Explorer.exe Crashes Then Lose Ability To Open Anything?
Jan 6, 2012
When I login to my work machine and open explorer or anything, Explorer.exe crashes and restarts. Once its restarted I can no longer open any programs or explorer. If I right click on the shortcut it appears to be missing the "open" command and double clicking doesn't work either.I have scanned for viruses, using Trend, Avast, AVG and Panda. I have also scanned for MAlware using Malware bytes & Spybot and they did not find anything.I have also logged on as a different user, this works fine. After that I recreated the profile and still explorer.exe is doing the same
Everytime I try and open internet explorer it immediately crashes. I have read on some forums that it could be caused by an Add On, therefore I have tried running internet explorer from the sytem tools menu with No Add Ons, but it still does the same thing opens and immediately crashes. I have runn CCleaner hoping that perhaps a registry problem was the cause, but this did not resolve the issue either.
Windows 7 x64Intel i7 860 Lynnfield4GB RAMI've got a .mkv file and a .nfo file in a folder with no other files or folders. On a clean boot, I've got ~2390MB of free memory. As soon as I open this folder, the memory in use begins to climb and within 60 seconds I've lost all of my free RAM. Once it maxes out, performance falls off a cliff and typically ends with me doing a hard reset.I used the resource monitor to track this, and the bizarre thing is there doesn't seem to be any process actually using up any memory. All of the processes listed there in the memory tab keep just about the same amount of memory in use (looking at committed, working, shareable and private). If windows boots in Safe Mode, the issue is not reproduced.I can open the video and the video plays.<edit>If I open the video from the recent history within the Media Player Classic, it will play and does not take up my memory</edit>What do you think?
Added an SSD (everything was working perfectly after this step). Today I added another 6870 (CFX'd), 750w psu, and put it all in a new case. And starting today I've been getting constant APPCRASH errors from explorer.exe, it happens almost every 5 minutes (it's making me want to rage). I know the problem is ati/amd/catalyst from the error log.I'm installing the newest beta drivers after this posting and will update accordingly. [code]
As described here: 'Microsoft is offering users running Windows 7 a fix designed to resolve issues related to Windows Explorer. According to the software giant, Windows Explorer can crash in certain scenarios, a glitch which also seems to be impacting Windows Server 2008 R2, not just Windows 7. It appears that the issue is not exactly new, since it affects the RTM versions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, as well as the two operating systems after their first upgrade was released. Essentially, the release of Service Pack 1 doesn't seem to have resolved Windows Explorer crashes. "This issue usually occurs when you perform some operations that are related to the taskbar or to the Address bar," the Redmond company revealed.
If I open my computer or explorer and I right click on a drive Explore crashes instantly... i cant see anything anout the drive, properties,etc...I just had a bout with S.M.A.R.T HDD virus and feel either its still hanging around or it did something to my HDs, I have an external HD and wanted to see the properties of it,,,,space used ect, and cant?
Whenever I go to the "Programs and Features" module in Win 7 I get the trusty old, "Explorer has stopped working and is restarting" my taskbar goes for a split second and P&F closes. I have gone to Event viewer to look for a reason and 9 out of 10 crashes acording to the faulting module is "msi.dll" Isn't msi the Microsoft installer? Anyway, how can I go about fixing this or troubleshooting it? It is to say the least annoying. My Computer is an Acer laptop Win 7 HP x64/8gb RAM /Core i5 430Mprocessor.
I have a brand new laptop. Toshiba I5 with Windows 7. Since I have it, I have problems with Internet Explorer. It crashes constantly. Everytime, I'm navigating in it, suddenly a popup appears saying that Internet Explorer incountered a problem and Windows will try to resolve the problem. But then when it stop searching, it says that they couldn't resolve the problem and when they can will let me know.Yesterday I was feathup and downloaded Modzila Firefox. I'm sick and tired of this problem and would like to resolve it.I tried going on the microsoft website et download again Internet Explorer but it says I have the lastest version.
So when i got home this afternoon I turned my computer on as usual. However, when it reached the desktop, I got an error message saying that "Windows explorer has crashed blah blah" It couldn't find a solution, restarted and then crashed immediately ad infinitum. This means I can't get into my computer at all to get any logs or anything. I also tried running it in safe mode but my Keyboard doens't appaear to be "active" in the period you need to hit F8
Every time I start my laptop it gets past the welcome screen and then goes black and a window appears stating that Windows Explorer has stopped working. I use task manager to get to Run. I attempt to start explorer.exe but the task manager crashes as well. The same thing happens in Safe Mode and i can't get to MSCONFIG to run a clean boot.[CODE]
This is seriously why I hate IE. As soon as I click the Internet Explorer 9 icon to start it... it crashes. It appears for a split second then closes.I tried running the Advanced SystemCare 4 "Fix IE" option.... and it didn't work. What do I need to do. I need it for a few sites.
We are seeing explorer.exe crashes on 3 PC's right now...all 3 are Dell OptiPlex 755's running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. I have attached the dump file that was created using the registry program that was provided in this post. We have already tried sfc /scannow, chkdsk and virus scans.
Every time I try to open a folder after few seconds I get a message saying Windows Explorer has stopped working. I checked "Always show icons, never thumbnails" when ever I uncheck the box windows explorer will not last for 10 seconds am trying to locate the error and I like using the thumbnail.
