Anytime I click the Show Desktop button at the bottom-right in Windows 7, it shows me the desktop, BUT my sidebar gadgets all disappear. They all re-appear as soon as I un-minimize anything on my taskbar. Rebooting doesn't change this behavior. If the problem isn't clear, here's more of a step-by-step of what's happening:
-I have a few Google Chrome windows up, let's say.
-I *hover* over the Show Desktop button, and it shows my desktop, and my sidebar gadgets are all there. No problem so far.
-I *click* on the Show Desktop button, and it shows the desktop, *and* the sidebar gadgets are suddenly gone, as if the sidebar has also been hidden in order to show the desktop.
-Let's say I click on the Start menu and open sound recorder...The sidebar gadgets re-appear at this point. Likewise if I restore one of the windows that's minimized on the taskbar.
I only learnt about this a couple of weeks ago!If you want to make the Aero Peek button at the far right of your Taskbar into a plain and simple Show Desktop button:Simply right-click the Aero Peek button and un-check the "Peek at desktop" option. Et Voila!! That's it!
I'm new here, and I registered because I wanted to ask; Is it possible to make the "Show Desktop" button smaller? The problem is, when I re-installed windows on my laptop, that button is bigger than usual >.< , and It just looks ugly.
Here's an image, the top picture is my current taskbar, and the bottom one is how it used to be:
i would like to know if it is possible to change the behavior of show desktop button in the lower right from its default winkey+d and change its behavior to be similar to winkey+mi always use the show desktop button however im using a rocketdock and pressing the show desktop button will also minimize the rocketdock
I have a strange problem, I run a 9800GTX+ with a dvi to vga adapter to my monitor and a dvi to HDMI adapter to my onkyo TX-SR507 amplifier which in turn has a hdmi to my LCD TV.
I use the amp for sound from the pc down the hdmi lead.
now if my TV is not on (but the amp is) then windows decides to HIDE my desktop on my monitor with wallpaper... i mean no mouse, no taskbar, nothing... but everything is still there BEHIND wallpaper.. EG: if i press email button on keyboard when i put TV on again outlook will be sitting there on my monitor.
turning my amp off also works.
i have tried CLONING displays but still same thing??
had no problem like this on vista - and i have the newest graphics card drivers.
Somehow, my pillow, very gently, accidentally fell on the keyboard. For some reason, this caused my background to go back to some default picture, my desktop gadgets were gone, and other little customizable things (such as window colors and not hiding the taskbar) were also gone. So I changed everything back to the way it was and I was happy.
I'm running Windows 7 32bit. When Windows start, the gadgets isn't display.Even, it's not displaying "Windows Desktop Gadgets has stopped working" message. When I right-clicked on my desktop and select the gadgets, the gadgets isn't displaying too. I go to the Windows Task Manager and view the process, the 'sidebar.exe' is not shown. When I search on the programs and run 'View list of running Gadgets', it's displaying "Windows Desktop Gadgets has stopped working" message. [code]
Microsoft has killed the Sidebar in Windows 7, but the Gadgets it contained live on. This tutorial will show you how to add Gadgets to the Windows 7 Desktop and how to resize it.
I have client fields that are clients first name, clients last name, their street address, suburb and city, their landline number and their cell phone number and their email address.I don't always want to see the email address and would like to have a button that will show or hide the email address.Been trying everything and cant find a method to solve this, been using access 2010 complete book and internet?
I just bought a Gateway computer yesterday with Windows 7 preinstalled on it, and last night I tried to wake it from sleep but when I did, it didn't show the taskbar, icons or start button. All I could see was the background. I tried the "ctrl+shift+esc" method to fix it, but when I hit those keys nothing happened. I'm at a loss, and I don't want to return the computer!
Does anyone know if there is a way to create a button on your desktop that will change the wallpaper of the desktop? Or even better perhaps, cycle through a different wallpaper for each click of this button, where you can add as many as you want, for an Easter Egg perhaps for a theme for Win 7?
