i would like to know if it is possible to change the behavior of show desktop button in the lower right from its default winkey+d and change its behavior to be similar to winkey+mi always use the show desktop button however im using a rocketdock and pressing the show desktop button will also minimize the rocketdock
I only learnt about this a couple of weeks ago!If you want to make the Aero Peek button at the far right of your Taskbar into a plain and simple Show Desktop button:Simply right-click the Aero Peek button and un-check the "Peek at desktop" option. Et Voila!! That's it!
I'm new here, and I registered because I wanted to ask; Is it possible to make the "Show Desktop" button smaller? The problem is, when I re-installed windows on my laptop, that button is bigger than usual >.< , and It just looks ugly.
Here's an image, the top picture is my current taskbar, and the bottom one is how it used to be:
Anytime I click the Show Desktop button at the bottom-right in Windows 7, it shows me the desktop, BUT my sidebar gadgets all disappear. They all re-appear as soon as I un-minimize anything on my taskbar. Rebooting doesn't change this behavior. If the problem isn't clear, here's more of a step-by-step of what's happening:
-I have a few Google Chrome windows up, let's say. -I *hover* over the Show Desktop button, and it shows my desktop, and my sidebar gadgets are all there. No problem so far. -I *click* on the Show Desktop button, and it shows the desktop, *and* the sidebar gadgets are suddenly gone, as if the sidebar has also been hidden in order to show the desktop. -Let's say I click on the Start menu and open sound recorder...The sidebar gadgets re-appear at this point. Likewise if I restore one of the windows that's minimized on the taskbar.
i have a problem with my "aero peek show desktop" at the right side of the task bar. it is double size, i read in a few forums about this case with installing tablets. i installed my wacom tablet a few days ago,so i suppose its because of this.
I just tonight installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 onto my system. Right away I noticed the issue. Icons on the desktop won't delete or won't show changes such as renaming right away. I have to refresh the desktop for the changes to take effect. I've tried restarting, I've installed all the current updates... nothing!
I'm in the habit of making a backup of files before changing them. To keep track of each version of a file, I make a copy and then rename it to include the last modified date. For example, if I'm going to edit bozo.html, I'll make a copy of the file (in the same directory) and rename it to bozo.2010.05.12.html . In Windows Explorer in Windows 7, if I right click on a file and drag and drop it in the same directory, I get a menu from which I select 'Copy here'. A copy of the file is created with the name 'bozo - Copy.html'. Is there any way to change this function to use the modified date of the file instead of ' - Copy' ?
I just bought a Gateway computer yesterday with Windows 7 preinstalled on it, and last night I tried to wake it from sleep but when I did, it didn't show the taskbar, icons or start button. All I could see was the background. I tried the "ctrl+shift+esc" method to fix it, but when I hit those keys nothing happened. I'm at a loss, and I don't want to return the computer!
I have client fields that are clients first name, clients last name, their street address, suburb and city, their landline number and their cell phone number and their email address.I don't always want to see the email address and would like to have a button that will show or hide the email address.Been trying everything and cant find a method to solve this, been using access 2010 complete book and internet?
I am facing problem in my Window 7 display due to my kid accident click the setting change (I don't know how they change) that cause the "start" button change from icon to the word "Start" with window image, also my font seem to be smaller than previous, did any senior can help me to restore to the normal view
In Windows 7, all the good icons are in %SystemRoot%system32imageres.dll, but we're still taken to the old SHELL32.dll when it comes time to change an icon.
Is there a registry key or something that we can change to remedy this?
I have a Toshiba Satallite with Windows 7 installed. I now have no start button, windows task bar and all of my desktop icons have gone missing.
When I restart the laptop (via CTRL + ALT + DEL) I see all of the missing items listed for about 10 seconds...then they all disappear. What I have left is my personalised background image (my cute 2 month old nephew with my sunglasses) and a windows explorer window. Nothing else.
So far I have managed to access my Virus protection software (AVG) and run a scan. It didn't find anything. I ran my spyware application (Spybot Search and Destroy) again nothing.
what I can do to get my laptop back to a usable state?
My customer has a small business with 2 x HP Proliant ML110 G6 servers installed ith VMware ESX 4.1.He has 7 Windows 7 64-bit workstations in a domain. He has a Windows 2003, 32-bit Domain Controller and 5 of the machines are in the domain. The other two are in a Workgroup and have DNS and DHCP on Windows 2003 Servers also 32-bit. All of these run as VMware Virtual Servers on the Proliants. The workstations in the Domain are all Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Everything has been working well for almost 3 years. A few weeks ago, they setup an extra server but decided that the VMware Server that the DC was on, was running low on memory, so they Cloned the Windows 2003 DC to the other VMware server. They say that everything was fine until they discovered that the shared printers no longer worked and various other problems. That was when I got involved. When I checked Control Panel --> System --> Advanced System Settings --> Computer Name, it shows the Full Computer name (plus domain), the Domain BUT...
