I inadvertently stuffed the setting for "Access this computer from the network" by removing "Everyone" but not adding Authenticated Users before applying and can't login locally or remotely to my PC. For some reason there aren't any restore points either (my other PC with Windows 7 x64 Ultimate has many and I don't remember explicitly disabling or enabling on either PC).

View 0 Replies View RelatedIt seems to me that XP's recovery console is somewhat better than the one that comes with Vista or 7, unless someone can point me in the right direction for finding further documentation on this topic.
The main difference is the lack of ability to tinker with services (LISTSVC / ENABLE / DISABLE commands). A missed opportunity is the lack of registry tweaking, considering that REGEDIT can be run, but I think it only allows you to look at the registry for the recovery console rather than the main Windows installation, which doesn't help much (though I haven't tried to import/mount the registry file from the main Windows installation).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Windows 7 Build 7057 on a partition where I previously had Windows XP. I wanted this installation to wipe out the XP, but instead it created a Windows.old folder. I've deleted that folder, but now when the system starts up a black screen with three options shows up:
1. Previous Windows
2. Windows 7
3. Windows Recovery Console
This Recovery Console was installed when I had the XP, I have no idea why it's still there.
I would like to remove any traces of XP and this console so that the system can boot 7 right away.
Also, a tiny thing: for like 2 seconds a black screen with all drives attached shows up, I'd like to remove that one, too.
Could you tell me how to do it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a scenerio where I have to allow normal users on 3 tablets (windows 7) to enable and disable the wireless adaptor.They do not have a keyboard, except for the touch screen.This is only for testing, so it is temporary.I have the netsh command in a batch which will either turn off of turn on the adaptor. Problem is that these users cannot have admin rights to run the batch. I can select 'run as administrator' as a property, but that still prompts for a password.Is there a way to allow the netsh batch file to run through a local security policy, just for now?
I recently locked down a PC's with LGP. It is heavily restricted for public use.One strange problem that has cropped up is the Flash player in Firefox.I didn't install the plug-in before I locked down the user account. Afterwards I realized I hadn�t installed it so I logged on to the Admin account and installed the plug. The player now works fine when logged in as Admin or as a User with full privileges but won�t play in my locked down user account, where I still get a message saying the plug-in is not installed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI rebooted my computer today and now every time I try and bring it up it goes in to the recovery console and doesn't show that I have an operating system loaded. I have tried everything from safe mode, to last known good config, vga mode, tried repairing errors, and nothing works. I tried System Restore from the Recovery Console options but it kept reading that I must "Select an operating system in order to continue". Obviously, I can't select one if it isn't there to do so. I think my hard drive is going bad from a diagnostic test, so I need to get it booted up just long enough to create a backup so I don't lose years worth of work.

My approach has been to remove access to pretty much everything apart from IE, Firefox and Skype icons on the task bar. I've got the start menu empty apart from the shutdown button, which is what I want but at the top of the start menu is the users icon/picture thing and if i click on it it takes me to "user accounts". My computer froze while on the Internet, and when I manually shut it down and restarted it, it gave me two options. Start repair console, and start normally. When I started it normally, it froze on the windows logo. I restarted it, and tried recovery console, but it loads, then gives me an arrow with a background of blue and a bird on the right, which is windows 7's background when logging in. But it only shows this.I have tried safe mode, but that freezes on classpnp.sys and I have tried to boot from windows 7 recovery disk. I have also tried windows vista recovery disk. When the windows 7 disk booted, it loads and then asks for my country, but then again shows just a cursor.Blue screen of death error is unmountable boot volume.

When I right clicked it and opened properties, the options of enabled and disabled were grayed out. Also, there is a padlock on the icon of the Security Settings tab and so does its subtabs. I am on an administrator account but it still doesn't allow me to change the settings.

When you run the GPRESULTS on the laptop, I see the policy settings being applied EXCEPT for the LOGON script. Its not there. I dont see any errors and cant figure out why Windows would ignore this one setting in the policy but apply the rest. I've tried deleting and recreating the policy but that does not work.

While window black screen is running a blur box window comes up stating hard disk security in this screen it state it is locked. The only way to get out of this screen is to hit esc the only thing working is the F2 I can use this change settings what ever. However, none of the F12 recovery will complete.

When I manually start the .bat file the console shows, but when I start it with the windows scheduler its hidden. When I start the run.bat with a scheduled task on computer start up. The server will start and function correctly, but I don't know how to open the cmd console to type things in.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe Services console I use all the time. To go through and change everything every time is ridiculous including window size. I tried (using the hidden Admin account) choosing Author mode, un-checking the "do not save changes" check box, but the O/S won't allow change the services.msc file. I even tried to rename the file, which did save, but only limited changes were saved. W/O using a 3rd party program (which seems to be the only way anything can get changed with Windows 7), how can something that was easy (by changing the attribute) be remembered??
