Nov 10, 2011I recently upgraded my FF 7.0.1 (or whatever the most up-to-date version of 7 is/was) to 8.0 and am noticing an issue. The problem I am experiencing is that when I launch FF (regardless if its done via the start menu or the button pinned to my taskbar), it adds a separate taskbar button (a la previous versions of Windows) instead of how Windows 7 normally handles such things. In addition to this, it also does not reflect having multiple tabs/windows open on the taskbar button (the attached image shows how the button for IE(9) displays the different tabs I have open in it, as well as the vertical lines next to the button which represent the number of tabs/windows open; however, the Firefox button does not function in either way, but you can see in the image that I have 3 tabs open in the browser window).Are these compatibility bugs between Windows 7 and Firefox (that the Mozilla devs need to address)?

Jan 22, 2012My laptop was left on yesterday with numerous firefox tabs open (x20) for various websites, although no one was using the computer and this is a regular occurrence without fault until yesterday. I'd gone out fishing and noticed the BSOD and took this photo of the screen showing the full error as "stop 0x0000007A (0xc0487688, 0x3e5898c0, 0x96ed7e3e)"
I had altered the BSOD settings in the past to stop the laptop from restarting in order to have time to take note of the error codes in case of future failures, although I hadn't had any BSOD for over a year. The previous BSOD's were 0x000000d1 (netwLv32.sys) and 0x0000007e (Volsnap.sys), unlike those BSOD's, the one shown in the photo doesn't have a description other than the error code.
I had turned off the laptop while in BSOD, having completed dumping physical memory; subquent restarts were only reaching here followed promptly by a black screen with the flashing white underscore, which I could escape by alt+Ctrl+delete. At one point the laptop did load and somehow I was able to access System recovery options and selected startup repair, which I viewed the log prior to restarting and everything completed successfully and although I did restart the computer, I haven't been able to proceed further than the initial loading window or the defaulting black screen that follows.
I've tried running the BIOS setup utility, with the hard disk self test diagnostics, though this failed each time.
Not able to provide any debug logs until I can proceed further. Have the windows 7 back up DVD disc, but not sure if my DVD drive is playing up, as when I push ESC and enter into the boot menu selecting the Atapi cd/DVD rom drive, it only goes to the prior mentioned black screen and remains there long after 5 mins. The disc drive is heard to be working if the disc is within, though nothing results on the screen. I had recalled some difficulty prior to this BSOD with the CD/DVD rom, having decided it was either only a driver or possibly registry error or required itunes reinstall, as afterwards having successfully read a music cd with itunes.
I don't think I have the windows recovery discs or system restore discs, as I tried some I thought were these, but nothing occurred and I figure they must be from when I tested the windows 7 beta or W7RC or such. So only have the legit Windows 7 back up disc (32 & 64 bits), which I was running 32 bit. Only twice has it shown up "Press any key to boot from disc", although there was no response and it doesn't always reach this prompt.

Do they open tabs one by one or they have batch or script file. I just want test it because most of the time, I only open 10 to 15 tabs when browsing the internet. But in reality, do people really have 50 to 100 tabs open all at the same time, I mean what are they doing on their browsers?

Sep 8, 2012I posted a while ago saying my laptop would freeze etc, and I suspected it was because my fan needed to be cleaned. I got it checked out and cleaned, and my fan is working perfectly okay now. However, the freezing just happened again. I wasn't doing anything specifically hardcore, I just had my browser open and was listening to the radio, and scrolling through Facebook etc. I had only 3 or 4 tabs open. When I opened a new page to someone's blog, my laptop froze again. The mouse froze, I couldn't do anything, even my Caps Lock wasn't functioning. The music started going insanely slow. I waited for a bit and it stayed like that, so I just switched it off and restarted it. I got my hard drive checked out at the store and they said it's okay and there are no issues with it. It might be my registry because I use CCleaner from time to time.

