Windows 7 Freezing After Login - System Exposed To Risk

Jul 25, 2011

I am on a windows 7 32-bit. Today I start up my PC, it freezes after login, and I get a error accompanied by a red alert as shown in the system tray (notification area) icon which saying that the system exposed to risk, and anti-virus protection and/or anti-spyware protection is not running properly. I can hardly do anything, start button wont work, ctrl-alt-del wont work, etc. (cant open anything from the desktop)
I tried using SAFE MODE, but same problem. I also used system restore via the Windows 7 disk, but no changes. Its to do with the Anti-virus I think.

Windows 7 Freezing After Login?

Feb 8, 2013

I recently restored my computer after using Windows 8 for a while. I had backed up everything to a drive, then I went through with the desktop installation of Windows 8. After using it for about a week, I decided that it wasn't for me, and I reverted back to 7 from the backup I'd made. After it went through the entire process, I rebooted, and found that the boot time was MUCH longer than it was before I'd put Windows 8 on there. Mind you, I'm booting from an Intel SSD. Whereas before using Windows 8 I had a boot time of, at most, 30 seconds, now it's taking about a minute and a half to get to the login screen. Now here's the real problem: Once I login, if I try to do anything, approximately 5-10 seconds after I'm at the desktop, everything except for the mouse freezes. This means that whatever window I have open at the time becomes unresponsive. Windows Explorer won't even respond. If I try right-clicking, nothing happens. Ctrl-Alt-Del, nothing. Ctrl-Shift-Esc, nothing. All the while the cursor is still able to move around the screen.I have more or less ruled out hardware problems, as once Windows has started and everything becomes un-frozen,everything seems to work as normal. I think it had something to do with my re-image. If I had the resources, I would probably run Startup Repair by using the original install disk, but I'm at college right now and it wouldn't be easy to convince my parents to ship me our only Windows 7 install disks.

Windows 7, Explorer.exe Freezing When Login Account After?

Apr 13, 2011

The only thing that remains consistent is that I'm playing a 3D game with audio on. Completely different programs each time. The screen would freeze up and so would the audio, and my keyboard/mouse don't respond at all. I resort to doing a hard reset with the computer power button. Each time, when I log in again, explorer.exe is frozen. the taskbar appears, but nothing on the desktop, and after a couple seconds it all freezes up, with the busy mouse symbol when I highlight taskbar. I can still move mouse around though.

I can do ctrl+alt+delete at this point at least. Restarting explorer.exe doesn't work, so I try logging out in that menu, which does work, although slowly. I've tried scanning for virus and also a system restore to earlier point, no difference. The only solution so far has been to simply log in safe mode - which DOES work by the way - and create a new account from scratch.Last time I cut/paste almost everything between old account and new, this time I will only do basics like save games and documents/music/video.

Here's my system info:

Compaq CQ5210f
**Athlon II x2 2.7 GHz processor (65w)
**M2N68-LA Narra5-GL6 motherboard
**3GB DDR2 SDRAM memory
**500GB hard drive
**250w power supply
** 1gb DDR3 Radeon HD 4650 graphic card

Windows 7 Freezing On Login Screen (choose User)?

Dec 31, 2011

recently my laptop (Toshiba Portege R830) started to freeze on the login screen almost everytime I power it up. As soon as I enter the login screen (the screen where you choose which user you want to log in with), my laptop just plain freezes: nothing works except shutting it down and restarting and praying. But sometimes it works and doesn't freeze, strangely (like right now). When I open my laptop in safe mode, it always work. There isn't any problem at all.I did a chkdsk in the console command screen (the famous cmd.exe) and also checked for any ''integrity problems'' (sfc/scannow I think it was) but it came up with nothing.I know it's vague but this is all I know. Does anyone know what might cause freezes on the login screen when you have to choose user? Personally I'd say this isn't related to hardware since the computer is like 2 or 3 months old, which there isn't much stuff on it right now too. It's also not a virus, I didn't do anything shady (yet) with this laptop.

I also have another small problem with my user folder. It's the default folder located at C:Users/(my name). It has been acting strangely since I had this computer. Sometimes when I delete one of the annoying useless folders like ''Favorites'' or ''Searches'' they don't disappear right away. I have to refresh the page to make it disappear for real, and this is troubling me because I never saw anything like that before. Usually when you delete something, it just goes away instantly. Also, I backup'ed some of the folders in the user folder on an external hard drive and sometimes when I power up my external hard drive some duplicate folders are created, which is so unbelievably annoying since when they keep coming back and I have to refresh everything to confirm I really deleted them

Is IE8 Opening Ports - Security Risk

Apr 27, 2009

Looking at IE8 running it seems to have some ports like 64021 open.

Is this how it should work -- I don't like the idea of open ports without knowing what they are doing.

Any Guru out there -- Is this OK or is this a security hole that could potentially be exploited from "Outside" by any program executing from within the browser.

Raid 0 Drive 1 At Risk / How To Back Up And Restore

Feb 10, 2012

My Laptop came with Raid 0 over 2 one terrabyte harddisks. Last week i started getting Drive 1 at risk message. I looked it up and it turns out that this message occurs some time before your drive fails.I did a Full computer backup using windows Back up utility using an external Hard drive. Now I'm going to buy a new internal Hard drive to replace the faulty one. What are the steps i have to do to back up properly? After some search,I learned that:

1_ Backup everything.
2_ Replace Faulty drive.
3_ Rebuild Raid 0 array.
4_ Restore the system image.

Does the new internal Hard drive have to be the same brand/type/size as the old Faulty hard drive? Also I've never used Raid, so how do i recreate a new raid 0 array ? From Bios ? Should i create a repair disk too ? or would Windows dvd work?

