Ever since then I have only used XP, but every time the computer starts up it goes into Grub and I have to choose to enter XP. Basically what I am looking to do is remove all traces of Mint and Grub and I suppose XP for that matter and upgrade to Windows 7. What is the best way to do that considering I have a netbook which does not have a CD/DVD drive?

Dec 18, 2011I was trying to install a ubuntu distribution to my primary hard drive (along side Windows 7) and at 99% of copying files the setup reported there was not sufficient memory to install backtrack. I cannot boot back into windows 7 as the computer resets before getting past the boot screen (shows 'starting windows' as normal then the screen blacks and takes me back to BIOS). this process loops unless I select windows repair option, which does not fix the problem. The Backtrack live CD won't let me delete the new, half-installed partition, so therefore I cannot change the windows partition back to it's usual (small) size of 55GB.

I want to rid of Linux and install Windows 7 Ultimate, however the only device I have to date is a 2GB SD card as I've either lost or broken my USB's or external HDD's.. Is there a way to create a bootable SD card with a small downloadable copy of Windows and install it to the HDD? Then download a 'full' copy of Windows to install that and activate it with a key?
Otherwise I'm going to have to go out and get a USB stick. Or is there an easier way with mounting etc?

Dec 17, 2012Installing W7 using an old HDD on an old machine to install W7 on a new SSD to be used on a new machine.I'm currently using this old machine from '09 and its performance levels have died down a lot. I bought all the components to build a new machine except I didn't want to spend extra money on another HDD to install the OS on my new 180GB Intel SSD. So basically, I want to use the HDD from my old computer, install W7 onto the SSD, then transfer the drive to my new computer, and use it on the machine and just reinstall all my other files.

(It was previously installed in a Dell with XP.also bought an XP SP3 OEM license CD, and followed the instructions in the tutorial on the subject. Sep 5, 2011I am doing a clean install using the upgrade DVD but on a virtual machine (on a Mac using VMWare Mac Fusion). Everything goes smooth and as per the tutorial except that once I arrive to the "Windows product key", it does not recognize the product key. I skipped that step and completed all other steps as indicated. However, I was unable to activate my windows 7 (last step) as it mentioned that the product is only for upgrade from older version and not for a clean install.
I do have windows XP copy but I would rather do a clean install.

Oct 14, 2011I downloaded and installed Ubuntu and sectioned off a part of my hard drive for it. I intended to have it set up to run both windows 7 and linux together and let me choose which boot disk I wanted to use at start up. Ubuntu took over and so I read through some forums online. I can now get to the Windows 7 loading screen but it freezes there. I have my install disc and was hoping someone could assist me with getting windows 7 back. I do not care if I loose Ubuntu. I am currently sitting with the Administrator: X:windowssystem32cmd.exe from the System Recovery Options Menu with my Windows 7 Disc in the tray.

I've done this on another machine (Dual Boot XP and Win 7) and ran into a problems with the bootloader. I learned to install older OS FIRST because of that. I'm wondering if installing Win7 32bit on a current Win7 64bit machine will cause a similar problem with bootloaders? I'd rather not have to mess with the bootloaders, but I really need to run this hardware.

Jan 23, 2012I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine. Permissions on the XP that is hosting the database is set to allow everyone. And all the XP machines can access it at the same time.

Problems:
-XP machine can see Seven machine but can't access shared folders!
-Seven machine can see XP machine but when i'm trying to see shared folders it gives me an error(see on screenshot)
-Network map doesn't work(see screenshot)
-Both machines have same workgroup MSHOME but when i go to homegroup it says there is no people in the homegroup!(see on screenshots)

Before i couldn't turn network discovery on,every time i was set it to on he was going to off so I searched on this forum(great forum) and finally i was able to turn it on,maybe others have this problem so there what i did:i go to start=>run=>services.msc and i turned on(also i switched them to automatic startup) these services DNS Client, Function Discovery Resource Publication, SSDP Discovery, and UPnP Device Host services.
IPv6 currently is enabled!

In just 7 months it has got viruses and is full of error messages, not able to uninstall the programs causing this mess, and my web browser keeps redirecting me to alternate websites which I never typed on the address bar. I am sick and think about completely deleting the whole C disk from the Windows 7 (backup my files first) and try to replace Windows 7 with some type of free Linux OS. My netbook has no CD drive nor floppy disk drive, only USB drives. My questions are:
1. Can I really get rid of all the Windows 7 files already pre-installed?
2. Can I install and run Linux OS efficiently in my netbook?

As you can understand, hitting a param and crashing can get tedious really quickly.I'm hoping there is a process that let's me isolate the app so when it crashes I can close it gracefully rather then cold booting.
