I'm using a GA z77x-UD5H and it has its own UEFI dualBios. I am using an external dvd drive to try and install windows 7 because I just built this pc. I have nothing on my HDD yet. All I am trying to do is figure out how to boot using the DVD drive to install windows.

I recently just build a new setup with Asus P8Z77-V LK, this motherboard comes with UEFI boot and legacy BIOS boot support.So I tested install windows 7 in both mode, and I didn't find any advantage of UEFI consider it is a new technology been promoted quite a lot for recent years.The benefit I found is: a graphic BIOS setup, which is useless to most users if you don't OC. Even you did, I still find using keyboard to navigate through the menu is much easier than mouse.Faster boot time? very negligible, could be 31 seconds compare to 28 seconds. As I timed use my stopwatch, the value could include a few seconds human error as well.Support boot from > 2.2TB HDD? nowadays most user use SSD as boot drive so this really doesn't matter.GPT disk partition? don't see any benefit here compare to legacy MBR...

The machine is setup correctly but the windows boot information is stored in a 100mb UEFI partition, and when the computer wakes on lan, it will not boot windows, just sit at a blank screen. When it wakes on lan it is trying to boot from the legacy device (same blank screen happens if you choose to boot from it from bios) ive tried updating the bios but no luck, all settings seem to be as they should be.
Is there some trick to get it to load the UEFI MBR, or is there a safe way other then reformatting the machine to move the MBR over to the legacy device itself?
I have a compaq c772 laptop, and it's internal dvd writer is damaged. I have bought a new asus external DVD-RW, but when i tried to boot from the external dvd-rw, it did not boot.on start i pressed f9 and select the asus cd-rom to boot, but after spining the disc for a while it is booting the installed version from harddisk.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThis week, I encountered the following strange problem for which I haven't found a final solution so far, though I have found some bandaids. But having a complete solution -or at least a reason why this problem occurs- would be great:I have a working installation of Windows 7 Professional x64 in UEFI mode. The main disk, SSD #1, contains the following partitions (using GPT): ESP, MSR, system, data. An additional disk, HD #2, with a single data partition (using MBR) is also attached to the system. With this setup, everything works fine.Now, after adding another disk, HD #3, to the system -my old system disk (bootable, using MBR, one active primary partition and an extend partition with three logical disks)- Windows will no longer boots completely: The boot process begins, the Windows logo is shown. Then, a message is shown in text mode "Windows is loading files" with a loading bar. After a while the boot process stops and I am dropped into the EFI shell. After removing the offending HD #3, Windows boots normally again.
I tried removing HD #2 and only attaching HD #3 together with SSD #1, but this yielded the same problem. Using SSD #1 by itself works fine though. Booting from a Linux live-cd works without problems. All disks and partitions are found and can be mounted. There, I erased the disk signature from the offending HD #3 and now Windows was able to boot and also found all disks and partitions correctly. But after a reboot the same problem reappeared
I just discovered my DVD/CD drive is not working when I attempted to launch the windows 7 iso file 64bit.
So I used isobuster to extract the files to an external harddrive ( over 300 gig). However when I try to run the setup.exe file, I get the message "setup.exe is not a valid win32 app" - not sure why? My pc has 4 gig RAM and has AMD Athlon 64 processor?
I know that you just have to plug an external hard drive in to a computer and it works right away. My problem is, I used my external hard drive so I could tape TV shows on my Bell Express Vu receiver. I disconnected the external drive and want to use it on my computer but for some reason, I can't get it to work. It shows up under Devices and it's called "Desktop". Can't see what's on it or even open it. Normally they will show up under the same area as you other drives but it won't this time.

I still have xp 32 and will install Windows 7 on an empty partition or erase the whole disk.The problem is I don't know how to make the external drive boot the image. The drive itself is connected via USB. I put the image of Windows 7 OS on the external disk but nothing happens. BIOS recognizes it as a USB device but wont boot. I tried windows7 DVD download tool which has an USB option, but it can't see the disk at all, doesn't recognizes it as a USB drive. Then I tried a small utility named Kon-Bot. It saw it as USB drive and created some sort of boot but when I tried to install the OS the installation screen of windows7 didn't come up.

