I Have lost the ability to drag highlighted text to the subject box when I compose or forward an email using Gmail and other mails with Firefox. Believe it may have stopped working with Firefox 14.1 update, I have tried Firefox safe mode and cache cleaned.
I have a problem that drives me nuts: in my main account I lost the ability to browse any websites. I can successfully ping to the Default Gateway and websites but when trying to open a website I always get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message. I also can ping the computer from the router or another computer. Also Windows Update and Microsoft Security Essentials have no problems searching or downloading updates. And in another account on the same Windows 7 installation I can browse websites without any issues. I already tried to shut down the firewall but that didn't solve the problem.
Vista allowed the contents of a window to be sorted by name, date modified, etc in any view -- but it appears Windows 7 drops that menu bar for all views other than "details" view. I can right-click within the box to sort, but it's very inefficient. retain that detail bar in all views?
For unknown reason, I suddenly encountered problem with highlighting text on Internet Explorer (8) and words document (office 2003). I also have problem with dragging a cell (for copying a formula) to other cells in excel. I tried to play around with my keyboard (pause/break and scroll lock key), sometimes it worked for once, but I it won't work the next time I tried.
FYI, I am using windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and a razer keyboard (using windows default driver). I probably can try to install the driver from razor, however, i thought there is probably a simple fix for the issue i.e. a certain key from the keyboard got activated by accident (my little daughter sometimes punched the keyboard for fun).
I have a quick simple question. Only some of my menus are being highlighted with a graphic. The vast majority of them are not, and it is ugly annoying for obsessive people like me. This is what I mean:
Everything should look like the one on the left, but most of them look like the one on the right (based on the selection color).
I double click to open one single folder and all folder icons on my desktop highlight. I consistently get dialogue boxes that appear and will not go away until I use Ccleaner. My computer guy says no cleaners as it deletes some important reg files. But this is the only way these things will go away. whats up.
I am legally blind. My Mac will speak the words on the page to me. I also have a PC running Windows 7. Is there a way to have Windows 7 speak aloud what is on the screen if highlighted?
When I go to an album folder from my computer, highlight all the songs, then go to right-click and play. Problem: If I highlight more than 15 to play, instead of 'Open' (which opens MediaMonkey, as that's the program I've chosen for these types of files)...it says "Add to Windows Media Player list".
Ok this is wierd I have a client using Office 2007 pro and some of her docs that she recently updated and the problem is when she prints the docs text that she deleted is printing over the top of new text she inserted into the doc.
Now when you have said doc open in WORD the deleted text is not there in any view and does NOT show in "print preview".
I opened said doc with WORDPAD and the deleted text shows up at the bottom so its still in the word doc somewhere imbedded so it prints over the top of the actual text in the doc.
I have a project where I need to search a large amount of text files on my home PC. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. My research indicated this feature was available in Windows 7.
If you do a search in Windows XP, you get a bunch of fields. You can pick to search for text INSIDE the particular sub folder structure.
I have found this feature in Windows 7, but it is different. I have tried using wild cards but it does not seem to work properly.
All of the sudden, when I want to copy and paste something in the same document, the formatted text (whether that be a certain font or bold) does not transfer over to the pasted text. For instance, if I wanted to copy the following bolded word word and then paste it anywhere else in the document, I now get this: word (without the bold). This applies to other cutting and pasting problems: this applies to other fonts and formatting (bold, my Greek font, etc). One more example: before today, if I wanted to cut a text out of my New Testament Greek program right in the middle of a paragraph, the Greek font (or whatever font) would paste normally no matter what font the target MS Word text was in.

Hello folks I am an 84 year old lady & am hoping 1 of you bright young things can help me get back on track.I used to be able to go to my explorer find a page copy the link & then paste it onto my dasktop if it were 1 that I would use often. I seem to have lost my ability to do this.
