Make Aero Peek Button A Show Desktop Button?
Aug 4, 2011I only learnt about this a couple of weeks ago!If you want to make the Aero Peek button at the far right of your Taskbar into a plain and simple Show Desktop button:Simply right-click the Aero Peek button and un-check the "Peek at desktop" option. Et Voila!! That's it!

Aug 20, 2012I'm new here, and I registered because I wanted to ask; Is it possible to make the "Show Desktop" button smaller? The problem is, when I re-installed windows on my laptop, that button is bigger than usual >.< , and It just looks ugly.

Show Desktop Button Hides All Gadgets
Sep 30, 2010Anytime I click the Show Desktop button at the bottom-right in Windows 7, it shows me the desktop, BUT my sidebar gadgets all disappear. They all re-appear as soon as I un-minimize anything on my taskbar. Rebooting doesn't change this behavior. If the problem isn't clear, here's more of a step-by-step of what's happening:
-I have a few Google Chrome windows up, let's say.
-I *hover* over the Show Desktop button, and it shows my desktop, and my sidebar gadgets are all there. No problem so far.
-I *click* on the Show Desktop button, and it shows the desktop, *and* the sidebar gadgets are suddenly gone, as if the sidebar has also been hidden in order to show the desktop.
-Let's say I click on the Start menu and open sound recorder...The sidebar gadgets re-appear at this point. Likewise if I restore one of the windows that's minimized on the taskbar.

Aug 21, 2010Every so often i find that my desktop icons have moved from where i positioned them. The right click menu for auto arrange icons and align to grid are both unticked. My wife uses PC as well but she doesnt move them!I dont understand how Windows 7 might be moving them! i have AVG free, Spyware doctor and WIN 7 firewall all operating and never usually have any probs but theres a worry in the back of my mind that it could be an infection that is causing this as a "joke" virus.?

Jan 15, 2013I have a desktop computer. It has a phenom x6 1045t, 4 gigs of ram, an hd 6870, and a 530 watt psu, running windows 7. A month ago, it was running perfectly here in my dorm room. I went on winter break and drove it home with me. It was running perfectly there, too. I have just come back to school from winter break and I cannot get it to start properly. Literally NOTHING has changed with the hardware since about 4 months ago, when I first upgraded my video card to the 6870. It is plugged into the same surge protector in the same outlet it was a month ago, when it was last here. Here's what happens when I try to start it: It goes through the initial ASUS booting screen, then onto the starting windows screen. Then, out of nowhere, my monitor says it's "going to sleep," the lights on my keyboard flash, and it restarts the booting cycle. However, if I tell it to boot into safe mode, it starts without any issues. I need some help identifying the problem here. My first thought was a power issue, but again, it worked fine a few days ago, and it was working fine in these outlets before. I was very gentle in the move, so i doubt the PSU was damaged. The fans are all spinning and the LEDs still come on. Hard drive must be fine, otherwise it wouldn't work in safe mode. Ran a memory test, RAM is fine too.
Additional info: Actually, it successfully started yesterday too, in my dorm room. I used it for about half an hour then let it hibernate, and only now am I having issues. Also, the fan on my video card was going crazy, but after I re-seated it, it calmed down. I rechecked all the wiring as well and everything seems fine.

Due to this, I don't have my icons set to be aligned to any sort of grid, I just move them where I want, making it frustrating to move them back into place. Now, I notice that from time to time some of the icons or folders on my desktop will be out of the place I put them in, and will have moved themselves back to the place they were prior to moving them into the place I want them to be. Dec 28, 2012I originally only had a HDD for my computer with Windows 7 on it. I got a 180 GB Intel SSD today and installed Windows 7 on it. When I installed I made sure to unplug the data cable on the HDD. After everything was installed I plugged the HDD in and made sure it booted the SSD in the BIOS.
I went into the HDD to open Steam thinking that it would open fine. It wanted me to update everything so I went ahead and did that. Then I noticed a ton of random icons on my desktop. I realized all of these were from the Steam folder. I have no idea why they're on my desktop. When I try to delete them off my desktop it won't let me, saying Steam is using it. Is there something I have to do to make my SSD and HDD work together?
Also with Steam; after I updated it none of my games were installed. They are all installed on the HDD but when I try to click on a game it wants me to install it again. One more thing, whenever I open a program in the HDD it wants to update and install it into the SSD
A Wallpaper Changing Button On Desktop?

Moving Hard Drive From One System To New Desktop?
Mar 24, 2012I had Dell XPS 8300 Desktop & had bought & Installed Windows-7 ( Ultimate ) on it's 500 GB HDD.I gave that system to my relative except Hard Drive.Now I bought Dell T-7500 Workstation with only DOS installed on it's hard drive to save some money & because I already have Windows-7 ( Ultimate ) DVD.I took out the hard drive with DOS from the workstation & replaced it with the hard drive that I had in XPS with Win-7 already installed.I then tried to boot it in the workstation but it wouldn't boot & gave error messages.So I formatted the OS Partition & fresh installed Windows-7. Now it does load Windows -7 but first it goes thru some other commands as follows when I start the system.

Sep 23, 2012All my desktop icons are missing, no start button or task bar.The only way I can access my computer is via safe mode.Two things happened this morning so I am not sure which one is the culprit. Dec 24, 2011I have a Toshiba Satallite with Windows 7 installed. I now have no start button, windows task bar and all of my desktop icons have gone missing.
When I restart the laptop (via CTRL + ALT + DEL) I see all of the missing items listed for about 10 seconds...then they all disappear. What I have left is my personalised background image (my cute 2 month old nephew with my sunglasses) and a windows explorer window. Nothing else.
So far I have managed to access my Virus protection software (AVG) and run a scan. It didn't find anything. I ran my spyware application (Spybot Search and Destroy) again nothing.

Nov 17, 2009I downloaded RocketDock and I'm having some issues with it while using "Show the Desktop." Whenever I click it, the Dock disappears because the OS considers it like every other program and minimizes it since its blocking the desktop. Is there any way to get it so that clicking "Show the Desktop" won't minimize RocketDock, much in the same way that sidebar is still kept on the screen? Currently, the only way I can use the dock is by minimizing any windows blocking it so that I don't need to click "Show the Desktop" which makes it disppear.

Feb 6, 2013We are using some Lenovo Q180's as media players for digital signage. For the most part they have all been working fine except for 2. Randomly, the signage presentation will re-size itself and move into the upper left corner. This happens randomly and not at the same times each day. They are hooked up to a LED tv via HDMI. I have tried switching the HDMI cables, ensuring all drivers are current and tried most all the basic troubleshooting. A simple re-start will get everything back looking and running fine. Again, this is a digital signage application so we cannot tell if this has occurred until the client calls to let us know which is not good for us.
