I have recurring "not responding" programs in Win 7. The affected programs are MS Office, Cad programs, Photoshop, etc. I tested my ram and all is good. Processor and temps are all excellent. Hard drive has no bad sectors. All drivers have been updated. Problem usually (but not always) goes away after reboot. Velocity Micro running Win 7 64, 8 GB ram, Intel core i7 870, nvidia gx 275.

I've had some issues with video drivers lately
Out of nowhere I received messages saying that multiple appdata local files were corrupt and then all programs became non-responsive or would start but became non-responding after a few seconds. I ran chkdsk and after some time it finished repairing the errors. However, now my system gave me 4 warnings saying that none of my security features were working. I use AVG Internet Security 2012. When I click on the AVG Icons or try and repair by clicking on the warnings, nothing happens.I have read that I should reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate to solve the problem. Sadly I did not partition my hard drive went I built the PC, and of course I do not want to lose any programs, files, etc. So what are my best options?
1. Back up my hard drive and bring everything back over once Windows in reinstalled?
2. Buy an SSD drive for one of my extra bays and install Windows 7 Ult there? Is this even an option since I already have Windows 7 Ult on my PC?
3. Is it possible to partition the drive and move Windows to this section? Then reinstall Windows without affecting other programs and files?

A colleague of mine using the 64bit version of Windows 7 Enterprise has been having this problem for the past day or so. No matter what program he's using, as soon as he clicks print, the program stops responding. This even happens if you try to print a test page - Windows Explorer stops responding. It's not printer specific, since this happens before you have the option to select a printer (and he has several, one local printer and a few network printers). I've tried running the troubleshooting tool, but all that does is restart the print spooler, which doesn't stop the problem.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'll start out with my PC's specs: Intel i3 processor, 4GB memory, 500GB HDD, onboard sound and video.Recently, I have been receiving the "Not responding" error in multiple programs, in addition to a lot of hangs throughout the system. For example, if I use a web browser for an hour, it probably happens 4-5 times. This happens in both IE9 and Chrome, and it appears to be random. It doesn't matter if I have 10 programs and 5 tabs open or just the browser with 1 tab. Also, sometimes it will hang if I'm simply dragging icons on the desktop around with no programs open.
Some more potentially helpful information is that I can open every single program I have pinned to my taskbar at the same time (I have 10) and they will all open with awesome speed, no hangs, no problems at all.I at first thought it was registry issues, so I downloaded CCleaner and ran both the system cleaner and the registry cleaner, and it has helped none. I desperately need this issue fixed. I use my laptop for everything, including taking notes for my college classes, and the hanging hinders this a lot
My laptop has suddenly slowed down considerably. I've run eset online scanner and scanned with my antivirus Trend Micro Titanium and found nothing at all. I've tried running Ccleaner and using the registry cleaner. I've also tried defragmenting my hdd but nothing is working. Overall its is generally slow but alot of the time Windows explorer freezes and stops responding and needs restarting.I have an asus K55VD notebook with Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1, quad core i7 processor, 8gb ram, 2gb dedicated graphics and over 200gb of free space on my hdd. If it makes any difference I have windows 8 installed on a separate partition although problems didn't start when I installed it.
View 14 Replies View RelatedUsing Windows 7-Ultimate 64 on an Acer 4530 laptop. This is a personal machine and is not networked except via wifi to my router, and via BT to a single printer. I leave the printer and BT off unless I have to print something, as I don't print daily.
Problem: When I go to print a Word doc (for example) there are multiple instances of printers named like this:
Canon Printer
Canon Printer (Copy 1)
Canon Printer (Copy 2)
Many times I have gone into Printer & Devices and removed all instances of the Copies, making the "Canon Printer" entry the only one, and set as default... but the next time I go to print (which might be a week later), I have multiple instances again.
How can I stop Windows 7 from creating copies of my printer profile?
When I have multiple windows open [i.e. outlook is open with 4 emails open as well] and I hover over the Outlook folder in the toolbar which then shows previews of all the emails, I want the ability to close a single email and keep the others previewed. Right now, if I close one, the other open ones "auto minimize" I know this is an option as I've seen it operated the way I want it.

When i'm using my system, usually while using Ableton Live 8 (but not at all limited to), my mouse and keyboard stop responding. The system is still working, if for instance a song is playing then it will continue to do so, etc. I just can't move my mouse and can't do anything with my keyboard. Restarting fixes the issue. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now. Today, a new symptom: while doing normal browsing my mouse freezes for just about a second. Then I hear the same sound you hear when you connect a new device into any usb port. And then the mouse works again.