I don't know if this is a define behavior or a known bug, in any case the following are the steps to reproduce it:- Close all foreground applications.- Run Windows Explorer.- Run another applications.- Do the ALT + TAB (or ALT + TAB + SHIFT ) key combinations. A new "window" on the center of your desktop should appear. This window (I don't remember the name) shows all foreground applications actually running. You should see only two applications: Windows Explorer and the other one. Move back on Windows Explorer selecting it.- On Windows Explorer select a file to delete or create an empty one and select it.- Now, click the Canc key button or click on the file and from the popup menu that appears click on Delete menu item.- At this point ,the Windows Explorer Delete Folder dialog should appear, asking you to delete or not the file.- Do not click on the dialog, leave it as it is.- Now, move on to the other foreground application, with the ALT + TAB (or ALT + TAB + Shift) key combinations.
This problem also started today on my system with 64 bit windows. The problem occurs when adding tags or other editing jpg file types in all the graphic programs i have on my machine. The problem only started today and has not been a problem in the last 3 years i have been using windows 7 including betas.
The files attributes are being changed by the operating system during system saves to being a hidden file type when it appears native windows 7 system calls are made, it isn't happening during inital file saves from my camera or scanner. Yes the files are viewable in win exploerer when the show hidden files is check in file and search options and files can be changed back to being standard files by manually changing the attributes but this shouldn't be happening at all. JPG files are not a reserved system file type that are typically hidden my windows to prevent them from being deleted by ignorant system users.
All my desktop icons are missing, no start button or task bar.The only way I can access my computer is via safe mode. Two things happened this morning so I am not sure which one is the culprit. Firstly I had an update from Java. Then I shut my computer down and went to bed.During the night, my UPS board starting beeping. We were having power problems, I think a brown out.The power went out completely then all my other electronics like my tv, kettle, washing machine etc, starting working properly again. So I can't say whether it was the power problem that has caused this or the Java update. I have done a system restore which didn't help. I have done Windows+R and typed in 'explorer.exe"..which only gave me a black screen. I have run all antivirus programs and nothing is being picked up.
I have a Toshiba Satallite with Windows 7 installed. I now have no start button, windows task bar and all of my desktop icons have gone missing.
When I restart the laptop (via CTRL + ALT + DEL) I see all of the missing items listed for about 10 seconds...then they all disappear. What I have left is my personalised background image (my cute 2 month old nephew with my sunglasses) and a windows explorer window. Nothing else.
So far I have managed to access my Virus protection software (AVG) and run a scan. It didn't find anything. I ran my spyware application (Spybot Search and Destroy) again nothing.
what I can do to get my laptop back to a usable state?
I downloaded RocketDock and I'm having some issues with it while using "Show the Desktop." Whenever I click it, the Dock disappears because the OS considers it like every other program and minimizes it since its blocking the desktop. Is there any way to get it so that clicking "Show the Desktop" won't minimize RocketDock, much in the same way that sidebar is still kept on the screen? Currently, the only way I can use the dock is by minimizing any windows blocking it so that I don't need to click "Show the Desktop" which makes it disppear.
I have defined BootMenuPolicy for Windows 7 loader as standard(1) in a multi boot system with Windows 8 and Windows 7 (and other OSs) and set Windows 7 as default loader. System boots directly to Windows 7 - no boot menu is displayed. So what is prohibiting boot manager to display boot menu ?(If bootmenupolicy for Win 7 is set to legacy(0) boot menu is displayed.)
bcdedit output:
Windows Boot Manager -------------------- identifier {bootmgr} device partition=D: description Windows Boot Manager locale en-US inherit {globalsettings}
When I had Vista 64 bit before I upgraded to Windows 7 home prof., I could see what was on my monitor for the computer so I could watch a movie and just turn the speakers closer. Now after much experimentation, it will only show the background, no icons movies etc. on vga or the hdmi connection I just connected to my tv and the back of the computer!how to get me desktop's exact display over to my tv as well.

When I save this as show.scf it is react just like Win+D hotkey. But I want to create win+M hotkey's shortcut. If it possible to make this shortcut, when you click on it it must Minimize all windows by effect. And I want to sort folders by myself, for example: I have folder A, B, C, D and I want to sort them not by alphabet or by size.. I should able to put folder D after A, I cant drag them.
I have made a slide show of our recent holiday, the pictures of which are now all on a DVD Disc. I now want to take copies of these pictures to make prints. Rather stupidly, I reformatted my camera CF Card so do not have the originals.
