View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a NAS on our network which I would like to block some remote desktop users from using. So far I tried creating a two custom inbound/outbound rules to block the ip address but it does not seem to have any effect - anyway I don't think there is a way to apply it to specific users.
Another thing I have done via MMC Management Console is follwed the guide here (XP but similar enough to follow for 7) [URL]
Basically, created a IP security policy to block the ip address under "IP Security policies" snap in. This works but unfortunately cant see how to apply it to specific users only.

When joining a set of laptops to the domain it prompts for domain admin credentials and appears to be successful, but gives an error of 'Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to " " failed. The name will remain domain.local The error was: The RPC Server is unavailable.
When attempting to add Domain Users to the local administrators group: Windows cannot process the object with the name "domain users" because of the following error: The RPC server is unavailable.
This happens even when wired on the network. I have tried uncommenting the localhost line in HOSTS, and manually adding the DNS server (which is also the DC).
when I have more than one user logged in, I open the Task Manager, User Label, and when I try to connect to the other user it gives me the #1327 Error. Is there a way to solve this without adding a password to the accounts?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI took out my Windows 7 boot drive and put it inside of a USB enclosure and when I try and go to my profile, I can't open Users folder on other computer. I don't have an administrator account on this other computer. Is there any way to open up the folder? It just says access denied when I try and open it up on a windows xp computer with no ADMIN privileges (I can't get admin on this computer).
On a XP computer that has admin it opens fine. I figured since I actually wasn't using the OS that was on the drive I wouldn't have any trouble reading any folders on it (but I guess that because it's NTFS there are more security measures, unlike FAT32 which would let anybody read anything). Would I just need to open up the folder on a computer with admin and then copy the things over while I still have admin.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi'm having recurring problems with PC freezing. I originally though it was when the PC went into stand-by, but turned that off and issue continued. Ctrl+Alt+del : get error message saying task manager not able to open, turn off using power switch. As nothing responds that is what I do. Checked anti-virus, and have run various scans, no problems reported. I have tried using different web browsers and the problem even occurred even when no browser open. Music continued playing until end of track. Have updated drivers, no overheating problems, PC 1 year old; MB: ASRock H67DE3; CPU: intel i5 2500; 8Go RAM; Windows 7 64-bits; ssd 64 Go (14.5 Go free); 1 To SATA 6Gb/s hard drive (840 Go free). View 0 Replies View RelatedI have an alienware X51 with windows 7 and I tried hooking my 5.1 surround sound system to it. But for some reason when I set it up as 5.1 surround sound only my front speakers are working (yet when I actually test it using the realtek driver all the speakers work). After days of research I found out that I needed the updated driver for realtek (which has additional settings to fix the surround sound conflict). So I downloaded the driver, installed it and now for some reason when I try to open the audio manager it does not open. I checked my control panel and it shows that the driver is installed. I also have the icon on the bottom left. But when I try clicking it, it doesnt open.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been dealing with this issue for a few weeks now. The message that comes up when I try to open CCC is: "Could not load file or assembly 'CCC.Implementation' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." I've tried everything to fix this. I've followed step by step, about a dozen different guides all over the internet on how to fix this issue, but with no luck. My last resort, today, was to reformat my entire hard drive and do a fresh install of windows 7. I was flabbergasted when I still received the error. I have also tried multiple GPU's, so I know it is not a hardware problem, at least I do not think so. My reason for wanting to open CCC is because I just bought another 4890 for crossfire on Ebay but I can't even enable crossfire to get it working.I should also say that the performance of the single 4890 is perfect, so it is running as it should be[CODE]

