View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my FF 7.0.1 (or whatever the most up-to-date version of 7 is/was) to 8.0 and am noticing an issue. The problem I am experiencing is that when I launch FF (regardless if its done via the start menu or the button pinned to my taskbar), it adds a separate taskbar button (a la previous versions of Windows) instead of how Windows 7 normally handles such things. In addition to this, it also does not reflect having multiple tabs/windows open on the taskbar button (the attached image shows how the button for IE(9) displays the different tabs I have open in it, as well as the vertical lines next to the button which represent the number of tabs/windows open; however, the Firefox button does not function in either way, but you can see in the image that I have 3 tabs open in the browser window).Are these compatibility bugs between Windows 7 and Firefox (that the Mozilla devs need to address)?

Is this how it should work -- I don't like the idea of open ports without knowing what they are doing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop was left on yesterday with numerous firefox tabs open (x20) for various websites, although no one was using the computer and this is a regular occurrence without fault until yesterday. I'd gone out fishing and noticed the BSOD and took this photo of the screen showing the full error as "stop 0x0000007A (0xc0487688, 0x3e5898c0, 0x96ed7e3e)"
I had altered the BSOD settings in the past to stop the laptop from restarting in order to have time to take note of the error codes in case of future failures, although I hadn't had any BSOD for over a year. The previous BSOD's were 0x000000d1 (netwLv32.sys) and 0x0000007e (Volsnap.sys), unlike those BSOD's, the one shown in the photo doesn't have a description other than the error code.
I had turned off the laptop while in BSOD, having completed dumping physical memory; subquent restarts were only reaching here followed promptly by a black screen with the flashing white underscore, which I could escape by alt+Ctrl+delete. At one point the laptop did load and somehow I was able to access System recovery options and selected startup repair, which I viewed the log prior to restarting and everything completed successfully and although I did restart the computer, I haven't been able to proceed further than the initial loading window or the defaulting black screen that follows.
I've tried running the BIOS setup utility, with the hard disk self test diagnostics, though this failed each time.
Not able to provide any debug logs until I can proceed further. Have the windows 7 back up DVD disc, but not sure if my DVD drive is playing up, as when I push ESC and enter into the boot menu selecting the Atapi cd/DVD rom drive, it only goes to the prior mentioned black screen and remains there long after 5 mins. The disc drive is heard to be working if the disc is within, though nothing results on the screen. I had recalled some difficulty prior to this BSOD with the CD/DVD rom, having decided it was either only a driver or possibly registry error or required itunes reinstall, as afterwards having successfully read a music cd with itunes.
I don't think I have the windows recovery discs or system restore discs, as I tried some I thought were these, but nothing occurred and I figure they must be from when I tested the windows 7 beta or W7RC or such. So only have the legit Windows 7 back up disc (32 & 64 bits), which I was running 32 bit. Only twice has it shown up "Press any key to boot from disc", although there was no response and it doesn't always reach this prompt.
How do they do it in Tomshardware's Web Browser Grand Prix? There is a test where they open 40 tabs in order to test memory efficiency. Do they open tabs one by one or they have batch or script file. I just want test it because most of the time, I only open 10 to 15 tabs when browsing the internet. But in reality, do people really have 50 to 100 tabs open all at the same time, I mean what are they doing on their browsers?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI posted a while ago saying my laptop would freeze etc, and I suspected it was because my fan needed to be cleaned. I got it checked out and cleaned, and my fan is working perfectly okay now. However, the freezing just happened again. I wasn't doing anything specifically hardcore, I just had my browser open and was listening to the radio, and scrolling through Facebook etc. I had only 3 or 4 tabs open. When I opened a new page to someone's blog, my laptop froze again. The mouse froze, I couldn't do anything, even my Caps Lock wasn't functioning. The music started going insanely slow. I waited for a bit and it stayed like that, so I just switched it off and restarted it. I got my hard drive checked out at the store and they said it's okay and there are no issues with it. It might be my registry because I use CCleaner from time to time.

Some time ago a firefox update stopped the previous tabs from opening. I have some forums that I read and would like for them to open as before. I looked it up and it turns out that this message occurs some time before your drive fails.I did a Full computer backup using windows Back up utility using an external Hard drive. Now I'm going to buy a new internal Hard drive to replace the faulty one.What are the steps i have to do to back up properly?After some search,I learned that:
1_ Backup everything.
2_ Replace Faulty drive.
3_ Rebuild Raid 0 array.
4_ Restore the system image.
Does the new internal Hard drive have to be the same brand/type/size as the old Faulty hard drive? Also I've never used Raid, so how do i recreate a new raid 0 array ? From Bios ? Should i create a repair disk too ? or would Windows dvd work?