I had to do a hard reboot. These happend after playing half an hour or so.After some time passed, computer started to give me bsods with often about nvlddmkm.sys or sometimes -rarely- PFN_LIST_CORRUPTED. After these bsods, i started to crash after 10 secs of play. have tried couple of things to solve these bsods such as reinstalling nvidia driver, removing some bad drivers but for no good. The problem happens randomly (I haven't managed to nail down a pattern when it happens or replicate it). Let's say it happens when running full-screen applications (games n stuff)Without warning everything that's connected through a USB stops working. Mouse and Keyboard are in usb 3 slots (and are compatible) and headset in usb2 port. The devices are powered still normally and the computer still functions (for example, game of LoL still continues normally, I can see what other players do or type etc etc, but the usb devices are unresponsive - though powered)

View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently I have been having this problem where my PS/2 keyboard and mouse both stop responding. The lights are still on, but neither work. Sometimes it happens just to my mouse, and not the keyboard, but usually both. When it happens, they are not responding for anywhere from a few seconds, to a few minutes (but by that point I restart the computer). If it happens just to the mouse, putting the computer to sleep using the keyboard and wakening it again fixes the problem.
I have tried to update the drivers in device manager by letting windows search for them online, but it says they are up-to-date. I also checked all the connections inside the computer, unplugging and re-plugging each one as well as air-dusting.
EDIT: If I can't find a fix, I think I will just purchase a USB mouse and keyboard, but I'd rather try fix the problem first.
I have been trying to resolve some BSOD I got on my PC. To do this I also re-installed windows several times. I build and install everything by myself for years, but this is the first PC with a lot of BSODs. I used the Debugging Tool for windows to check the minidumps by myself, but as far as my knowledge goes, I didn't find anything special in there. The only thing that was obvious was that in all BSODs the ntoskrnl.exe was involved. This was something BlueScreenView revealed also. In my opinion however it seems there is more to it, since the ntoskrnl.exe could probably also crash because of another driver or hardware problem.On my previous fresh Windows 7 Install I did found out once that alot of BSOD I had at that time were caused by a bad Creative driver for my X-Fi. On the web I found a useful hint, because other X-Fi users pointed to the beta-drivers for the card. The official Creative drivers are almost two years older then these beta drivers, so obviously the beta drivers should be the first choice. These drivers are the ones I use now. I also had some problem with my OCZ Vertex 3 MI, like most owners of this hardware, and the problem was the unstable firmware. I am using the latest firmware now, which is 2.15, and that made the system alot more stable. The third problem is happening in POST: my logitech G110 keyboard features an USB hub and connection for media. These kind of USB keyboards had some problem with recognision and initialisation in the UEFI BIOS. For that I also updated to the latest BIOS for my motherboard.
All in all you can see I discovered and tried to fix a lot of different causes for BSODs. I also ran memtest once on the system for two hours, but this was in Dual Channel setup. Didn't gave any errors anyway.The latest minidump is created by the use of Verifier. I turned verifier on to test the two drivers for my AMD HD6970(crossfired). After 5 minutes in windows the BSOD appeared. I am using AMD Catalyst 12.1 drivers. I tried this, because the BSODs all are different then the ones I had on previous Windows 7 installations (on the same pc), but the only thing I changed in the current installation, was the AMD 12.1 drivers.I reinstalled windows about two weeks ago, after using Secure Erase on my SSD. I installed only the latest drivers for all the things that need drivers. The complete installation, including windows updates and drivers, was without any fault. One day later the first BSOD appeared, etc. I use the system to play Battlefield 3 only, since the fresh install. Strangely, I played more then 50 hours in the game, without any crash or BSOD! The new AMD FX-8150 processor is the first to support native 1866 MHz DDR3. The motherboard specification showed that the board supported 1866 (OC), thus it's seen as an overclock. I set all settings in bios like the ram specificiation told, which is: 9-11-9-27 2T @1.65V. Still, it could be that the 1866 MHz is too much on standard NB voltages? It's something I couldn't find an answer to on the internet, and since I never overclock I don't have that much experience with the voltages.
All BSODs happened in different situations, like just after windows log in, or when I start a program, or when idling, or when browsing the internet.Since I couldn't figure out any more usefull details out of the minidumps, I hope someone here with more experience could check the attached files.

