Windows 7 32 Bit Install Fails, 64 Bit Install Works?

Jul 5, 2012

I have an OLD computer with a 2.4 GHz processor and 1 GB ram, running XP 32 bit. I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7, So I tried to install 32 bit windows 7, knowing my computer couldn't handle 64 bit. However, at the end, it simply told me "Installation Failed" and reverted to XP, with all my files. I tried multiple times, then I tried installing 64 bit windows 7, and surprisingly, it worked. However, it is laggy beyond belief, so I tried installing 32 bit again. Again the installation failed. Now I'm thinking of reverting BACK to XP.

Windows 7 Will Not Complete Install On SSD - Works Fine On HDD

Mar 6, 2012

New gaming PC project:
Asus Rampage Extreme IV
I7 3960x
32gb Gskill 2133 mhz
Sound Blaster Recon 3D
2 Corsair Force GT 60gb sata3
2 Corsair Force GT 120gb sata3
Windows 7 home 64bit w/anytime upgrade to Professional (Didn't know about the 16gb ram cap...)
9800 GTX video (ran outta money...)

The issue I'm having is everything seems fine till the first reboot, then I get errors about some random important file is missing or corrupt, please insert your DVD and repair windows or whatever the hell it says. The specified missing file is always different each install attempt (I have made about 30ish attemps so far in every drive configuration I could think of). Once it even said 'a system file' is missing or corrupt with no file specified. One attempt (120gb drives in raid0 with no other drives attached) did make it to the Windows 7 load screen, but then windows encountered an 'unknown error' and had to close while finalizing.

What I wanted to do was raid0 the 60's for boot and raid0 the 120's for games, but I can't do that because while this mb has 4 sata3 ports, only 2 ports are raid capable (Intel C600 controller) as the other 2 are on an ASMedia controller. As that is the least of my problems and only my fault for making assumptions before I buy crap, what I thought to do instead was install win on one 60 on the ASMedia sata3 controller in AHCI with OPROM enabled, use the other 60 for task file, and raid0 the 120's for game installs. At first I thought the problem was bad drives because it installs fine on my old HDDs, but all 4 drives DOA seems unlikely so I figure I'm doing something wrong.

There are multiple posts about issues with these drives on Corsair forums, however none of their solutions provide a fix. Currently I have Windows 7 installed on 2 seagate 160gb HDD's in raid0 on sata2 with both 60's on sata3 ASMedia and both 120's in raid0 on sata3 Intel C600 controller. I am convinced there is no problem with any drive as I have multiple games installed on the raid0 with task file on 1 60 and the other 60 is dedicated to ready boost. Honestly I have no idea what ready boost does, and with 32gb of ram it probably doesnt do much - but I can't think of anything else to do with the drive to see if I get any system hangs or issues.

After a week in this configuration I have had no issues whatsoever. I have run error checking from the properties tab in win for all drives, as well as chkdsk from command prompt and the disk checking utility in partedmagic which all came back no problems found. ATTO benchmark shows the the 60's around 475mb/s read/write and the 120's in raid0 are about 1100mb/s read/write. These SSD's are lightning fast. My HDD's are not - 275mb/s read/write in raid0 . Must needs faster boot.

I have tried installing win on each drive individually on each controller twice (16 attempts) and tried each set in raid0 a few times. Every attempt started out with a partition deletion and a secure erase using partedmagic AND sata3 controller in AHCI mode per Corsair forums. I have done Corsair's 1.3.3 firmware update to each drive. I have tried letting windows partition/format each drive during the install. I tried booting from my HDD's, then creating partition tables, allocating sapce, and formatting the SSD's from disk management, then installing win on the drives already setup. And a few other various things in different orders.

