfortunately I got an error saying I was missing a file i8042prt.sys and therefore the software could not be uninstalled. Hm, I looked up the file and supposedly it should be in Windows/System32/Drivers. I didn't have it, so I thought I'd be smart. I copied the file from my old Windows XP directories and pasted it into the correct location, ran the uninstall, and everything was removed easily. Cool, so after that was done I thought that well I shouldn't leave a random file around in my systems folder so I tried deleting it.
Turns out, I couldn't delete the file I had pasted (i8042prt.sys) because I no longer had permission. As administrator this was kinda weird so I looked at who had permission. Only System and TrustedInstaller (I'm guessing this came from the Logitech software installer) had full permission. As admin, I could only read and execute. Looked around at some of the other files I have in my Drivers folder and the permissions were all similar. Administrator didn't have permission for most of the files, but TrustedInstaller did.
So...anyone know if this is a problem or anything? Everything seems to be working fine...but it kinda irks me that even as admin I can't touch many files. On a side note, I'm curious to know if the i8042prt.sys file was there originally and got deleted or if it's only there because I put it there. I would appreciate if anyone running Windows 7 could check and lemme know.
Edit: Also this is still a pretty fresh install, so no system restore points before the incident.

I am presently using a Logitech Trackball mouse. It has a cable and is connected to one of my computer's USB 2 ports. I started using it when my cordless Trackball suddenly "died". It just froze in the middle of my monitor and every attempt to revive it failed. Googling for a solution only led me to see that I wasn't the only one experiencing this tragedy. The Logitech forum is literally full of complains concerning the Trackball.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a driver for built-in Logitech webcam Acer Aspire 5680. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate. I've tried this: Acer Support - Drivers & Download
Acer doesn't seem to have drivers for Windows 7. The XP/Vista drivers do not work. Windows 7 cannot find the webcam. Any ideas, folks?
in all builds up to and including 7077 my Canon MX700 network printer was recognized and worked like a charm, including the scanner etc.
Now on a clean install of the RC (build 7100) the Canon network scanning utility comes up with a message saying it has known problems and to contact Canon.
I have tried it in all compatibility modes, administrator, the latest Vista drivers etc from Canon. I did manage to get it installed and it can see the printer but it will not allocate a port for it. When I try to allocate the port it will not work.
Canon do not have any way to contact them other than by phone (good one Canon) and I really have not had the time to sit on the end of a phone wating for them to tell me Windows 7 is not supported.
Oh...this is in x32 and x64 I have tried both but back on x32 for the moment.
I might try the long way....by reinstalling 7077 and then upgrading to 7100 but that is a bit extreme.
Anyone else had similar problems and solved them or do I just have to wait patiently for Canon?
Back in the fall when I switched over to Windows 7 Home Premium x64 from Vista Home Premium SP2 x64, I installed the software for my Canon Pixma MX700 multifunctional printer. I used the original Vista driver installer disc, and despite an warning message about a "known compatibility issue" the printer and scanning functions worked fine. I use the Pixma on the LAN via a wired ethernet connection. Worked fine for occasional scanning in November, December, and January. Then for months I had no need to scan anything, just printing over the network with no problems.Last weekend I needed to scan something. I usually just push the scan button on the printer, verify the computer it's going to scan to (it lists them), and away it goes. This time my computer threw an error about the scanner driver saying the scanner wasn't on the network. Huh? If the scanner's not on the network how did the computer know it was trying to send a scan... So I bailed on that and instead used the MP Navigator EX software on the computer. It failed too, giving the "scanner not connected" error, either using Navigator's direct interface or telling it to open the scanner driver which brings up a slightly different interface (when it worked).First I went to the Canon site and d/l'ed all the latest drivers for 7 x64 and installed them. Still get the same errors. Tried setting it up to scan via USB temporary connection. If I install it that way it works, but it's not a long term solution. And it stops working after a reboot. The odd thing is the scanner works over the LAN after I set it up for USB (when using NAvigator, because the scan to lan button on the printer doesn't work of course), again until reboot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an infrared webcam [generic] from China. Cheap and easy. Turns out that it "encountered an error" when I installed the driver. Before I bought it, I didn't know that it was for 32-bit Windows (they failed to inform me). Is there a way to emulate a 32-bit application on a 64-bit system??? Or a way I can fool the driver to make it work? Or even tamper with it to do so? And, if that won't work; does that mean that the device only works on 32-bit system and would never operate on a 64-bit one? I tried the webcam and driver on a 32-bit laptop and it worked fine. So they device isn't faulty.

Like a choppy, sputtering static noise. I'm using 'Digital Precision Headset' by Logitech. It has worked fine for me on XP, so i don't see what the problem could be. The driver sofware comes with windows, so logitech doesnt offer driver support for it. I did however un-plug/plug-in to see if windows(7) would reinstall the drivers. It did, but i still cant get them to work right. Which sucks for online gamming, because i dont have another mic to use.

I installed Windows 7 RC 7100 on my gaming rig a couple of months ago. All was well until I got to the Logitech Gaming drivers for my Rumblepad 2 and Force Feedback Racing Wheel. Using Vista x64 drivers my system crashed repeatedly (cant recall exact error message)
The logitech website says that most Vista drivers will not have any issues with Windows 7, however I am a little apprehensive about reformatting if the problem occurs again.
My questions are:
1. Is anybody else having the same probs?
2. Is there a solution to this?(apart from not installing Windows 7)
I really liked the the look and feel of Windows 7 however not being able to use game controllers on my gaming rig sort of defeats the purpose.
OS: Windows 7 64bit Device: Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro
Maybe you guys might have some ideas in helping me solve this issue with a driver for a Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro.
Previously I got the webcam working by using this work around: Software Simple Blog Archive Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Pro Webcam In Windows Vista and it worked fine no problems. That was when I had Windows 7 32bit installed.
Now that I am running the 64bit version things are proving a little tricky. I tried the same technique as I previously did for the 32bit but no luck.
Additionally I tried some of the methods listed in the other QuickCam Pro for Notebooks 9000 thread but no luck with that either. Of course the webcams are different, I was just hoping that the same principle might apply..
Has anyone gotten the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 to work with Windows 7? I've tried with Vista compatibility and also with XP and it just doesn't want to work. Any help out there?