The Network ID is greyed out but the Change Button is OK. If I click the Change Button, Member of Domain shows the domain name, but it's greyed out.I shut down the cloned Domain Controller and started up the original one, but this didn't make any difference.I tried taking one of the workstations out of the domain, but when I tried to put it back, the Domain stayed greyed out, so no way to put it back in. Netdom is also missing from all the workstations. They had a backup of this workstation, so I restored the backup and Voila! the computer was back in the Domain. Unfortunately all the backups of the other Windows 7 Workstations are WAY out of date.
This will permanently remove or change the Start Button "Start" balloon tip.I'm using ResHack v3.5.2 Beta for this tutorial.GoTo C:Windowsen-US and Take Ownership of and then copy the explorer.exe.mui to somewhere safe.If you are running a 64 bit system you should also modify the explorer.exe.mui which is located in C:WindowsSysWOW64en-USNow open your explorer.exe.mui(s) in ResHack and navigate to String Table 34, line 533. Modify / delete to your liking.
Before: Code: STRINGTABLE LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US { 530, "Unable to run command. The folder '%1' has been removed."
[code]....
Now go to your original folder(s) again and rename your original explorer.exe.mui(s) files (explorer0ld.exe.mui ?) then copy and paste your modified explorer.exe.mui file(s) into place. After a re-boot your start button balloon tip will have changed / disappeared.
I changed the 'open with' of my .001 file into shell32.dll (I went to system 32 and just typed it in). I did this by right clicking the file, went to properties, then at Open With, clicked Change, then browsed over to Windows32 for shell32.dll by typing it in the file box and clicked enter. Now I regret my actions and want to change it back to its default original (which was: Windows Shell Common DLL). Now the menus and stuff on the files' Properties is totally different. And what's more, the Open with change button and all is gone! How do I put it back to the way it was?
Does anyone know if there is a way to create a button on your desktop that will change the wallpaper of the desktop? Or even better perhaps, cycle through a different wallpaper for each click of this button, where you can add as many as you want, for an Easter Egg perhaps for a theme for Win 7?
Seen several different posts about this issue but really no definitive answer as to why is occurring. Never happened with XP or Vista only Windows 7. Seems most users with this issue report having a Dell computer but mine is a Toshiba Satellite L505. I just find it very annoying to have approximately half inch of desktop space visible on top of any type maximized window, browser window, explorer window, whatever.
I have been experiencing same problem in the link above and on both my laptop and my desktop,,,,both of them have same windows 7 ultimate 64 bitWhen I download any file to the desktop I am not able to see it unless I browse to the path C:UsersjohnDesktop,,,,then I would be able to see that file
My windows is minimizing the programs that im using. Well not exactly minimizing but sort of putting it back to desktop. I tried to install the windows again but whit no results. it's doing it again. I cant even write my documents in word properly because of this.
bought a dell touchscreen inspiron one 2320, thought it would be better than my two year old dell (don't see it yet). i am an average user and i am not impressed. anyway the question is why does the monitor go black after 1 minute? i have done all the normal stuff in power options. change power saving settings, change when the computer sleeps. choose when to turn off display. turn hibernation on or off. i upload to Internet and it the shutting down makes it frustrating....
In Windows 7, clicking on Network tab now shows as this image below in attachment:Computers: shows computer name (opening it accesses Users shared folder).Media devices: shows when I open windows media player (but "Media streaming options" is disabled in Network and Sharing Center).Network Infrastructure: shows modem name (opening it accesses modem page). How to turn this off again to see what I always had when clicking on Network tab: This computer is not connected to a network. Click to connect.

All my desktop icons are missing, no start button or task bar.The only way I can access my computer is via safe mode. Two things happened this morning so I am not sure which one is the culprit. Firstly I had an update from Java. Then I shut my computer down and went to bed.During the night, my UPS board starting beeping. We were having power problems, I think a brown out.The power went out completely then all my other electronics like my tv, kettle, washing machine etc, starting working properly again. So I can't say whether it was the power problem that has caused this or the Java update. I have done a system restore which didn't help. I have done Windows+R and typed in 'explorer.exe"..which only gave me a black screen. I have run all antivirus programs and nothing is being picked up.
After restart, Lenovo Windows 7 home basic just shows a colour Window 7 logo screen and does not show desktop even after clicking on anywhere on the screen?