Dec 31, 2012I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and I've recently run into a problem that I cannot really seem to find the solution for on here or on the Internet. (I realize this may take a while to read, but sorry, but I want to be sure to describe every detail of my problem that I can, if you would be kind enough to read this all I would be very grateful)I had recently built my own PC, and everything was running perfectly fine for a while, until a week ago, where after having downloaded music from a trusted music downloading program, Rhapsody, I had tried playing this music, but windows media player required me to restart my computer to play these music files for some odd reason. Well after the restart, I noticed that every installed program on my E: drive (Steam, Ventrilo, the many games I had installed on and not on Steam...) would prompt me with the "Do you want to open this file" warning, which is odd because I'm an administrator and UAC is turned off for me. These programs then, even if I opened the .exe in the folder that they were installed on, would not run, and no matter how I runned them (as admin, in compatibility mode), these programs would not work. On my Computer, I have Windows installed on an SSD(C: drive), and most of my games/programs on an HDD (E: ).I tried to re-install steam, ventrilo, etc. but this did not work because these programs said something along the lines of not being able to write/create a key. I thought the problem seemed to have stemmed towards some error in my registry, but in regedit everything seemed to say that I have full control on these files, so I did not believe it was some permissions/registry error.files (nor how to even start searching for this kind of problem!) and decided to reboot from a system image; no dice, that did not fix my problem either. The one thing I noticed, however, is that ONLY the programs on my E: drive didn't work. If I moved a program such as ventrilo to C:, it worked with no problems. Now I cannot move all my games and programs to my SSD, because it's only 128 GB and I own a LOT of games, and I did not want my 1TB HDD to go to waste, so as a last resort, I did a complete reformat of my HDD, and now everything worked perfectly fine, all my music, games, programs worked, I had no more problems, until today at least.For reasons that I deem unnecessary to go into, I needed to use Internet Explorer (I usually use chrome to browse the web) to open a .gif that I had saved to my HDD. For some reason, because I opened internet explorer, the same problem as before came back, but the only programs affected are the programs that I had put on the "favorites" tab in Windows Explorer! Every program not listed on this tab works, but the programs I had put on there (Steam, Chrome, Avast!) don't work now (or I get the same "do you want to open this file" security warning), even if they are installed on my C: drive; The same problems seem to have come back.But, oddly enough, when I open Chrome or Avast from the .exe in their installed folders, they work perfectly fine, if I run them as an administrator, they work perfectly fine, but if I try to open their shortcuts from the desktop or from the favorites tab, I get the "do you want to run this file" security warning. Steam, nor any of my games installed on or not on Steam don't work no matter where I try to open them, I've tried re-installing steam, but as before it now cannot "create a key" upon start-up. I also tried deleting these shortcuts off my desktop and off the favorites tab, but programs such as Steam and my Games will not run now.I am truly baffled to as to why this is happening to me again, every thing seems to have gone haywire all because I opened Internet Explorer to view a .gif. I tried to uninstall IE as well, but that still hasn't fixed anything.even if it is just identifying the problem that I have, I would be very grateful, as I do not want to have to reformat my entire HDD again, I want to try and get to the bottom of this problem because I have a bad feeling that these problems will reoccur again and again if I don't fix it.

1. Open New window using File menu or

Any one tell me how to open new IE window when first IE window is open, like opening multiple IE windows by clicking IE icon in taskbar.

The order would be that the last file would open first, then the remaining files would open in the order they are listed in Explorer.Windows 7 is not like that. Here's what happens.Pick all 42 files, hit enter. Nothing. No error, no warning, just nothing happens.Pick 2 files, hit enter. Opens just like normal.Pick 20 files, nothing.Pick 10 files, works fine.Pick 15 files, works finePick 16 files, nothing.More oddness. When multiple files open, they open in a random order.More more oddness. Close them, then open then again. Random, but in a different random order!My thought on this is that it is just a bug. That the number of files is (16) or (2^4) or (hex f), suggests to me that the programmer didn't allow for numbers large than (hex f). Although that number could mean nothing and is simply a coincidence.

Multiple Explorer.exe's Staying Open?
Jul 30, 2010First, running Windows 7 64bit on full & clean install to a new HD. Recently I have been noticing on a few trips to task manager that some times I will have a whole bunch of explorer.exe's running even if I have nothing but my desktop. In doing some checking I found that this is happening from each time I open a new explorer window but the issue is, when I close the window, the process still is running.It even happens if say from my desktop, I open only one explorer window and close that one and then at open another single one and close it and on an on like this. Simple put it seems like for any condition I open an explorer window, despite the fact that I have closed it, it doesn't really seem to close. Note, in doing some Googling I have found that I am not alone with this an some have recommend to uncheck, "Launch folder in separate process" in folder options and I have tried this but it doesn't work. So how do I get Windows 7 to stop running a process of explorer.exe once I have closed it as sometimes I have even seen up to 10 of these running and its really eating up my memory.

