Installing W7 using an old HDD on an old machine to install W7 on a new SSD to be used on a new machine.I'm currently using this old machine from '09 and its performance levels have died down a lot. I bought all the components to build a new machine except I didn't want to spend extra money on another HDD to install the OS on my new 180GB Intel SSD. So basically, I want to use the HDD from my old computer, install W7 onto the SSD, then transfer the drive to my new computer, and use it on the machine and just reinstall all my other files.
I purchased a computer that has windows 7 home premium installed. I also have a critical app that can only run on XP and the manuf. tells me that the app runs into problems when running on Windows 7's XP emulation. I installed a second HD in the PC, and it recognized and gave it a drive letter. Formatted it to make sure it was clean. (It was previously installed in a Dell with XP.also bought an XP SP3 OEM license CD, and followed the instructions in the tutorial on the subject. When trying to boot off the XP CD, I got a Blue Screen indicating that the installation was halted, damage to the machine, blah blah.
I did the same as this fellow. I have a fresh HD, mad a partition on it, booted from the 64bit CD. It let me go through the entire process when it came time for the ssystem to reboot I received and error message "cant run the 64 bit windows 7 on a 32 bit system". I can not get passed it each time I boot I get the same thing
My machine has been stuck on installing this update all night. I think my hard drive may be full, what should I do? Been meaning to format that thing and reinstall windows to it since its just a 40 gig SSD.
I am doing a clean install using the upgrade DVD but on a virtual machine (on a Mac using VMWare Mac Fusion). Everything goes smooth and as per the tutorial except that once I arrive to the "Windows product key", it does not recognize the product key. I skipped that step and completed all other steps as indicated. However, I was unable to activate my windows 7 (last step) as it mentioned that the product is only for upgrade from older version and not for a clean install.
I do have windows XP copy but I would rather do a clean install.
I have installed Oracle VM Box and installed Win XP therein. All OK but do I need to install an anti Virus software to the OS in the VM Box or will the A/V on my PC protect it?
I am working on a Dell Studio 1745 running Win7 64 Home Premium. I need to run a piece of hardware (Tascam US122) that is incompatiable with the 64bit OS. My plan is to partition the drive and install Win 7 32bit on the new partition so I can run the mentioned hardware. I've done this on another machine (Dual Boot XP and Win 7) and ran into a problems with the bootloader. I learned to install older OS FIRST because of that. I'm wondering if installing Win7 32bit on a current Win7 64bit machine will cause a similar problem with bootloaders? I'd rather not have to mess with the bootloaders, but I really need to run this hardware.
The only printer in my network is on a computer running XP, and my 7 laptop needs to connect to it. How do I do this? I already used my XP computer to set up a workgroup, but I can't figure out how to connect to it on 7.
I upgraded my Vista Laptop to Windows 7, I also have a WindowsXP machine. My question is, can I reformat my Laptop and reinstall Vista and then upgrade my XP machine to Windows 7?
i have Lan, all computers are windows 7 proffisional and one machine is windows 2003 , workgroup . i made shared folder in windows2003 , some computers can access the shared folder and others can not.when i open network , i see the 2003 computer, when i try to access it , it asked for user name and password. the user is administrator for all , when i enter the user and password from many computers in the lan it is work correctly but in one machine with the same settings its says , you have no permession to access this computer.
I have de-commissioned an older machine that I had installed W7 on, I wish to install the W7 from this machine to another, is this possible -if so how?I think I have read somewhere, that once W7 is installed on a machine - it can NEVER be used on any other machine, is this correct?
I am trying to connect my Windows 7 laptop with a computer running Windows NT Server 4.0 through a 8 port hub using network cables for file sharing. I changed the IP address, subnet mask of my laptop to suit the IP address of the NT machine and could ping the computer from laptop and vice-versa. But when I try doing 'Run' -> \(IP address of computer with NT) it asks me enter a Network password and it does not accept any User id or password. I tried various solutions going through various forums like
1. Truning the firewall off
2. NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled
3. Creating a user account in the computer with NT with a same user id as the one on laptop with Windows 7
4. Logging in both the systems as administrator and without a password.
where to the disable hardware virtualization option is in BIOS.I have looked upon all the sections, and there is no option that lets me disable this feature. For example in the section named Security I am allowed to set some passwords (3 passwords in total - don't remember for what they were exactly) but pretty much nothing else is there. The first section is called Information and you are not allowed to change anything on that page. Finally, I have also verified that my processor has the option of hardware virtualization technology through the Intel Processor Identification Utility. My CPU is Intel Core i7-2670QM (2.2Ghz)(Extra Note: I need to disable this feature in order to run Mac OS X on VMWare)
I replaced an XP machine with a Win7 machine. When I VPN into our 10 network I can't get to any 192.168 addresses. The XP machine works fine only the Win7 doesn't. I looked at a lot of settings but I can't find anything out of sorts.