The only problem is, I'm having trouble getting my nVidia Optimus card to switch to 3d acceleration (can't get Bumblebee to run).I figured I might as well avoid all the issues with trying to run games via Ubuntu and simply dual boot Win7 as well. View 4 Replies View Relatedi recently tried to upgrade my computer by installing a new OCZ Agility III SSD. I didn't really want to reinstall windows as it is an OEM install and I dont have the disk. I therefore took the supposedly easy way out and bought a OCZ SSD Upgrade kit which contained Acronis True Image HD software to "Easily Clone and Transfer Data" as per the front of the box.The existing drives were 2 Seagate 500GB drive in a RAID0 Configuration All seemed to go well with cloning the drive, booting off the SSD until I noticed that no mass storage devices I have were being recognised anymore, all of which worked perfectly with the old RAID0 drives.
I have tried everything that I can find on this forum to no avail, however, I am not a computer expert, but a reasonably competent home user. On my motherboard (Foxconn H67MP), I have 2 yellow and 4 blue SATA ports. At the moment, I have the SSD in a blue port and have left the old disks in a RAID array on the yellow ones as I think they are the only ports that support RAID. During the installation, I repartitioned the RAID drives to create a backup partition which may or may not be relevant?I have 3 External HD, 2 WD and an Iomega all of which worked before installing the SSD. The WDs are USB powered and the Iomega (shows in device manager as Samsung HD503HI) is externally powered but none of them show in disk management. I can see the drives in device manager with a yellow warning triangle, however not in disk management. I have tried uninstalling the drives, the USB controllers, disabling power management?

My external DVD works fine with the Windows 7 preinstalled in my new laptop. But when I try to re-install the Windows 7... The laptop recognizes well the external DVD The Windows 7 disc boots fine from the external DVD After that, the installation process asks for the external DVD drivers. The same thing happend with an external LG DVD.
Can I install Windows 7 for the first time, on a new computer, using an External DVD-Drive through USB? I have used 2600$ on this computer, and I think I can afford a DVD-Drive too, but i really dont need one, thats why an external one might be smarter.

So bear with me if the answer is hidden somewhere in the forum.I've got an oem asus with 2 hdds the first of which has Win 7 64 home pre-installed via uefi boot manager. It is a gpt formatted disk. The second disk is empty and is set up with mbr. I wish to dual boot onto the second disk with Win 7 32 Pro but fear a rejection due to the fact appparenly Uefi will not manage 32 bit installs/boots. More to the point , will the mbr variance on the 2nd disk somehow make for an exception to this 32bit 'prejudice' on the part of uefi or simply make matters worse? My bios has a single option regarding a legacy setting connected with uefi which is disabled. PxO.or rather. Gregrocker seems to think obviating the problem with 2 physically separate installs (i.e. Hdd disconnect) will allow a Bios based boot as opposed to a Uefi/Windows managed one. Is this workaround a sure thing and my only option or is there a practical way to go the classic route with the auto boot loader screen on start up? Perhaps a better way to put it is..on dual boot systems is it true that you can't have BOTH uefi and the bios directing the show. You gotta choose one or the other. Frankly, to my novice mind this whole problem seems to be a regression from the XP days.

I got Windows 7 up and running on the Crucial drive (connected at SATA3_1, with the WD connected and functioning on SATA3_A1) and then decided it was time to get Xubuntu up and running on the OCZ (SATA3_0). So I installed rEFInd on the Crucial's ESP and it worked - I was able to launch Windows 7 from the rEFInd menu. I then disconnected the Crucial and connected the OCZ, and installed Xubuntu. In the UEFI, I set rEFInd as the boot device/manager, and from the rEFInd menu I can select Xubuntu and Windows 7 - great. However, I can only actually boot Xubuntu; booting Windows 7 results in a Windows Error Recovery loop.Disconnecting all but the Crucial SSD, I can get into Startup Repair. The hard drive died, along with the motherboard.I purchased a new hard drive and the full version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and had the shop replace the MB, Install the new hard drive and O/S.The motherboard is an ASUS M4A785-M, with an on-board Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (according to Windows Device Manager).I have a couple of additional cards installed, one is an eSata controller for an external hard drive and the other is a SIIG DP FireWire 800 3-Port PCIe card.I initially installed the SIIG because the FireWire chip set is Texas Instruments, because I have a PreSonus Firestudio Mobile (sound card, recording hardware)and it only plays nicely with Texas Instruments. The SIIG card shows up in Device Manager under IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers as "Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller", which I "assume" is correct?
My problem is the PreSonus hardware refuses show up in Device Manager or initialize (there is an indicator light on the front of the unit that will glow blue when it is connected or flash blue-red when it isn't). PreSonus has a driver set for the Firestudio Mobile, that is called Universal Control.I have attempted to install Universal Control several times, but each attempt has resulted in failure, with the Driver version showing 0.0.0 etc. I realize this is the problem, but I have no idea how to force the issue.If I could get the PreSonus drivers to install, I would be home free (I think).he PreSonus hardware should show up in Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers, but it doesn't.I have also posted about the issue on the PreSonus forum, but haven't had any solutions posted.This computer and the hardware are what I use to run my Recording Studio and without the Firestudio, I am effectively out of business.I should also note, that I haven't even installed any other software beyond windows 7, other than a couple of utilities.
