External HDD Works In Windows 7 / Doesn't Work In XP
Sep 2, 2011I have a seagate 2 TB external HDD. It has 1 FAT32 partition. Everything works as expected in Windows Vista/7 and even in Ubuntu.When connecting the external HDD to any XP machine (tested 3 computers with XP), the device will not show up under My Computer.It is visible in Device Manager.Under Disk Management, the drive shows up without any labelling and has improper file system and partitioning.It's as though the partition table is messed up, however, the drive works perfectly on any Vista/Windows 7/Linux pc. [code] Not only is the capacity incorrect, but darn well everything else about the drive shows up incorrect under Disk Management.This happens with all XP PCs. Also, I ran a SFC /SCANNOW with one XP machine in the event the FAT32 drivers or DLLs were corrupted and no resolve.I reinstalled XP on the same machine and the results were identical.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit and it started installing the drivers, first it was installing "HID Wireless Mouse", then it switched to "USB Input Device" but failed after 3 seconds. now it's listed in Device Manager as "USB Input Device" with yellow sign that indicates it doesn't work. I tested it in 2 other Windows 7 32bit computers and it works just fine! installing drivers and everything. moreover - I testes my bro's logitech wireless mouse on my 64bit Windows 7 computer and it works fine. I think Windows fails on recognizing it. I mean the drivers are there.. the Logitech Mouse works but mine doesn't.. how do I make it work?

Windows 7 32 Bit Install Fails, 64 Bit Install Works?
Jul 5, 2012I have an OLD computer with a 2.4 GHz processor and 1 GB ram, running XP 32 bit. I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7, So I tried to install 32 bit windows 7, knowing my computer couldn't handle 64 bit. However, at the end, it simply told me "Installation Failed" and reverted to XP, with all my files. I tried multiple times, then I tried installing 64 bit windows 7, and surprisingly, it worked. However, it is laggy beyond belief, so I tried installing 32 bit again. Again the installation failed. Now I'm thinking of reverting BACK to XP.

The issue I'm having is everything seems fine till the first reboot, then I get errors about some random important file is missing or corrupt, please insert your DVD and repair windows or whatever the hell it says. The specified missing file is always different each install attempt (I have made about 30ish attemps so far in every drive configuration I could think of). Once it even said 'a system file' is missing or corrupt with no file specified. One attempt (120gb drives in raid0 with no other drives attached) did make it to the Windows 7 load screen, but then windows encountered an 'unknown error' and had to close while finalizing.
What I wanted to do was raid0 the 60's for boot and raid0 the 120's for games, but I can't do that because while this mb has 4 sata3 ports, only 2 ports are raid capable (Intel C600 controller) as the other 2 are on an ASMedia controller. As that is the least of my problems and only my fault for making assumptions before I buy crap, what I thought to do instead was install win on one 60 on the ASMedia sata3 controller in AHCI with OPROM enabled, use the other 60 for task file, and raid0 the 120's for game installs. At first I thought the problem was bad drives because it installs fine on my old HDDs, but all 4 drives DOA seems unlikely so I figure I'm doing something wrong.
There are multiple posts about issues with these drives on Corsair forums, however none of their solutions provide a fix. Currently I have Windows 7 installed on 2 seagate 160gb HDD's in raid0 on sata2 with both 60's on sata3 ASMedia and both 120's in raid0 on sata3 Intel C600 controller. I am convinced there is no problem with any drive as I have multiple games installed on the raid0 with task file on 1 60 and the other 60 is dedicated to ready boost. Honestly I have no idea what ready boost does, and with 32gb of ram it probably doesnt do much - but I can't think of anything else to do with the drive to see if I get any system hangs or issues.
After a week in this configuration I have had no issues whatsoever. I have run error checking from the properties tab in win for all drives, as well as chkdsk from command prompt and the disk checking utility in partedmagic which all came back no problems found. ATTO benchmark shows the the 60's around 475mb/s read/write and the 120's in raid0 are about 1100mb/s read/write. These SSD's are lightning fast. My HDD's are not - 275mb/s read/write in raid0 . Must needs faster boot.
I have tried installing win on each drive individually on each controller twice (16 attempts) and tried each set in raid0 a few times. Every attempt started out with a partition deletion and a secure erase using partedmagic AND sata3 controller in AHCI mode per Corsair forums. I have done Corsair's 1.3.3 firmware update to each drive. I have tried letting windows partition/format each drive during the install. I tried booting from my HDD's, then creating partition tables, allocating sapce, and formatting the SSD's from disk management, then installing win on the drives already setup. And a few other various things in different orders.
My steps for the 1 result that yeilded and actual Windows 7 loading screen after 1st reboot:
- 2 120gb ssd's on Intel C600 sata3
- Enter bios - change sata from raid to ahci - exit
-Boot with partedmagic bootdisk - deleted partitions both drives - system suspend for drive reset - secure erase both drives - shutdown
- Plugged in 2 160gb hdd to sata2
- Enter bios - change sata from ahci to raid - exit
- Enter raid setup utility - create raid0 on 120gb ssd's with 32kb strip - exit
- Boot win from hdd - create MBR partition table, allocate all avail space, format NTFS (not quick format) - shutdown
- Unplugged 2 160gb hdd
- Boot from Windows 7 install disk - install to SSD raid volume - 1st reboot yeilds load screen then 'unknown error', but I guess it was some-what better than windows failed to start due to whatever random file missing or corrupt.