My steps for the 1 result that yeilded and actual Windows 7 loading screen after 1st reboot:
- 2 120gb ssd's on Intel C600 sata3
- Enter bios - change sata from raid to ahci - exit
-Boot with partedmagic bootdisk - deleted partitions both drives - system suspend for drive reset - secure erase both drives - shutdown
- Plugged in 2 160gb hdd to sata2
- Enter bios - change sata from ahci to raid - exit
- Enter raid setup utility - create raid0 on 120gb ssd's with 32kb strip - exit
- Boot win from hdd - create MBR partition table, allocate all avail space, format NTFS (not quick format) - shutdown
- Unplugged 2 160gb hdd
- Boot from Windows 7 install disk - install to SSD raid volume - 1st reboot yeilds load screen then 'unknown error', but I guess it was some-what better than windows failed to start due to whatever random file missing or corrupt.

Clean Install, Crash After Windows 7 Logo, Works Before?

Nov 20, 2011

i bought a new setup, moved all old stuff to another empty computer case or what.the only i didnt moved to the old case was the PSU and some harddrives. first time i started the computer with the SSD (with functional OS of win7x64)everything works fine.. but it crashed some random times inside the windows, i thought it was because of the drivers, i got that fixed by removing one graficcardSo i thought it was better to whip all the data from SSD and make a clean installation, stability installation.i wipe the SSD drive from my old OS and installed a new one, in one step of the win7x64 installation, it crash and wont boot upstrange, i had not been at the bios with my fingers, after trying with some solution in 6h i change the ODC-> marvellSata6G controller to AHCI mode, main -> storage configuration to ACHI, in bios. Wont work.. I tried to change them to IDE, wont work either. I removed the two others ram sticks, it wont work either..uhm,the total time i been working of this in three days to get a clean Windows 7 to boot at this motherboardat last.. i luckly installed the OS to the SSD at my new setup and then move it to the old setup. That works.. first time, then the computer wont boot windows again.

Install An Old Program Which Works On Windows 7 32bit Onto Windows 7 64bit?

Mar 7, 2012

I have an old DOS cookbook program which contains all my old recipes from many years. I have it installed on my Windows 7 32-bit system and would like to put it on my laptop for use on the road. Laptop is Windows 7 64-bit and I get a message that it is not compatible. Is there a workaround so I can use that program on the 64-bit system? I tried choosing the compatibility to work with Windows XP 3 but still get that incompatible message.

User Switching No Longer Works After SP1 Install

Mar 21, 2011

Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit. Not on a domain. After I installed SP1, "Switch User" disappeared as an option. "Hide entry points for Fast User Switching" in GP Editor is set to Not Configured.

I also checked the Application Information service as Andre suggested, and it was not running. I started it, set it to automatic startup, and rebooted. Still no joy.

I have uninstalled SP1, and I now have the option to switch users as I did before installing SP1.

I'd prefer to keep my system updated, but for this system anyway, the ability to switch users as opposed to logging off is more important.

Impossible To Install Security Update For Microsoft Works 9 (KB2680317)

Apr 14, 2012

Finding it impossible to install Security Update for Microsoft Works 9 (KB2680317) from WIndows Update
Details Download size: 2.1 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
Update type: Important

A security vulnerability exists in Microsoft Works 9 that could allow arbitrary code to run when a maliciously modified file is opened. This update resolves that vulnerability. I get error code 646. All other updates are installing successfully - have also run the Windows Update "fixit" which is the only available way from MS but makes no difference. I don't routinely open any files unless I am sure of their provenance so I'm not overly concerned - it's just annoying to have constant update failures on this one. Not even sure I have Works 9 ...although obviously it thinks I do ....

HP Dv9000 9930us - Constant BSOD After Install Only Works In Safe Mode

Oct 27, 2009

I've got:

HP notebook a Pavillion dv9000 9930us
4 gig DDR2 SDRAM
Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS
320 gig HD
Was: Windows Vista Home Premium x64
Now: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

and windows 7 does not love me. Every time I install things look to be going smoothly, then on the first boot (and from then on) every time I try to access any admin privileges I get the BSOD usually from IRQ, or page memory or a number of messages and the computer immediately reboots. This isn't a problem when I'm in safe mode, but when I'm there it shows that all the hardware is installed and working. Even then safe mode only gives me about 2 hours before it BSODs again.

Does this laptop just hate windows 7 or is there something I can do about this?