When I login to my work machine and open explorer or anything, Explorer.exe crashes and restarts. Once its restarted I can no longer open any programs or explorer. If I right click on the shortcut it appears to be missing the "open" command and double clicking doesn't work either.I have scanned for viruses, using Trend, Avast, AVG and Panda. I have also scanned for MAlware using Malware bytes & Spybot and they did not find anything.I have also logged on as a different user, this works fine. After that I recreated the profile and still explorer.exe is doing the same
Its been like this for a while now. That is every time i leave my computer on for over a day it loses its ability to load webpages. A simple ping to [URL] gives a timeout while any other computer on the network can still access any other website (including google.com). I suspected a failure of my computers DNS to convert DN's into IPs however a flushing and reactivating of the computers DNS cache still does not solve the issue. If i still have MSN or uTorrent running they seem to be able to connect to peers over the internet which is strangely odd, however signing in and refreshing trackers no longer work. I have tried accessing websites with the latest version of IE and FF while this problem persists.
All network settings are on automatic and i use Windows 7 SP1. I have a phone that alerts me to new mail and i have suscribed to this thread.
With the number of updates that come for Windows 7, there must be a lot of space used up by the files which make it possible to uninstall KB updates and hotfixes, and security updates. Is there any way to get rid of these? It is at least a week since an update was installed, and my system is running fine, so I don't see why I should be able to uninstall the 37 updates to Windows listed in Control Panel - Programs and Features - Installed Updates. Some of them go back nearly a year.Over time, these backups are going to take up a significant space in the Wiondows partition.
Is there a tweak possible to cause a program that doesn't have the ability built-in, to open multiple instances of itself to do so?I use Movie Collector for cataloging videos, and often when using it's scraper function, the options for a particular program's data download, is for each season of the program, which means that the program tree and thumbnail display fills rapidly, causing some orderly disorder.I prefer to integrate the seasons that I have of a series into a single listing, but to do that requires not only a lot of copy/pasting, but is hindered by the fact that one must go back and forth, opening and closing windows a lot. It would be much, much easier, if one could place two windows of the program side-by-side.
My new desktop will be coming on WED and I will be giving this Laptop to my sister and mother to use. I bought it in 2009, loaded with Windows 7 and it still runs like a dream perfect for what they would use it for. I was wondering what kind of precautions can I take to limit their ability to run exe files or to install things when I'm not arround b/c there desktop is a mess.....half of the browser window is full of search engine bars....you know the drill when it comes to family computers. I'd really hate to give them laptop and see them turn it into crap.
I am running 2 monitors on my Win 7 computer and I am trying to figure out hoe to snap a window to the sides where the monitors meet. Im sure there has to be a keyboard shortcut for this.
I have checked my user ID and it shows I have all permissions available to me as the administrator. When I r-click on desktop, and select Gadgets, I get a message only admin can access Gadgets. I have other issues, but I'd like to deal with them one at a time.
I have a laptop that has been attached to a domain that is no longer available. It will not let me logon any other way but a non admin / non domain user account.
Admin password is lost. Can I use something like Nordahl to access that admin account? Domain or not?
I recently built my first HTPC. Everything works great. I've got a ton of storage for all my shows/etc. The problem is that on my main 2TB HD, I've set up a partition for the OS (Windows 7) and then a larger Ex-Fat partition on the rest of the drive where I store my media. Occasionally, I will go to that partition and will be unable to edit folder titles, create new folders, move anything around the drive or move anything on or off of it. I scan the drive, which forces an unmount of the partition, find no errors, and then remount the drive and everything is fixed.
I have a HP Touchsmart 300-1060a (Home Premium Windows 7 64 BIT) which I bought few years back. Now for the last 6 months or so I started getting issues with my machine was not displaying anything at all after turning it on. So I had to hard reset my power from the machine and then was able to see it started displaying again. At first I suspected graphic card (NVIDIA GEFORCE) but then I did my diagnostic test and nothing was found. One day, I started re-imaging my machine as a fresh and then after this it never came back ONLINE. I read all HP forums & even HP Online support was unable to help me to find the cause.Because when I turn on my machine I can see the power light was on and could hear big fan noise but mo HDD activity at all.So at this stage, I suspected either motherboard or BIOS but wasn't 100% sure what could be the real cause because I was sure it was not due to graphic card.So first I re-setted by my BIOS to see if it helps but it didn't came up at all. So then I took my machine to a Computer repair shop (a friend of mine) and we detected it could be due to the regulator which supplies power to the CPU and motherboard. So we replaced that part and now my HP Touchsmart is running fin since then. But I have lost my HP Startup logo with options such as below: [code]