When I click on the Internet Explorer icon on my desktop to open a session, two internet explorer sessions open. This went on for 2-3 weeks. Now when I do the same thing 3 sessions open. How do I get back to opening just one session.
First- if I have a maximized window open, any window that I open that's not maximized, opens and disappears to the taskbar icon for it
Second- I can't view more than one window of the same program at the same time. No matter how small I resize it, the second window sends the first window to it's taskbar icon.I've run sfc /scannow, scanned with Avast & Malwarebytes. Restored folder options in the view tab & set it to open in it's own window.
I like the windows 7. It much faster.
But When i open Internet Explorer Window it opens a new window in first time and the IE icon in task bar is filled with IE windows, If i want to open another IE window, I have only 2 choices :
1. Open New window using File menu or
2. Right click IE Window on task bar and clicking IE.
Any one tell me how to open new IE window when first IE window is open, like opening multiple IE windows by clicking IE icon in taskbar.

That the number of files is (16) or (2^4) or (hex f), suggests to me that the programmer didn't allow for numbers large than (hex f). Although that number could mean nothing and is simply a coincidence.

I am on a windows 7 32-bit. Today I start up my PC, it freezes after login, and I get a error accompanied by a red alert as shown in the system tray (notification area) icon which saying that the system exposed to risk, and anti-virus protection and/or anti-spyware protection is not running properly. I can hardly do anything, start button wont work, ctrl-alt-del wont work, etc. (cant open anything from the desktop)
I tried using SAFE MODE, but same problem. I also used system restore via the Windows 7 disk, but no changes. Its to do with the Anti-virus I think.
I ran Combofix without any problems and removed multiple items.I started my McAfee to run behind it this morning and it ran extremely slow.I ended up stopping it and attempted to go back to run combofix again tonight and even tried a few other downloads.I keep getting a message that my current security settings will not allow.I have already did a temporary shut down of McAfee to make sure that it was not interferring.I know that I still have atleast some sort of problem because the google search is still acting up.

This happens when i try to open multiple files on photoshop when i want to open pics from my camera's memory card. and now i noticed it when i tried to upload all my photos from my iphone to an album on snapfish.. I am using windows 7
First, running Windows 7 64bit on full & clean install to a new HD. Recently I have been noticing on a few trips to task manager that some times I will have a whole bunch of explorer.exe's running even if I have nothing but my desktop. In doing some checking I found that this is happening from each time I open a new explorer window but the issue is, when I close the window, the process still is running.It even happens if say from my desktop, I open only one explorer window and close that one and then at open another single one and close it and on an on like this. Simple put it seems like for any condition I open an explorer window, despite the fact that I have closed it, it doesn't really seem to close. Note, in doing some Googling I have found that I am not alone with this an some have recommend to uncheck, "Launch folder in separate process" in folder options and I have tried this but it doesn't work. So how do I get Windows 7 to stop running a process of explorer.exe once I have closed it as sometimes I have even seen up to 10 of these running and its really eating up my memory.

i have been to many forums on the internet and still cant find a clear solution. I considered getting a third party control for this, but even they are opening only once.
I really like aspects of the new taskbar, especially pinning program icons to it. I always would open my main program's in the same order so they would be in the same place on taskbar, but if I had to close one and reopen... oh well. so 7 fixed that problem,If I have multiple windows open in same program (e.g. firefox), I lose the ability to minimize ALL windows controlled by that programs icon. When right clicking on icon, there should be a MINIMIZE ALL choice in addition to the CLOSE ALL. Seems like a no brainer to me.

I noticed when I was clicking several jpgs to open in Photoshop, where my default viewer is Google's Picasa (for ease of viewing and convenience). The strange thing is that I can still "Open With" individual files. I thought maybe it was just a Photoshop goof but it applies to Mp3s/Winamp and AVIs as well. This is very inconvenient!

When I look at the Download folder it shows an icon with correct title, but I can't see any files when I double click on it. This is not a "file folder" icon. I get an "Open file Security Warning" pop up. Shows run or cancel. Hit run it brings up "Win Zip Self Extractor" pop up. I have already supposedly unzipped this into the downloads. Have been through the issues of downloading Google Earth and think I have worked this out.

I'm guessing it's a virus (stupidly, I haven't installed an AVP on this machine yet). Anyways, I can't open anything. Doesn't matter where I try to open the program or file from. The load icon appears but nothing happens. I also can't access the task manager or shut down/log off/etc. from the start menu, I get a "Failure to display security and shut down options" error msg. I'm in safe mode with networking right now, which is allowing me to open programs. I've already tried a system restore but it didn't solve the problem.
