Brand New Acer Aspire Desktop PC Will Not Recognize Keyboard

Aug 22, 2012

My problem is that after turning on the power for the very first time, it will not recognize my keyboard. I have several different keyboards and I tried them all- including the Acer keyboard that came with the PC.I think my mistake was that before turning on the power, I had plugged in both an HDMI connection to my TV as well as a DVI connection to an Acer 23" monitor. Then when I powered up the PC, it defaulted to the HDMI output but I didn't realize that and was expecting it to displa on the monitor. It took me a while to figure out that it defaulted to the HDMI connection. I started out by looking at my monitor and couldn't figure out why there was no activity on the monitor. But once I switched the TV input to "HDMI 1", I saw the output was displayed on my TV.Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to recognize any keyboard now although it does make a "clicking" sound when I press keys on the keyboard. I tried to press WIN+P to change the HDMI output to show the same output on both the TV and the monitor but it seems to default to "side by side" and the only thing that I can think to do now is to pull out the power cord plug and try to re-boot with just the monitor connected and without the HDMI connection. When I hit the "power off" button, it has no effect. Should I pull out the power cord from the outlet? Or is there some other way to get it to reboot?

When I try to select "Safe Mode" during start up nothing happens. I can access the Bios during startup but get to the screen to select Safe Mode nothing on the keyboard works. Neither the arrow keys or Enter does anything. All I can do is wait for it to count down and continue startup. After the computer starts the keyboard works just fine.,Windows 7 64 bit, 4G RAM, Intel quadcore processor

No Keyboard Input At Startup?

Jul 30, 2011

I'm getting a strange problem when starting up my computer. On initial boot, one of the messages on screen is "press del to enter setup". At this point, the keyboard works fine-I can go in and change BIOS settings without any problem. However, if I let it contimue booting up, another message appears-"Press any key to boot from CD". This is the one I want, but at this point the keyboard has no effect. Even pressing F8 does nothing.

No Keyboard For Startup Repair

Jul 7, 2009

I am using an older Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard and mouse on my Windows 7 HTPC. This usually works wonderfully, except when the new startup repair screens are shown. These screens REQUIRE you to click a button (or press Enter) to continue, and will sit there for all etenerty until you do.

The problem is, they are shown before the drivers for the bluetooth keyboard and mouse are loaded, so I can not click them with out stealing a wired keyboard or mouse from my other pc. This seems like a pretty stupid choice to me, as every other such option has some kind of time-limit on it so that it will automatically continue.

Is there a way to either have the startup repair screens default to some option after a short time, or to completely disable them?

My baby likes to press the pretty blue power button on the machine, and therefore I see that screen often, and am getting tired of running for the keyboard every other time I want to sit and watch a DVD.

Keyboard And Mouse Delay At Startup?

When I boot and the Windows 7 desktop appears I can't use my keyboard and mouse for about 5 seconds. As a matter of fact none of my USB-connected periphals are available at that point. I have to note that it's my first system with a lightning fast SSD. Booting Windows to the desktop takes only 10 seconds. Maybe it's just too fast for everything to initialize?

I have no way to access any files on that computer since i have no working mouse/keyboard besides the one that wont work on that, so I need a way to fix it without accessing files that are only accessible after login.

Computer Needs Startup Repair, But Can't Use Mouse Or Keyboard?

Aug 12, 2012

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but recently on my girlfriends computer we installed a webcam and everything kinda froze. Upon restarting the computer it comes up with the screen saying a device failed and may need a startup repair. Also gives the option to start windows normally. The problem is the keyboard is not recognized to choose an option. It counts down and goes to the screen to start the startup repair, but again no mouse or keyboard. I have tried accessing the BIOS but considering the keyboard is not working i cannot do that either. I'm not sure what all is in it as I got it from a friend when he built a new one. It is a custom computer, not from a typical manufacturer. It has worked perfectly up until trying to install the webcam. I have tried using every USB port and also tried using a ps/2 converter to no avail. I'm not sure what to do anymore, and I'm afraid of messing with it too much or hard-booting it too much.

Basically when I start my computer using the keyboard in BIOS for f12 and think like that are fine but the second I get into windows login screen I cant type or use the mouse for a good 10-15 seconds which is a right pain. Anyone know why this would be happening? Or anything I can test to see what the problem is. (Mouse and keyboard work fine on other computers)

Windows 7 Won't Startup Properly - Stuck In Startup Repair Loop

Feb 18, 2012

I have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').

I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.

Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?

Windows 7 Startup: Administrator Startup Fails?

May 17, 2011

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium , Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 240 Processor, AMD64 Family 16 Model 6 Stepping 2
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 2815 Mb

[code]....

Antivirus: The Shield Deluxe Antivirus, Updated and Enabled DISPLAY MODEL: All I got with it was mouse and power cord On Startup, I get icons for the Administrator and Standard user. Clicking on the Administrator gives me a desktop with an on-screen keyboard; the computer keyboard disabled, and a panel saying,"FAILED, The application has failed to start." Going back and clicking on the Standard User icon gets me running for the most part. Here's the BIG problem. Every time I try to install any program, the User Account Control box drops down and asks for the Administrator Password, plus the question,"Do you want to allow the following programs to make changes to your computer?" You click "Yes", but, since no one is in the Administrator office, your installation comes to a halt. This blocks "Install" and "Uninstall". I get lots of messages I need Adobe Flash Player. I've trie over and again to install it, going to Windows 32 bit, but can't uninstall my previous tries. It will always download, and that's all. I've tried to install my digital camera's CD, but can't.

Windows Won't Startup, Startup Repair Can't Fix It

Aug 17, 2010

I hate it when this happens and so far, the startup repair has always been able to fix the problem. Today, I'm not so lucky.
I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.