I always would open my main program's in the same order so they would be in the same place on taskbar, but if I had to close one and reopen... oh well. so 7 fixed that problem,If I have multiple windows open in same program (e.g. firefox), I lose the ability to minimize ALL windows controlled by that programs icon. When right clicking on icon, there should be a MINIMIZE ALL choice in addition to the CLOSE ALL. Seems like a no brainer to me.

I noticed when I was clicking several jpgs to open in Photoshop, where my default viewer is Google's Picasa (for ease of viewing and convenience). When I run it, it simply very quickly pops up the cmd dialog, which quickly disappears, and nothing is loaded.
I've tried 'running as administrator' - same problem.
File is xxxxx.bat
I've even tried the fail safe:
start /d C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe
and that doesn't work, so it's not a error in my paths... for some reason, it just won't load...
Worked in XP fine...
Is there a different technique in 7?

Can't Use CTRL-F6 In Word When Open Multiple Files From Windows Explorer
Jan 19, 2012I believe I�ve run into a bug with Windows Explorer, however, it could possibly be with Word 2010. If it�s not a bug, and can be �fixed� by your helping me, that would be wonderful! (I use Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.) This is what does work just fine: From Word, I open a file, then open another file, then another. I am able to use the CTRL-F6 to move from document to document.This is what does not work: I open those same 3 files from Windows Explorer, by using the mouse to select them and hit ENTER. The files do open in Word. However, the CTRL-F6 keystroke does not work to be able to move from document to document. In the latter, it�s a little bit as if Windows Explorer is starting multiple copies of Word. However, from the Word icon on the taskbar, both cases look the same, i.e., when I hover over the icon, I can see the 3 miniature files, and can click into any of them. I�d like to understand what�s going on that�s different in the 2 cases. But I�d really love to learn of how I can make the latter case work. With my work, I do this process (open multiple files from Windows Explorer) dozens of times a day, and I need efficiency. It takes a lot longer to open each file one-by-one. It also takes longer to not be able to use CTRL-F6.

It's something I thought could be useful for some people You know how you can shift+right click on items in windows explorer to get added options? Well, the same command works on jump lists, except with some useful added functionality.I remember at least one forum member having mentioned that the reason they misses quicklaunch is that they could drag and drop files onto an app to open said files with said app. Well, although this doesn't completely cover that problem, as you have to use the keyboard, it sure does help.Lets say you have 10 images you want to edit in a program, but you dont feel like opening up the program and then searching for the files, because you already have the folder with the files open in explorer. Normally, if you right click on the item in a jumplist that represents the application itself, you only get a tiny context menu with 3 or four options. I was messing around and saw that if you hold shift while you right click, you will get a full host of options like one might when browsing in windows explorer. So if I want to edit those ten images in GIMP for example, I can select the images, right click and press copy, open the jumplist for GIMP, and hold down on shift while I right click on the GIMP program in the jumplist. Now the right click menu gives me the option to Paste, so I select paste, and voila, my 10 images open in GIMP.

Win 7 > Windows Explorer > Highlight File (jpg) > Open > Application Launches > Open 2nd File > Opens in NEW application window. I then have 2,3,4,..of the same application running. I want to open and work with the files within the SAME single application window. (using windows explorer)(like I did with XP).
How do I tweak Win7?
What is the terminology or registry area for this technical change? (so I can search better without so many common words)
Which files-- Excel (xls), Microsoft Paint (jpg), Corel Photo-Paint (jpg) >> seems like all applications that can open multiple files. It definitely seems like a change to the O/S. Same apps worked fine in XP.
(I would accept a single tweak to get Corel Photo-Paint JPGs to all open in the same app window. I want to go to windows explorer, click on JPGs, and have them all open in 1 instance of Corel Photo-Paint, or any application associated with JPGs.)