My browsers also stop responding and crashes (usually with java or flashplayer) I have updated all java`s and flashplayers btw.I monitored my pc using afterburner (did no clocking whats so ever, was at default) and all temparatures where normal - at 30C on idle and around 50-60C while gaming.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just started up my Laptop (Sony Vaio 2.6GHz | 4GB RAM | ATI Radeon | Windows 7 Home Premium) and none of the programs on my laptop are responding when I click on them to start them. Not even Windows Explorer opens. Nothing responds. I can open the windows start button, but that is about it. The PC is still under warranty, so it's quite new (4months). I also take great care of it, I do not load all sorts of crap on it. Only the essentials.
It all started yesterday, when my PC became really slow and I had to restart it, where it literally took 10 minutes too shut down (NO windows updates being installed...). I restarted it, ran a check disc for bad sectors, and it found none. Only a few bad clusters. I also ran - sfc /scannow command in cmd. However, when I open some of the programs (non windows system programs such as explorer and task manager), it gives me the following error: "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
libreoffice 3.5 crashes all the time and says "not responding".steam has crashed saying the same thing.Chrome and file explorer are fine though.I have been using a new SSD for a while now (OS installed on this) and have had no problems until 2 and half weeks later. Just installed spybot search and destroy recently also.Programs Not Responding - general-discussion - windows-7.And used the solution where I remove a RAM stick and set the BIOS to default settings. This worked for about 45 minutes (longer than usual) and then the same problems occurred again.Then tried uninstalling avira antivirus - no use.Un-installed spybot to see if that was it, but could not reverse changes it made (advised when un-installing) as it said their were no changes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using window 7 pro. with MS office 10 and other non Microsoft programs. On Monday while I was updating my iPhone OS using ITunes, ITunes gave me an error message stating that it lost connection with my iPhone. I rebooted the Laptop and too many problems started to pop up since then. For starters, my iPhone was wiped out, where the only way to restore it was by going to the Apple store. Now, ITunes gives me Error 50?! The Apple Store tech avers that ITunes has nothing to do with the problem.
Since then, the majority of my programs are not working those that run require my permission to execute including Windows components such as control panel, security, uninstall, program install, etc. Excel and MS Word are working, but Outlook, Outlook safe mode, OneNote, ITunes, Skype, Adobe, windows troubleshoot, McAfee, Chrome, etc. are not working. They all missing important files or give me an error message. In contrast, I created a new user account without Administrative right. I can run all programs without any problems using this account, except for having to reconfigure everything all over again and having to provide an administrator's permission virtually after every click. I ran chkdsk, desk defragment and McAfee scans from the new user's account and all ran flawlessly and reported that my system is clean with no virus or bad sectors. I have 180 GB of free space. Note: I broke the screen on my lap top, and I used the HD in an exterior HD shell to retrieve some files while I was waiting on my LCD replacement. I had no issues before hand. The ITunes problem started after I reinstalled the HD in the Laptop.
All of a sudden my screen was black. my background , wallpaper are gone.I can change it to a different but I can't get my old background back. When I try to reset them , it goes black. I didn't do anything to it that I can think of.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop was left on yesterday with numerous firefox tabs open (x20) for various websites, although no one was using the computer and this is a regular occurrence without fault until yesterday. I'd gone out fishing and noticed the BSOD and took this photo of the screen showing the full error as "stop 0x0000007A (0xc0487688, 0x3e5898c0, 0x96ed7e3e)"
I had altered the BSOD settings in the past to stop the laptop from restarting in order to have time to take note of the error codes in case of future failures, although I hadn't had any BSOD for over a year. The previous BSOD's were 0x000000d1 (netwLv32.sys) and 0x0000007e (Volsnap.sys), unlike those BSOD's, the one shown in the photo doesn't have a description other than the error code.
I had turned off the laptop while in BSOD, having completed dumping physical memory; subquent restarts were only reaching here followed promptly by a black screen with the flashing white underscore, which I could escape by alt+Ctrl+delete. At one point the laptop did load and somehow I was able to access System recovery options and selected startup repair, which I viewed the log prior to restarting and everything completed successfully and although I did restart the computer, I haven't been able to proceed further than the initial loading window or the defaulting black screen that follows.
I've tried running the BIOS setup utility, with the hard disk self test diagnostics, though this failed each time.
Not able to provide any debug logs until I can proceed further. Have the windows 7 back up DVD disc, but not sure if my DVD drive is playing up, as when I push ESC and enter into the boot menu selecting the Atapi cd/DVD rom drive, it only goes to the prior mentioned black screen and remains there long after 5 mins. The disc drive is heard to be working if the disc is within, though nothing results on the screen. I had recalled some difficulty prior to this BSOD with the CD/DVD rom, having decided it was either only a driver or possibly registry error or required itunes reinstall, as afterwards having successfully read a music cd with itunes.
I don't think I have the windows recovery discs or system restore discs, as I tried some I thought were these, but nothing occurred and I figure they must be from when I tested the windows 7 beta or W7RC or such. So only have the legit Windows 7 back up disc (32 & 64 bits), which I was running 32 bit. Only twice has it shown up "Press any key to boot from disc", although there was no response and it doesn't always reach this prompt.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn Windows 7 I have no problem selecting multiple files in a normal folder for example. The problem is when using a program (such as Freestar AMR MP3 Converter) I cannot select multiple files at once. This can make using the program extremely tedious and time-consuming if there are large numbers of files to convert. It is not just this one program that does it, because other programs also fail to allow me to select multiple files. Again, I must state that this only seems to happen when using certain programs and not generally in Windows 7. Also, a small unrelated question: how do I get out of 'Libraries' view in My Documents and basically disable the Libraries view permanently, and just have it normal like in all earlier versions of Windows?