ive got 2 computers hooked up to a router by Ethernet sharing an internet connection, the internet connection works fine for both computers. i would like to share documents also between the computers
-one is a windows xp 32 -one is a windows 7 64
ive set up many networks in the past with a bunch of xp machines without any trouble but now i am having trouble my first step was on the windows 7 machine, i went to control panel -> network and sharing center -> setup a connection or network -> set up a new network this is where i believe i am making a mistake of some kind, it seems that the windows 7 machine is assuming that i want to set up the network wirelessly, when it is connected to the router via Ethernet. it simply brings me to a screen that says choose the wireless router or access point you want to configure, and hangs there with a greyed out next button everything seems to be going fine on the xp machine, i created a new network called "share bear", told it that the computer connects through a residential gateway, enabled file and printer sharing, rebooted the machine, and confirmed that there was a new folder in the network places for shared documents..i went back to the windows 7 machine where it was still hanging, rebooted it, looked for the new network in network and sharing center and it wasn't there, i tried again to "set up a new network" on the windows 7 machine with the same hanging screen
Background: I have a WinXP desktop machine with a hard drive that may have a virus/trojan/rootkit/etc. Normal scans on the WinXP machine with MSE or ThreatFire have not discovered the problem. But the best way to scan a drive is to remove it and treat it as a purely 'dummy' data drive plugged into a usb drive dock and run the scan from a clean machine. This way any infected programs and/or O.S. on the drive will have no control to mask or hide themselves. My other computer is an HP Windows 7 laptop. So I removed the hard drive from the WinXP machine and via the USB drive dock and the Windows 7 laptop saw the WinXP drive icon appear. However, double-clicking that icon results in the popup window message[CODE]
I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine. Permissions on the XP that is hosting the database is set to allow everyone. And all the XP machines can access it at the same time.
I have Windows Seven 7600 and i'm trying to share files with a XP SP2 machine!
Problems:
-XP machine can see Seven machine but can't access shared folders!
-Seven machine can see XP machine but when i'm trying to see shared folders it gives me an error(see on screenshot)
-Network map doesn't work(see screenshot)
-Both machines have same workgroup MSHOME but when i go to homegroup it says there is no people in the homegroup!(see on screenshots)
Other info:
Before i couldn't turn network discovery on,every time i was set it to on he was going to off so I searched on this forum(great forum) and finally i was able to turn it on,maybe others have this problem so there what i did:i go to start=>run=>services.msc and i turned on(also i switched them to automatic startup) these services DNS Client, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host services.
well i'm try to copy files from my xp machine to my win 7 machine i can see the xp machine but i get a message that says "make sure that the xp machine allow incoming connections for file sharing" and i have done just that i think but its a no go i've just about everything.
I'm going to be selling my laptop on eBay and was wondering how to I go about installing Windows 7 on it and then install all the drivers and everything but then not have the user and everything set up before hand.like the way they do it when you get your new laptop.
My original laptop was first fprmatted thus wiping the h/d of all the needless software and then I bought a WIN 7 Installation Disk and installed a new WIN 7 onto it using this Disk.
This laptop has now expired and I have replaced it with another . I would like to treat this one the same way and use this Installation Disk once more .
Will I have any problems with MS doing this with licences ?
there is problem occurring while installing Windows 7 to my laptop. I have formatted the all three drives then delete the two drives and now only one drive is present of 298 GB. But while I try to create the partition by pressing new nothing happens. The format option has gone. And while I try to to install the Windows 7 in the same 298 GB drive - it says -- setup was unable to use the existing partition because it does not contain the required free space.
I am having trouble installing windows 7 or any os including linux mint on my laptop! I have used parted magic to format and divide my 230GB to 3 partitions of NTFS but whenever I insert the cd windows installation does'nt boot up and I just have a black screen. (The drive works fine cos I can use a Preinstaled environment and the HDD is ok coz I can see its size and format it through the PE.)

I have two laptops: one with Windows 7 Home, and the other one with Windows 7 Ultimate.I am currently using the newer laptop with Windows 7 Home, but I would like to install Windows 7 Ultimate from the CDs I purchased (which I used for the older laptop). What do I need to do? Do I need to unregister the laptop with Ultimate or can I just install Ultimate in this newer laptop?