Not a major problem -- more of a minor irritation and an "I wonder if anyone else has struck this...?"
Whenever installing a program lately (can't remember how long -- I've been ignoring it for a while), Windows doesn't respond when I click the .exe installer file. But as soon as I hit Ctrl - Alt - Del and open the Task Manager, Windows suddenly wakes up and installs the program without a hitch. I don't have to do anything in Task Manager; simply opening it is enough. Also, the computer hasn't crashed in this state. If I want to open another already-installed program and use it, I can without any problems. It's just that it completely ignores my command to run the .exe file until I threaten it with Task Manager.
The first couple of times, before I thought of opening Task Manager, I'd double click the .exe file several thousand times, as you do, wondering why it wasn't doing anything. Then, when I opened the Task Manager, it'd try to install the program several thousand times. Now I know to simply double click the .exe file, then hit Ctrl - Alt - Del, and voila, the program is installed.
What I want to know is, why doesn't Windows install the program in the first place?
FYI, the programs I was having trouble with were (from memory) Dropbox, Skype, memoQ (translation memory software) and a few others I can't remember. I doubt that the programs were the problem though. I'm pretty sure this is a Windows problem.
I just noticed that I cannot open my task manager anymore, I right clicked on my task bar and click on Start task manager and nothing happens, did also the CTRL + ALT + DEL then click on Start task manager still nothing, no recent changes made in computer or newly installed programs.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new custom built gaming PC and it works fine in terms of performance. I've had the PC for just over a week and on two occasions I have had the problem where the PC would just completely freeze to the extent that I can't open task manager, move the mouse and the keyboard would stop working. Also the Skype call I was in would just stop. This would force me to have to reboot my PC using the button on the tower to shut it down. So far the two occasions have happened when I'm not actually on a game and when the problems did happen I was using two different programs. The first occasion I was on OpenOffice and the second occasion. I was just browsing using Firefox so I don't think it is program specific.
Here are my specs:
Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.4ghz
8gb 1333mhz ram
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
Gainward GTX 660ti
Asus P8Z77-V LX Motherboard

The first crash happened two days after owning the new pc, the second crash happened today. Is there anyway I could access a crash log?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering, as I'm not that familiar with intermediate features of non-NOS windows releases. I noticed that when you log into different computers on the home network, they are still prefixed with a domain (the computer name/hostname). Is there a way to put all of my home computers on the same "domain" ? Of course, I mean to do this without the use of a server/domain controller.
I know that windows 7 has homegroups,ut i'm not sure if this will work the same way.
I am looking for an extension that would allow me to create, save and load tab groups for folders. Right now I am using the QTTab extension for Windows Explorer, which adds tabs. The problem is if I accidentally close the window or the computer has to do a restart, I lose all the tabs. I have to hunt down each folder again and open them up in their own tab.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using Contact Groups on previous computer, but when I moved over to my new PC and loaded Office 2010 along with Outlook, the contacts groups in OUtlook does not seem to work.
None of the groups I had before were imported, although I have imported all of the contacts themselves.
When I create a new Contact Group it seems to be fine - it allows me to create it, add some contacts, and save it. But, I go to create an email and want to use the contact group, nothing will come up as a group. Also, when I look directly into contacts folder there are no groups there.
I am running Windows 7 Pro and know how to work the group policy. Is there any way I can assign options to a specific group that I created?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed a new 64 gig SSD in my computer. I also have a 2T secondary hard drive. The SSD is not big enough to contain all the stuff that will eventually be in "My documents",i.e. under "users" so I need to move the users directory to my secondary hard drive but havewindows behave as it were in its original location.I did some research and found the following technique which seemed plausible (and several people said it worked for them)
1. Install windows normally.
2. After install, boot from installation disk.
3. Get into the command prompt by clicking "repair".
4. Use robocopy to copy c:users to d:users. The command line should be: robocopy c:users d:users /mir /xj /copyall
5. Verify all files copied successfully.
6. Delete c:users. Command line should be: rmdir /s /q c:users
7. Delete c:documents and settings. Command line should be: rmdir "c:documents and settings"
8. Create junction to new users directory. Command line should be: mklink /j c:users d:users
9. Create junction for the old "documents and settings". Command line should be: mkdir /j "c:documents and settings" d:users
10. Restart computer.
Note:When in recovery mode the disk drives end up with different drive letters than what the normally have.Consequently my SSD drive which is "C" became "E" and my hard drive which is "D" became "C". Confusing, but I adjusted the above commands to reflect this. All seemed to go well until I rebooted. The computer booted up fine, but when I entered my password to log in windows complained that it could not find my profile. Since I could not log in at all I was forced to re-install windows. Supposedly, this is doable and I NEED to do it asap as my SSD will not hold all the stuff that will eventually be in "users".
I am cleaning a laptop out and i created a brand new user name. I deleted the other 2 users using the control passwords2.
So the machine starts and i select the user. Process usage is very high and it says 50, but actual user shows about 9. I click show processes from all users and i find the culprit as well as 50 processes. I deleted the users so there shouldnt be that option.
Why is there more processes if this is the only user, why does it even have the option?
What are the all users and default users folders? Do I need them or can I delete them if I am the only user.
