View 2 Replies View RelatedOut of nowhere I received messages saying that multiple appdata local files were corrupt and then all programs became non-responsive or would start but became non-responding after a few seconds. I ran chkdsk and after some time it finished repairing the errors. However, now my system gave me 4 warnings saying that none of my security features were working. I use AVG Internet Security 2012. When I click on the AVG Icons or try and repair by clicking on the warnings, nothing happens.I have read that I should reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate to solve the problem. Sadly I did not partition my hard drive went I built the PC, and of course I do not want to lose any programs, files, etc. So what are my best options?
1. Back up my hard drive and bring everything back over once Windows in reinstalled?
2. Buy an SSD drive for one of my extra bays and install Windows 7 Ult there? Is this even an option since I already have Windows 7 Ult on my PC?
3. Is it possible to partition the drive and move Windows to this section? Then reinstall Windows without affecting other programs and files?
I just started up my Laptop (Sony Vaio 2.6GHz | 4GB RAM | ATI Radeon | Windows 7 Home Premium) and none of the programs on my laptop are responding when I click on them to start them. Not even Windows Explorer opens. Nothing responds. I can open the windows start button, but that is about it. The PC is still under warranty, so it's quite new (4months). I also take great care of it, I do not load all sorts of crap on it. Only the essentials.
It all started yesterday, when my PC became really slow and I had to restart it, where it literally took 10 minutes too shut down (NO windows updates being installed...). I restarted it, ran a check disc for bad sectors, and it found none. Only a few bad clusters. I also ran - sfc /scannow command in cmd. However, when I open some of the programs (non windows system programs such as explorer and task manager), it gives me the following error: "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".

libreoffice 3.5 crashes all the time and says "not responding".steam has crashed saying the same thing.Chrome and file explorer are fine though.I have been using a new SSD for a while now (OS installed on this) and have had no problems until 2 and half weeks later. Just installed spybot search and destroy recently also.Programs Not Responding - general-discussion - windows-7.And used the solution where I remove a RAM stick and set the BIOS to default settings. This worked for about 45 minutes (longer than usual) and then the same problems occurred again. Then tried uninstalling avira antivirus - no use.Un-installed spybot to see if that was it, but could not reverse changes it made (advised when un-installing) as it said their were no changes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recurring "not responding" programs in Win 7. The affected programs are MS Office, Cad programs, Photoshop, etc. I tested my ram and all is good. Processor and temps are all excellent. Hard drive has no bad sectors. All drivers have been updated. Problem usually (but not always) goes away after reboot. View 9 Replies View RelatedQuite frequently windows or a program will stop responding, locking up my computer. I was running a /verifyonly, and at 30% it stopped. A few minutes later the following error presented itself.
mcagent.exe - Application Error
The instruction at 0xe7bcdcd5 referred to memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read.
I've had some issues with video drivers lately
A colleague of mine using the 64bit version of Windows 7 Enterprise has been having this problem for the past day or so. No matter what program he's using, as soon as he clicks print, the program stops responding. This even happens if you try to print a test page - Windows Explorer stops responding. It's not printer specific, since this happens before you have the option to select a printer (and he has several, one local printer and a few network printers). I've tried running the troubleshooting tool, but all that does is restart the print spooler, which doesn't stop the problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am finding often that when I am running programs that even whilst they are running I get a response at the top of the program especially when I use Pro Tools say that it is not responding. I have adjusted my hard drives so that they don't go to sleep after a set period so why is it that I am constantly receiving this error?
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs i write this my Firefox has stopped like 8 times from the time i opened Firefox. my programs stop for like a min and then continue like nothing happened. i used avg virus scan and used malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy and no threats are found. i play world of warcraft the game also freezes or use any programs they freeze for less then a minute and then it starts to run again. i can still minimize the application and my mouse moves around.
im running windows 7 on an Asus M3A32-MVP DELUXE
AMD Phenom II x4 940
8 gigs of ram
Radeon hd 4890 graphics card
I'm getting constant not responding errors in almost all programs, everything from Firefox to Photoshop and Lightroom to simply accessing various folders on my drives (both internal and external). The majority of the time the program hangs for up to 30 seconds and says Not Responsing and then works again. In Photoshop and Lightroom however, I have to restart the programs, they never start responding again. AVG and malwarebytes haven't picked up anything.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have installed Windows 7 RTM and everything is working just great for more then a month. But now I am experiencing some problems when I am installing larger programs or games. When installation starts, the system starts to freeze and I cant even normally switch windows or browse on internet. This lasts until the installation is complete, then everything comes back to normal. The same thing is happening on my laptop.
Does anyone know why and how can I resolve this problem?
what could cause programs to become responsive and slow down, even though my memory usage is only about 50%?
I have an i5-2430 @ 2.0Ghz, 5GB RAM, win7 64bit, AMD Radeon 6650M 2.0GB RAM graphics card.
My machine slows down when i try to run 2 specific programs simultaneously, viz. pokerstars and holdem manager 2. I've had a guy from the software company have a look and he's not sure what the problem is either.
I am having big trouble with different programs "freezing" up for about 10-30 sec very often. I have looked to see if it was my RAM causing this, but that doesnt seem to be the case as they are pretty stable and not working max.
I have been searching through the forum and found this which looks like my problem, however haven't solved my problem:

