I have 2 computers in a homegroup at home (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits and Windows 7 Home Basic 32 bits), behind a TP-Link TL-WR740N router (and ZoneAlarm Free 9.2.076.000).
Both computers have Teredo enabled, but the Ultimate one is always running ("qualified"), whereas the Home basic one is mainly "dormant", unless, of course, I try to reach a website which "triggers" Ipv6 (e.g. Test your IPv6.).
Since both computers have exactly the same programs installed (and homegroup file sharing by itself doesn't change Teredo status - on the Home Basic one it remains "dormant" even while I'm doing so), why does the Ultimate computer has teredo always in "qualified" status? Does Windows Ultimate 7 enables this "qualified" setting (even if there's no Ipv6 trigger) by default, maybe due to its unique features (e.g. DirectAcess)?
If not, what else would trigger Teredo?
The second part relates to the first one... I'm not very comfortable with the Teredo service running all the time, due to security reasons... It seems that the process keeps some ports open, and that the traffic is not filtered properly (or at all), by the NAT and/or the Firewal.
So, how safe Teredo really is? Should I worry leaving it running all the time? Or should I try to minimize the potential security risks by finding out how to make it run only when really needed on the Ultimate computer (as the Windows Basic computer does)? Of course there's the "disabling it altogether" option, but I don't know whether it would impact the homegroup or not.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed that I don't have any Internet connection (red x) but my laptop seems to have Internet connection. I checked my Device Manager and it seems that Network Adapter is missing instead there is 'Other Device' and below it was a 'Unknown Device' (with a yellow exclamation mark). I tried to install the driver but no luck via USB. I also did a system restore point but still no luck. I also tried to 'Scan for hardware changes' and still again, no luck... It's still unknown device.
I searched the Internet and they said the resetting the CMOS will solve this problem, is this true?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 on an Acer Aspire 7551. The internal wireless network adapter does not appear in the device manager. So I am using an external USB wireless adapter until I get the internal one to work. I tried to contact Acer but if the system is out of warranty, you can drop dead for all they care. I went to their support website and downloaded a driver for 'Wireless LAN Driver'. They have two different vendors. I chose Broadcom. It downloaded a zip file and I don't know how to install it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt was working fine, I didn't install or change nothing (mostly is used as MediaCenter). It was working perfectly without any change for months. Then I shutdown one day as always, and when I reboot the next day no network is present. The PC is an Acer Aspire X3900 desktop with an integrated intel NIC. This is what I have seen: In the Windows 7 network configuration panel there isn't any NIC present. IPCONFIG shows nothing, no adapter is listed (is not like when you unplug the network cable and the adapter is listed buy without the IPs; now the command shows nothing at all). But, and that is the weird thing, in device manager all seems fine. The Intel NIC is listed without any warning mark. Looking the properties, all looks ok. This is what I had already try: I reinstalled the NIC drivers. No changes. Reinstalled the chipset drivers. No changes. Uninstalled NIC drivers with an Intel utility. Then I rebooted and reinstalled the drivers when windows detected the new hw. No changes. Disabled the NIC adapter in device manager, reboot and re-enable. No changes. Uninstalled the NIC adapter in device manager. Reboot and re-install the drivers when windows detect the new hw.No changes. Disabled the NIC adapter in BIOS. Boot windows, shutdown, re-enable the adapter in BIOS, and reboot. einstall the drivers. No change. Recover the system from an old recover point, but no change.

The problem is that i can't find either modem or network adapter on my device manager.

View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday my outlook was fine in the morning and suddenly I keep getting this message and cannot open it to get my emails! I run a business from home so am desperate to access these emails. The error message is...."Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe from the IE5 folder located on your CD or through the Windows Update website".Now I've googled this and quite a few people have had this problem too and I've tried various answers that have worked for others but they don't work for me!The most common answer is to go to regedit and then find........ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftActive SetupInstalled Components{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}In the right pane there should be a value named IsInstalled. The data value for it should be 00000001. If yours ends with a zero, double click on IsInstalled and change the zero to a 1. Then try starting Outlook. But when I got to that folder there is no IsInstalled file there to change the data value on. There is a folder below it similar ending 00AA00B6015F which has an IsInstalled file where the value is already '1' so doesn't need changing!