I looked at some of the solutions including the error check in the c:. I've installed the ccleaner on my computer as well and still didnt work. So the problem is, whenever I am on my computer and explorer crashes it says "the windows explorer has stopped working" and after that it just restarts the explorer but my all the icons in the system icons disappear except for the clock. I tried to go and change it but I can't, the sound, internet and uac icons disappear and I can only see them again if I reboot my computer. I am running windows 7 32-bit. [URL].
I recently installed Windows 7 on my wifes computer and it keeps crashing while web browsing and reopening. I am posting an event log to hopefully clarify this error.
y motherboard Asus P8Z77-V LX can handle up to 32 GB of DDR3 1600mhz.I did do a "memtest" on all of my 16GB DDR3 1600mhz, 10 passes, 10 hours and no errors. I had my original 4 GB still in the computer as I had to remove the other ram to install Windows 7. Once windows was installed I ran it with just the 4 GB for a few days to make sure everything was working which it was. So I then re-installed the remaining 12 GB of ram and then right away windows explorer kept crashing. I removed the 12GB I just put in and reinstalled each stick separately with the original 4 GB so each time there was 8 GB of ram installed with no problems at all.So what gives ???Is there a default setting somewhere that is limiting my memory?
I recently installed a program that was able to change folder backgrounds but uninstalled it, and I think this is what has caused this problem: Those same files show up no matter what I type in and they are all 0 bytes. If I right click one, Windows Explorer crashes.
Lately explorer.exe has started to stop responding and crash randomly, when it does then it doesn't restart and I can't start it from the taskmanger/run/cmd and I have to restart or re-log to get it to work again.
When I right click anywhere, it just crashes my Windows Explorer. I've tried doing the "sfc /scannow" but it said it couldn't fix some corrupted files.
I can't go into My Computer because windows explorer crashes before the window appears, and when i right click on something either on the Start Menu or Desktop, windows explorer crashes.
if i open a single instance of ie9 it will work fine no issues, if i split or open a second instance of ie9 all hell breaks loose memory faults appear to occur for no reason and kernal power failures..now i can do the exact same thing with safari chrome firefox and opera and no problems occur at all. i can open 4 games do a full render in 3ds all at the same time as watching a movie and streaming content online and chatting on steam while talking on skype, yet if i open ie9 well it all comes crumbling down around me?so the common area is ie9 as when that opens it seems to just create problems with it closed my pc runs like a dream for weeks on end no issues faults or problems.now i know the easy solution is to just not use ie9...the problem is i kinda like it, i'm not a fan of chrome or some of the others i've yet to really give firefox a good try though.so i need some help with this it's driving me nuts now after 4 months of doing it i've changed ram, power supply all my cables twice as i thought hey they could be the fault yet the problem remains?
I'm running Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop bought last year. My windows explorer is currently stuck in a permanent state of crashing every 3 seconds. I've tried restarting, shutting down, running virus checks and removing all suspicious adware, removing cookies, and calling tech support. They said it was a problem with a corrupted something to do with the explorer file. It started by crashing once or twice whenever I viewed a particular folder on my desktop (all it had was some video files), and now it crashes when I'm not doing anything. Immediately crashes after reset. I'm operating in safe mode now and the tech guy said the problem is fixable from my end, but wouldn't tell me how to do it unless I gave him $160. And I don't have a credit card
If this helps, the tech guy was remotely controlling my computer and he's left open Services where he was looking at Computer Browser and he said he could fix it in one or two steps from there. The problem with the browser crash was cited as
"The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start."
Whenever I open a folder/drive or view a .flv file[in my pc and not my browser] explorer crashes and my CPU Usage goes up at 100%.And I have to restart Explorer.exe everytime this happens.I dont really know when this problem started cause I dont use much .flv files.
Using an HP G42 laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic OS.
Around 15 seconds after booting into Windows, a window pops up 'windows explorer has stopped working..windows is checking for a solution to the problem...'
After a couple of seconds, a window pops up saying Windows Explorer is starting, and then the previous windows pops up again.
I can't access any other programs when this happens. I've tried running in safe mode, and this issue doesn't come up. If done checkdisk, but this hasn't resolved the issue.
I had an F/drive failure. Got the files recovered and transfered to a backup drive, installed a new F/ drive and as I began re-installing program files, discovered I couldn't use Explorer right-click to copy data files to a different directory. I tried the NirSof shexview program to disable all context menu items, no joy, even in safe mode. I made a crashdmp file, but don't know how to open or read it. Per other threads, I've uploaded that to skydrive.
if I open a folder and r/click any file (to send it to another disk), I get a message saying that Explorer has stopped working and then it is restarting. This happens every time I try this. It restarts OK every time but never tells me why it crashed. When I go to do a System restore, it cannot complete the restore as it says a file cannot be accessed and that maybe an Anti-virus is running. I have disabled A/V and Firewall, both in Norton Internet Security which I only installed yesterday. All was working OK until later today, when I noticed that Windows 7 had installed 3 critical updates and I'm thinking that one or both are the cause? These were KB973924 x 2 and KB972696.
I had no idea where to put this, so I've chosen General.I've had a major issue lately: Every short once in a while, only when I open my primary partition Drive C, explorer.exe freezes and the only way out is to close it.I have no idea why this occurs, and can only really tell that this closing also takes an enormous amount of time.