I removed the two others ram sticks, it wont work either..uhm,the total time i been working of this in three days to get a clean Windows 7 to boot at this motherboardat last.. i luckly installed the OS to the SSD at my new setup and then move it to the old setup. That works.. first time, then the computer wont boot windows again.

Wireless Internet Works, Wired Connection Doesn't Work
Dec 3, 2011I formatted both my laptop and desktop computer. When i did with my laptop, everything was great. Wireless still worked. Of course i have my linksys router connected to get the wireless.
I then formatted my desktop. Its a dell. When i did this, everything seemed great. However, i noticed that if i remove my wireless router and just connect my cable modem wired, it works. However, when i connect my wireless router, then my wireless internet works but my WIRED connection does not work. It has this message that says can't connect.
I don't think this has ever happened before. I mean, there were many times where my desktop got formatted and my wired internet worked and i could not get my wireless connection to work. But never had i had my wireless work and my wired connection not work. The one thing i did this time was after i installed the drivers with my windows cd, i then deleted the old windows file that was about 25 gb.
DVD/CDROM Not Working After Update?
Apr 13, 2011After the latest update my dvd drive, which is an hl-dt-st-dvdram gt32n is not showing in windows explorer. I cannot burn anything. Windows explorer hangs repeatedly and I can't do a clean shutdown at all. I went to device manager and it told me that Windows did not start a related device driver. I tried to update the driver but the scan is still running after 2 hours. I'm running window 7 x64 home premium with 4GB of memory. The computer is an asus k52f core i3.

Jul 11, 2012I torrented a windows 7 install disc iso. I burned it to a disc but when i tried to install windows 7 it gets to "expanding files" and freezes at 0% . After that i tried using the exact same iso but from a thumb drive, and it worked. I tried the disc on multiple computers and it always sticks at 0% on expanding files. I have also reburned the iso multiple times and it still doesn't work. If i use a jump drive it always works. I know someone is gonna say that its the iso because i got it from a torrent, but the same iso works from a usb drive so it cant be that. I know someone is gonna say it is the optical drive, but i have tried it on 3 different computers with optical drives that i know work but it still sticks at 0% so its not that. Its also is not that i haven't waited long enough because i have left it for multiple hours and it still didn't move from 0%. I suspect that its an little feature in the burning program that i overlooked during the burn process.

May 1, 2012I am stuck at the completing installation stage after reboot. Heres what I've tried:
Removing all but 1 stick of ram
Only have the HDD im installing to plugged in
Using the mobo vga with video card undone
Have all USB devices unplugged ( except keyboard )
Disabling everything in "Other" in device manager
Disabled display driver in device manager
I received this error in the event log: Cd rom has bad block under the administrative tab

Mar 21, 2011Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit. Not on a domain. After I installed SP1, "Switch User" disappeared as an option. "Hide entry points for Fast User Switching" in GP Editor is set to Not Configured.
I also checked the Application Information service as Andre suggested, and it was not running. I started it, set it to automatic startup, and rebooted. Still no joy.
I have uninstalled SP1, and I now have the option to switch users as I did before installing SP1.
I'd prefer to keep my system updated, but for this system anyway, the ability to switch users as opposed to logging off is more important.
