Does an XP and Win 7 machine need Teredo tunneling protocol IPv6 connectivity turned on to have a functioning home network (Teredo problem is on the Windows 7 box)? My Teredo device has not been working so I disabled it and now I'm attempting to setup a home network between the two computers and I'm having no luck.

When I run a diagnostic, it says that my wireless internet adaptor has dropped the connection to the internet.I have checked if I am connected to the rooter and if a cable is bad. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computers in a homegroup at home (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits and Windows 7 Home Basic 32 bits), behind a TP-Link TL-WR740N router (and ZoneAlarm Free 9.2.076.000).
Both computers have Teredo enabled, but the Ultimate one is always running ("qualified"), whereas the Home basic one is mainly "dormant", unless, of course, I try to reach a website which "triggers" Ipv6 (e.g. Test your IPv6.).
Since both computers have exactly the same programs installed (and homegroup file sharing by itself doesn't change Teredo status - on the Home Basic one it remains "dormant" even while I'm doing so), why does the Ultimate computer has teredo always in "qualified" status? Does Windows Ultimate 7 enables this "qualified" setting (even if there's no Ipv6 trigger) by default, maybe due to its unique features (e.g. DirectAcess)?
If not, what else would trigger Teredo?
The second part relates to the first one... I'm not very comfortable with the Teredo service running all the time, due to security reasons... It seems that the process keeps some ports open, and that the traffic is not filtered properly (or at all), by the NAT and/or the Firewal.
So, how safe Teredo really is? Should I worry leaving it running all the time? Or should I try to minimize the potential security risks by finding out how to make it run only when really needed on the Ultimate computer (as the Windows Basic computer does)? Of course there's the "disabling it altogether" option, but I don't know whether it would impact the homegroup or not.

One of the updates was for nvidia software, however I noticed that after this update that when watching video on full screen that the image was much brighter more contrasty and sharper, so I fouterd (fiddled)about with the various nvidia menus to no avail. I eventually decided stuff this I'll just do a system restore and that should sort it. The only good bit was that my full screen mode was back to normal; but the first thing that happened was that when I went to type my password I couldn't type using the keyboard so I had to use the easy access on screen keyboard using my mouse. Even with windows up and running the keyboard simply won't function, in desperation I tried a couple more restore points and none them worked. I used the F8 KEY with keyboard to get into safe mode and this worked but as soon as the password is needed the keyboard does not work and even in safe mode it's not there.but the keyboard obviously functions since I can use it F8 mode; now the latest thing is that any system restore points fail.In F8 mode selection I notice that there is the option of Computer Repair but if I take this route does this mean that all my software will be removed?

I have tried netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=<name of network> key=<password>. However, this hasn't brought back the connection in "Network Connections".
I recently got a brand new computer case and today when I inserted external HDD, the computer reseted itself.HDD is working fine in motherboard USB ports, but when I want to connect the HDD device from front panel, the screen suddenly goes back and computer restarts.In device manager there is no problem discovered.It resets even if I touch the USB port with the HDD connector.It can't be short circuit right?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have a problem with my USB under windows 7 64 bit. Whenever i seem to do any intense activity that is using USB the USB ports stop working. When i say intense activity, i mean copying over a large file to a jump drive or external drive, burning a DVD on external DVD drive, etc. My game controllers, mouse, and Mic headset all work fine and don't cause the USB to malfunction.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. i have reinstalled my motherboard drivers and aside from that i have no clue what else to do. I did not have this problem under XP.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Acer Aspire 5672 from win xp to Windows 7 hm prem 32bit. I realised that the keybd and touchpad fails to function when I have the battery unit installed, but they work fine as soon as I remove it. Before the upgrade, I run the microsoft upgrade advisor program and it did not flag the battery. Secondly, I dual boot with ubuntu 12.04 and the keybd and touchpad works well in the ubuntu platform except that it receive very minimal charge. The laptop runs on the minimally charged battery for a short period.
