View 0 Replies View RelatedI want to alter the attachment manager in Local Group Policy Editor, but when I open it up, I am constantly greeted with a warning message that says One or more ActiveX control could not be displayed because either: 1) Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page, or 2) You have blocked a published of one of the controls. The odd thing is I am not trying to access anything online, this is merely a Windows policy editor access from my machine. I am wanting to change the attachment settings to stop warning messages from appearing when certain filetypes are unzipped.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI inadvertently stuffed the setting for "Access this computer from the network" by removing "Everyone" but not adding Authenticated Users before applying and can't login locally or remotely to my PC. For some reason there aren't any restore points either (my other PC with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate has many and I don't remember explicitly disabling or enabling on either PC).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a scenerio where I have to allow normal users on 3 tablets (windows 7) to enable and disable the wireless adaptor. They do not have a keyboard, except for the touch screen. This is only for testing, so it is temporary.I have the netsh command in a batch which will either turn off of turn on the adaptor. Problem is that these users cannot have admin rights to run the batch. I can select 'run as administrator' as a property, but that still prompts for a password. Is there a way to allow the netsh batch file to run through a local security policy, just for now?
I recently locked down a PC's with LGP. It is heavily restricted for public use.One strange problem that has cropped up is the Flash player in Firefox.I didn't install the plug-in before I locked down the user account. Afterwards I realized I hadnt installed it so I logged on to the Admin account and installed the plug. The player now works fine when logged in as Admin or as a User with full privileges but wont play in my locked down user account, where I still get a message saying the plug-in is not installed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that Win7 Home Premium does not have the group policy management console. As i only connect directly to my modem and do not file share or edit the computer remotely etc. From a security point of view, which policies would you recommend to change from their default state?,I'm aware that some if not all policies can be edited in regedit, are the registry values easy enough to find or should i just bite the bullet and upgrade my Windows 7 to Win7 Ultimate.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a local group policy to lock down a Windows 7 Pro Workstation for use in the Staff room. It's the first time I've used it, previously I've worked a bit with AD. but I've been following on line tutorials and using google and I'm nearly there with it.But I'm stuck on one thing. My approach has been to remove access to pretty much everything apart from IE, Firefox and Skype icons on the task bar. I've got the start menu empty apart from the shutdown button, which is what I want but at the top of the start menu is the users icon/picture thing and if i click on it it takes me to "user accounts". I can't for the life of me work out how to get rid of the picture or just stop this happening.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was trying to disable the 'Network Access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication' since it was enabled which meant I couldn't save passwords. When I right clicked it and opened properties, the options of enabled and disabled were grayed out. Also, there is a padlock on the icon of the Security Settings tab and so does its subtabs. I am on an administrator account but it still doesn't allow me to change the settings.

Tried to change my administrative settings because all of the sudden I can't install or uninstall programs. Any idea why this is happening? When I try to install I get this message: "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." I am 100% sure that I the system administrator. I've checked the processes running on my computer and there's nothing suspicious there, and my computer seems the same speed as always
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 Pro 32 bit on a domain?I have a group policy set on an OU named LAPTOPS. The policy gets applied, however the User ConfigWindows SettingScriptsLogon DOES NOT. When you run the GPRESULTS on the laptop, I see the policy settings being applied EXCEPT for the LOGON script. Its not there. I dont see any errors and cant figure out why Windows would ignore this one setting in the policy but apply the rest. I've tried deleting and recreating the policy but that does not work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to download a GIS mapping program from Purdue Univ. Seems to download to my "Dwonloads" file. When I look at the Download folder it shows an icon with correct title, but I can't see any files when I double click on it. This is not a "file folder" icon. I get an "Open file Security Warning" pop up. Shows run or cancel. Hit run it brings up "Win Zip Self Extractor" pop up. I have already supposedly unzipped this into the downloads. Have been through the issues of downloading Google Earth and think I have worked this out.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my laptop was working fine last night, woke up this morning and this issue appeared. I'm guessing it's a virus (stupidly, I haven't installed an AVP on this machine yet). Anyways, I can't open anything. Doesn't matter where I try to open the program or file from. The load icon appears but nothing happens. I also can't access the task manager or shut down/log off/etc. from the start menu, I get a "Failure to display security and shut down options" error msg. I'm in safe mode with networking right now, which is allowing me to open programs. I've already tried a system restore but it didn't solve the problem.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI have a 60GB SSD that I have my operating system on and I have a 1TB regular Hard Drive that I wanted to have all my basic programs on. Once the operating system/drivers/etc were installed on the SSD drive I changed the registry so that the default filed installation location was the 1TB drive instead (because some files/programs don't ask what location you'd like to install them to). Afterwards I restarted the computer after installing a program. Now tons of my system 32 system files/programs wont open even though they're there. I get an error message saying "Windows could not find 'C:Windowssystem32egedt32.exe' Please make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again."
This is the second time it has done this. The first time I had installed a few more programs before restarted so I thought maybe somehow I got a virus that disabled some of my registry permissions. But all this stuff I can't open IS still there, but because I changed this the ProgramDefDir registry now it can't find this stuff. After this first time when I thought it was a virus I just went ahead and reformatted and reinstalled windows, but I noticed as soon as I restarted after changing the registry the way I wanted it before, the same problem occured. So, 2 questions come from this: first, how can I fix this? i.e. changed the registry back WITHOUT the default regedit program as it wont let me use it.. second: How can I do what I want efficiently without creating this problem? i.e. OS on SSD and every other program, music, and such on the 1TB drive?