Windows Explorer Crashes And System Freezing After Video Card Upgrade?

May 24, 2011

I very recently graduated and as a congratulations, my brother-in-law gave me a brand new Nvidia 9800GTX for my computer. I was running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit when I installed it and I immediately saw a drastic increase in performance. However, when I turned my computer off for the night, I noticed that it would hang at the shut down screen and never actually turn off.Refusing to believe that the new card was at fault, and having next to nothing on my C partition after my most recent formatting, I decided to go ahead and reinstall Windows to hopefully fix the issue. This is where my other problems started in. Suddenly Windows Explorer was crashing whenever I tried to use my disk drive and my system would randomly lock up. After assuming my install went wrong, I tried reinstalling twice more and neither worked. Finally, I got fed up and reinstalled my 32-bit copy of Windows 7 Professional and it still didn't work. As of now I've removed the new card and put my old 9500GT back in to find that I'm not having a single problem with the 9500.

System Has Been Freezing Occasionally

Sep 11, 2012

I'm running Win7 on my Dell XPS M1530 laptop.Recently the system has been freezing occasionally. But the interesting thing is that it still responds a few minutes after the freeze. For example, the display dims itself after a few inactive minutes according to the power plan, and clicking a button restores the brightness. After a few minutes it's totally unresponsive. The fan keeps spinning all the time. It seems that the freeze happens when there is some excessive load on the system, but nothing that it hasn't endured before.I checked the temperatures with CPUID Monitor. Nothing irregular happens at the moment of freeze.

System Freezing Randomly When Playing COD MW3

Feb 6, 2012

I've been getting random system freezes when playing COD MW3 and after I restart my PC I get a report for BSOD 124. What I've checked until now:

1.Non of my components is overheating or actually heating at all, since I have excellent custom cooling.
2. Checked my memory with a 10 hours memtest for windows 4 instances, each 1500MB.
3. Checked my PSU with a multimeter for 1 hour during load/idle. It's within specs.
4. Not overclocking.

My specs are.
ASUS P5QC
Intel C2Q Q9550
2x4GB Kingston HyperX BLU DDR3 1600MHz CL9 @ 1333 MHz
Sapphire 4890 1gb
WD Caviar Black 1TB
CM Silent Pro 850W

I think these random freezes/lockups are related to some software conflict. I had a similar problem with some games running PB, and it appeared that PB has conflict with MSI Afterburner, so after I uninstalled afterburner I stopped getting it. The problem is that now my system freezes when I play Single PLayer/Spec Ops on MW3, which has nothing to do with PB.

System Crashing & Freezing Randomly For Several Months

ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5N-E SLI

Wireless Microsoft keyboard & mouse

This computer is 4-5 years old. Originally had Vista installed. Did a fresh install of Win 7 Pro x64when I bought the SSD drive.

In the last several months I have been upgrading it:

Installed 8 GB of 800MHz RAM - 4 months ago Installed a Crucial M4 SSD drive - 2 months ago Throughly cleaned all fans and the computer - 1 month ago Replaced Power supply that had failed - 2 weeks ago

This has been driving me crazy for quite a while. Before I replace the motherboard and cpu I wanted to see if someone could decipher the log files for me.

I have played with the BIOS settigs quite a bit. It may be time for me to return to default values..

Could A Faulty Optical Drive Cause System Freezing

Aug 24, 2012

I am stuck trying to figure out whether or not an optical drive messing up could have some serious performance repercussions. This is because my computer is freezing pedantically and I took Windows' advice and assumed it was my HDD which was corrupt.i bought a new one, installed it and everything seems all right at the moment, the only problem is is that I am on a fresh install of windows and my optical drive is being temperamental - sometimes working, other times not even realising it has a disc in it. When it does realise it has a disc in it, the applications (such as driver installers) crash mid-way through their process - my computer locks up and begins to freeze again, but this time, I can just eject the disk and everything sorts itself out almost straight away.

Newly Built Computer Random Freezing And Freezing On Starting Windows 7

Aug 17, 2012

I recently built my first PC three days ago...

Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

Black Screen After Login, Won't System Restore

Mar 13, 2012

I have Windows 7. Earlier, my computer was acting funny after trying to open some videos from my camera that I had connected. I retarted hoping it would act normal. I got the opposite. Every time I try to start up, it goes to a black screen after I put in my password. I will not let me open task manager or anything. I see a cursor that I can move around, but just a black screen. I've tried to google the problem (I am currently in safe mode) and tons of people said to do a system restore. Problem is, it says I haven't created any restore points and to open up system protection.

Here lies ANOTHER problem in my awesome string of luck. When I click on it, the system protection tab is not there. It's completely missing. I tried going to start, right clicking computer and going to properties. Guess what? It's not there either like it should be.

System Goes To Black Screen Before Login/welcome Screen After Windows 7 32-bit Upgrade?

Sep 2, 2012

My son has a Toshiba Satelite P205 that he just upgraded from Windows XP Home Premium to Windows 7 32-bit. After the upgrade completed the computer booted fine. The within 20 minutes he got the BSOD and the system rebooted. Now he can't get Windows to fully start. We've tried all of the options from F8 with no success. We have the Toshiba System Recovery Disk but it won't launch. (The Boot sequence has been changed to boot from CD/DVD and then the Hard Drive.)The Memory Diagnostic from the Windows 7 disk ran fine with no errors. I'm thinking I might need to re-format/wipe the drive to start fresh but don't know where to obtain a boot CD(no floppy drive on this laptop). Does anyone recommend a software that I can purchase to clear everything without destroying the CD/DVD accessibility so I can then use the System Recovery Disk to put it back to the original factory Settings?