For some reason, any and all windows/programs randomly stop responding and even attempts to restart or shutdown fail to complete?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion DV6-6009TX, I bought it last year during april. Initially, it was doing ok, but starting this year around February, the programs that I launch seems to be not responding every now and then. Even microsoft word, it freezes for a good 10-20 seconds everytime I save a document, and when I type halfway, it will stop responding and resume after around 15 seconds. The problem is even worst when I try to play games. The game will spike every 5 seconds, making it unplayable. What is wrong with my laptop?
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy laptop screen was broken by being steped on over a year ago. It worked through my tv though with HDMI connection. Out of no where it stopped projecting image to my tv even though when I unpluged or pluged in the cable it would make noise and the screen would flash. This was in august. So I stopped using it and let the battery completely die and sit there dead as this corrected other problems in the past (such as a nasty pop up virus. So I found and RGB-PC cable and have hooked it up to my TV that way.Well now that I can see the screen I have tried to use it and it is constantly freezing every program it uses and will last for a long time including task manager. It has rendered the computer un-usable. I have run a virus scan, disk clean and defrag and it still won't work. I also checked the event viewer and the system log wouldn't open. So I saved and cleared it as per advice on this site. Still the same.
NOTE: When HDMI crashed the computer was turned off using the power button a few times as I could not see anything. Also on one of the boot ups when this problem started to occur and instead of the regular safe mode screen option coming up the other screen came up (something about doing a scan and fixing it) and I guess it timed out or I hit no or something but windows just booted up and haven't been able to use the laptop properlky since. Not sure if its related but figured it was worth mentioning
My Asus computer will not allow me to access any Internet based programs once windows has loaded

My Internet Explorer and Real Player programs stop responding on almost a daily basis.I'm wondering if these problems are hurting my computer because i just got it fixed and how to stop them from happening again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedShould be a relatively fast machine takes forever to start-up / load apps. For example, 9:10 from power on to loading Outlook. I've tried everything I could think of -- CCleaner, alwarebytes, disk cleanup / optimization, sfc / scannow, pruning down any startup items, power set to max performance, triple-checking all drivers are up to date, etc. Once the system is "warmed up" and I'm using it constantly, everything is fine -- quick, responsive, etc. If I leave for 10 min or more and come back, even though nothing has been set to power down / go to sleep, programs (already open) don't respond, etc., until the system "warms up" again. On startup / initial launches, and when coming back to the computer, CPU usage never gets very high (watching the CPU Usage gadget or Task Manager). My wife's computer, a slightly slower Dell bought at the same time and configured the same way, doesn't have any of these problems. (Mine is a Studio XPS 7100 Phenom II X4 820, 12G)

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the past couple of days my computer has been freezing every time I open a new program or go to click on something. Using itunes is especially problematic because i will be listening to music and every thirty seconds the music will stop and continue, etc. I use Avast! free for protection and I have done every scan without them finding a virus, however they do get a couple of files they cannot scan and each time they are different files. I am not very tech savvy so I have no clue how to go about searching for the fix, however while searching through google i did find a lot of people had this problem with windows xp.
I own a Sony Vaio VPCEG32FX/W and have 142 GB used memory.
Programs i have installed are Photoshop CS5, Finale Notepad, Itunes, Last.fm, Firefox, Windows Live Messenger, The Sims 3, Avast!, Avidemux 2.5, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Winrar, and VLC mediaplayer
I was using a program called NoLimits and Google Chrome on my Windows 7 computer. After about 30 minutes or so, all the programs was not responding.
After about 5 minutes or so, the screen shook and lines were on it. After that, I got the Blue Screen Of Death.
I restarted the computer. After the dell logo and below your computer type (Inspiron, Inspiron One etc), (before you see the Windows Error Recovery screen) I got an error message that said "A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reRECOVERY."
When I press Ctrl, Alt and Delete, The computer restarts and I get the same error message. Then, I have to shut down the computer and leave it off for at least an hour.
After an hour, I turned on the computer and I did not get the error message. After I logged in, I scanned for viruses, spyware and malware with the latest versions of all my antivirus programs and no was found. I tried everything I could do and none of them worked. I am posting this thread on my iMac computer with Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.7.
I'll start out with my PC's specs: Intel i3 processor, 4GB memory, 500GB HDD, onboard sound and video.Recently, I have been receiving the "Not responding" error in multiple programs, in addition to a lot of hangs throughout the system. For example, if I use a web browser for an hour, it probably happens 4-5 times. This happens in both IE9 and Chrome, and it appears to be random. It doesn't matter if I have 10 programs and 5 tabs open or just the browser with 1 tab. Also, sometimes it will hang if I'm simply dragging icons on the desktop around with no programs open.
Some more potentially helpful information is that I can open every single program I have pinned to my taskbar at the same time (I have 10) and they will all open with awesome speed, no hangs, no problems at all.I at first thought it was registry issues, so I downloaded CCleaner and ran both the system cleaner and the registry cleaner, and it has helped none. I desperately need this issue fixed. I use my laptop for everything, including taking notes for my college classes, and the hanging hinders this a lot
Programs randomly go "Not Responding" for anywhere from 2 seconds, to a minute. It mostly happens on games that I play including League of Legends, audio would stutter and/or be delayed at times, my mouse will still be move-able, but I can't click on anything in the game, everything just freezes. I can alt+tab during this to exit the game and do whatever I want, other programs will be fine in the meantime during this. I've had this problem for several months, looked on multiple sites for answers, couldn't find anything that helped. I system restored my PC twice, Scanned for virus's, used malwarebytes and norton security (just installed yesterday), can't seem to find a fix. I have no idea if it's a problem with windows 7 or if it's a hardware issue. I've read a bunch on it and everything says something different. Looking for someone to help me with my problem because nothing seems to work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo over the past few days it seems that I have lost control of my C drive and all of its contents.I can no longer properly access it, and everything opens in "Read-Only". I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.
