I have lost my driver installation CD. My computer crashed earlier this week and am not sure what drivers I even need to reinstall so that I can reinstall the OS.

I just completed my first homebuilt system but have been having many crashes and bluescreens which as of now, those helping me think is caused by my memory. The crashes occur when I have 6 gig (3 sticks) installed, but so far everything seems stable with only 1 stick (2 gig). I am now testing each stick separately to make sure none are faulty, while someone in a forum is trying to adjust my memory speeds and Bios values.While testing one stick I had a bluescreen crash while Windows was installing. Now Windows freezes while starting up and the Repair function said it couldn't be fixed. I attempted to reinstall Windows 7 but near the end of the installation the mouse cursor and whole screen froze up. I retried and this time it froze at the beginning of the installation. I chose the new installation with backup of Windows Old option, not the update option. I am not that experienced technically, but would a reformat to a clean drive be necessary here? If so, I could not find a format option during the installation. Could someone walk me through what to do either with or without a reformat?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, and I am currently running Windows Home Premium, 64 bit, which came with the computer, already installed when I bought it.However, since my computer came with Windows already installed, it did not come with an Windows 7 installation disk. Is there any way around this? Can I download an .iso for the CD somewhere or something?

The problem I am having is when I power the computer on the windows startup screen appears then a error message appears stating that the computer turned off or unexpectedly restarted click OK to restart computer to re-install windows 7. My computer was purchased brand new with all the software preinstalled, no disks were included or provided with the purchase. How can I or do I reinstall windows 7 when I do not hve the installation disk. Apperantly all software files/programs r an can be located within the hard drive of the computer I don't know where or how to even try to locate them.

The computer has backed up and restored settings completely upon completion I selected finish, computer then restarted windows logo appeared and then a black screen with "setup is starting services" appeared. The screen has not changed at all and it has been several hours. Is this normal?

He asked me to look into the "My Documents" folder saying he had no idea where "this stuff came from" nor what the value/import might be. I took a look, and sure enough there were a handful of folders in there that I would think should either be in the Programs or Programs Data folders associated with certain Applications. One was a folder "My Stationery" but did not appear to be Windows 7 stationery, but something else.Another had a bunch of system/app files in it associated with the place he purchased the laptop from [office depot] - re: some support maintenance stuff they sold him. There were others just as odd.

I couldn't do system restore because it was disabled I couldnt do driver roll back that was disabled. Apparently I cannot get into bios as it was blocked and I dont have any cds for it ( the player dont work anyways..

I decided to shrink my primary partition and install ubuntu on it.However after ubuntu finish installing. I get a boot error and it leads me to the use the recovery tool. At that point, I am prompt to put in a win 7 cd.I do just that but there is no response. I also tried to go into the window 7 installation screen but it cannot find any drives.On the linux live cd however, I am able to see all my partitions on the install screen.I suspect that I might have installed ubuntu on some important factory config files.

I did some rummaging on here & found out that it was the athr.sys driver that was corrupted. So I went on the internet, found a clean copy, downloaded and swapped it out with the corrupted driver. Everything was fine for a couple months until last week the same thing happened again. So knowing the steps I had to take I repeated what I did by finding another copy of athr.sys off of the internet. (I think it was the same site so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a tainted copy) instead of swapping the files I accidentally went to Device Manager and fully uninstalled my wifi card! Panicking I reinstalled it using what must have been my laptops pre-installed software(?) (Also I note at this point when I accidentally uninstalled my wifi card I think I saw another device from the network section of Device Manager disappear along with Atheros. Whatever that device was, if it was even there, is a mystery to me)

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter I installed Windows 7 64bit I found out that I had no sound so I went and download the latest driver for my Creative Labs X-fi Xtream gamer audio card. After I installed it and then restarted the regular "starting windows" came up for a few seconds but then went a way and loaded into the recovery manager where it wants to do a system restore, but I am stuck now in a loop of it trying to restore and then restarting with no progress. If the CL driver is the problem is there anyway I can get audio in windows 7 if the driver prevents me from starting up?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a refurbished Hp m6-1035dx, with OEM windows home premium 64bit.Additionally I also purchased a Samsung 830 SSD and and Optical Bay Caddy. My plan is to install the SSD in the Main Drive Bay and tranfer the current stock hitachi HDD into the Optic Bay. I was considering cloning my OS to the SSD, but decided to go for a fresh install of Windows 7 instead, considering my current OS files take up 40gb (which seems like a lot to me). So considering I have an OEM Windows 7 I opted to try the USB installation, using the guide provided on this forum. Everything was going well until I received the Device Driver error message "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing...etc" which is followed by the option to browse for the device driver. I have read numerous forums on this issue and none of the solutions have worked for me. For example I have tried switching the USB ports, I have actually tried all my USB ports, with no success. Some forums suggest I load the SATA/RAID drivers into my USB and then select those through the browse option. I have no tried this yet, as I have thus far been unsuccessful in locating these drivers. My next move was to burn the ISO onto a disc instead.

I have Canon S900 inkjet installed on an XP PC on my win 7 homegroup. Works fine from the XP PC. The Win 7 PC sees the S900 and asks for driver. Downloaded Canon aomwin110ea23us.exe which extracts something somewhere. Cannot locate ANY .inf file on the PC. Win 7 still wants the .inf file to install the printer. Know this is a bit 'unusual'

Here is what it displays:
"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now".
So I found drivers for my mobo Asus M5A97, I select them and then after I click next this message appears: "No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media".
I don't know what to do! I've tried all I can think of!! Nothing seems to work! I am trying to install windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, I've tried installing windows vista 32 bit, and its been saying the same thing as well! I found the drivers here: [URL].
I just got a brand new computer for christmas, it's a hp compaq dc5850, and it was working fine until now! I tried turning the computer on and it got stuck at the blue hp invent screen, I didn't know what to do, so I finally decided to just try and restore it. View 1 Replies View RelatedJust like Vista, I cannot seem to find any way to stop the automatic driver installation. I love how when I uninstall a driver/device in XP, on reboot it pops up asking me what to do. Vista and 7 on the other hand, take it upon themselves to reinstall Microsoft drivers on reboot no matter what I do.
I've searched online and yielded no results, and searched here and didn't find anything either (Key words yield many results). Ideally I would prefer Vista/7 to just IGNORE the new device, so I can install the new one/update it myself. But if that can't be done, I'd at least like to be able to STOP the automatic driver installation.
Theres gotta be some way, even if I have to edit something or add registry keys, I just want to stop the automatic microsoft driver installation.
I currently have Windows 7 RC(Build 7100) x64 installed on my Lenovo Y650. The problem im currently having is that almost all of the drivers/system devices I try to install on windows hang during installation. In earlier builds I never had this problem, and it has only recently started happening. In fact, I am running 7100 only because the RTM build refused to install the drivers for my printer(which i needed badly) and I had to revert to 7100.
So far I have had this problem of hanging driver installs with my ipod, my blackjack II(installing windows mobile center), and updating my synaptic drivers. the install windows just sit there and nothing ever happens. I can eventually end the processes but I experience a slow down in performance that is only fixed by rebooting.
The strange thing about this whole problem is that I already had this exact build installed before had no problems with it, this has only started after i reinstalled(clean) with the RTM.
I have already searched google for all my specific problems and found nothing useful. Does anybody have any tips/fixes I can try that I may have overlooked?