Windows 7 Install Stuck At 0% On "expanding Files" But Works Off USB

Jul 11, 2012

I torrented a windows 7 install disc iso. I burned it to a disc but when i tried to install windows 7 it gets to "expanding files" and freezes at 0% . After that i tried using the exact same iso but from a thumb drive, and it worked. I tried the disc on multiple computers and it always sticks at 0% on expanding files. I have also reburned the iso multiple times and it still doesn't work. If i use a jump drive it always works. I know someone is gonna say that its the iso because i got it from a torrent, but the same iso works from a usb drive so it cant be that. I know someone is gonna say it is the optical drive, but i have tried it on 3 different computers with optical drives that i know work but it still sticks at 0% so its not that. Its also is not that i haven't waited long enough because i have left it for multiple hours and it still didn't move from 0%. I suspect that its an little feature in the burning program that i overlooked during the burn process.

When crashing, it does a slow crash, where I can move the mouse around, but the startbar and any other programs dont respond. Explorer then crashes, followed shortly by a bluescreen.

Troubles Installing Windows (clean Install) - Error Code 0x80070017

Apr 15, 2012

Just inherited a pc, and bought a brand new 1tb hdd yesterday to install windows on. I was foolish at first by not changing any of the bios settings (was a long time since I have done an install) and just left it as it was. I got through to installing windows and it stopped at expanding files with the above error code, which I have heard is really commonWindows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required or installation are available, and restart the installation. Now I am certain there is nothing wrong with the DVD, as it is the same one that has been used on two other PC's. I tried turning it off and restarting, that was when I got another error load up - Bootmgr is missing! After this I restarted it and changed the bios settings to boot from the DVD drive. I tried doing a repair on this through the disc.

Went through all the settings and typed Bootrec.exe/REBUILDBCD in command prompt but that came back fine. I tried clicking startup repair after this but it did not restart, so I just went through the motions and restarted it manually as by this point I was getting frustrated. Upon restart I went through and booted from the DVD, and it went straight through. This time I tried re-installing but deleted all the partitions on the drive which had appeared since trying to install. However the same error message has come up again

Installing HDD Unsigned Drivers X64 Fresh Install

Jan 8, 2013

I recently wiped my main HDD to perform a clean install of windows however after choosing to do the advanced install windows alerts me that drivers for the HDD's are missing. When I go to load my drivers from my USB the setup gives me an error that it cannot find the driver files from the USB in the folder I stored them in however it detects the 32 bit versions I have saved. I proceed with those, choose the 64 bit OS and proceed with the installation however this just throws my comp into a boot loop when it reaches the restart part of the install most likely from the computer having the 32 bit drivers. The next time I try to install i proceed by loading the 32 bit drivers and then when told to choose the HDD to install the OS I click the load drivers button, this time it detects the 64 bit drivers however will not let me install them as they are not digitally signed. I have a feeling setting my HDDs to AHCI in my boot options will allow me to install without all of the driver problems. However I have been told that doing so would wipe my data HDD that I currently have all my stuff on.

Install Movie Maker 2009 Without Installing Directx 3d 9?

Jun 9, 2012

i needed to edit a short clip, i already have pinnacle video spin, but i use that for longer videos, not for 20, 30 secs clips, i just wanted to add text to the video.

i remember that i find for an alternative to moviemaker time ago because moviemaker can export in 30fps, but ok i am fine with pinnacle, but for short clips i want to use moviemaker.

The problem is that in the intallation, in the list of stuff that it will install with it, it is Directx 3d 9, i already have directx 11, and i dont want to downgrade. i have read in many forum that it doesn't overwrite it because after installation it can be verified in dxdiag, i don't know what happen, but even when dxdiag says that directx 11 is there, there is a noticeable decrease in video performance AFTER the installation of the software that ask for directx9 what i suspect, that directx WAS installed but for some reason dxdiag still shows directx 11.

i dont know WHY moviemaker can't detect directx 11 and to work with that, it's the same unresolved case of the nero 7 on windows 7, that ask for the directx 9 too. and if not, it can't be installed
