My external cdrom is no longer detected in windows 7. Also could not get a Compaq laptop running vista to recognise an internal cdrom. I tried the registry edit described in several fora but to no avail.

When I try to install Windows 7 from an USB stick on an Asus EeePC 1201HAB with a Kingston SSDNow V series 120GB the process freezes when I try to install Windows 7 Home Premium or format on the ssd.
Even installing from an external dvd player results in the same problem, when Windows starts to copy files during installation, the proces freezes every time. The ssd itself is working, I checked that in another system. Could it be a problem with the combination of a Kingston SSDNow V series in the Asus eeePC 1201HAB?
After the latest update my dvd drive, which is an hl-dt-st-dvdram gt32n is not showing in windows explorer. I cannot burn anything. Windows explorer hangs repeatedly and I can't do a clean shutdown at all. I went to device manager and it told me that Windows did not start a related device driver. Can anyone tell me, if the "Microsoft Windows Anytime Upgrade - Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional Operating System Software" that you see addvertised everywhere, is a CDrom or download application. Seems silly to me they would sell us a box just to find download instructions inside but...
"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)" Drives (2) are present but do not show in my Tree and are not usable in this state. I cannot get them to work and can therefore not update with the discs.

The Dell Inspiron, with Windows 7, we bought our daughter last year worked fine until she left last May for an internship. We ran scan disc before the lap top was packed. When she arrived at her destinaction it did not work. According to the Geek squad, the hardware works fine, but there is not an operation system on the laptop. The laptop did not come with discs, but it has the Windows 7 label on the back with the product code. But when emailing Micrsoft support, they only want the PID which can't be retrieved from a computer that doesn't have an operating system.
I have had Windows 7 installed on my PC.Last night I installed Windows XP Professional (as i have some programs that do not work on 7) on my PC. I had intended it to be a sort of double boot with Windows 7 i.e. i wanted to have a boot selecter where i can choose whether to boot XP or 7. However my PC now directly boots into XP and does not allow me boot into 7.Is there a way to re-insert Windows 7 into the mbr so that i can have a choose which OS i want to boot?.
my Windows 7 System restore has disappeared, I have Windows 7 HP 64bit and System Restore has suddenly disappeared from the Windows Start Menu. I usually go to the Windows Start Orb, Accessories, and it's listed under System Tools. Don't know when or why it disappeared. I heard that this was quite common, but no luck in finding a solution. Can you guide me on how to get it back? Also any explanation as to why this may have happened, so that in the future I can prevent it from happening again.
A week ago 200GB just disappeared on my computer. I found a file that is 188GB on my computer, but not a clue what it is. I found it using WinDirStat .
About a week ago thumbnail images suddenly stopped showing (mainly .jpgs & .pngs) in several of my folders. It seemed to be fairly random across all folders & drives (2 partitions on C drive) whereby some display correctly within a folder but most now show as windows photo viewer icons.Images uploaded in "My Pictures Folder" on C drive are not affected.
I have done the obvious:- 1. in folder options > always show icons, never thumbnails (unchecked) 2. deleted & rebuilt the thumbnail cache 3. run malwares scans (system is clean) 4. done restores (Microsoft & Adobe updates) 5. selected medium icons to view . . .
Also, using the Windows Photo Viewer default preview pane no longer works if Id/click on an image it opens in a new window.I had been using Mystic Thumbs successfully for a while to enable me to see .svg, .pspimages & .psd files (as a graphic designer I want quick access to these) Uninstalling it hasn't made any difference.
I've installed last week VMware on my laptop with Windows 7 home premium edition (Italian version). Then I've installed XP professional (English version licenced) from my Cd. Everything was going fine. Today I would install an Xp software but on the programm list I cannot find the VMware software, it disappeared, I've looking in the Windows/programs to find an exe file for it without finding one.

I have a hp550 with installed windows 7 32bit. Recently i noticed i could not run CD or DVD on my computer. On troubleshooting i was told that some of the registry files have been corrupted.
I'm using a 500GB hard drive that is split in to 2 partitions. The primary partition is 50GB, primarily for the OS. The second is the rest of the usable space on the drive, and has all the photos, documents, etc stored on the computer. Today I decided to finally install the Windows 7 RC that I've had sitting around. I moved over any important information on the C drive, the primary partition, over to the D drive, the larger partition, popped the disk in, and in setup, formatted the C drive. I finished the install without incident, but upon getting in to Windows 7, found my second, larger partition, had vanished.
I installed Windows 7 home premium fresh on my brand new WD Cav Blk HDD. During the installation, I created a "new" partition called system reserve which is 100MB.Once my system was set up and Win 7 running, I checked under My computer and noticed that there is no system reserve there. How can it have vanished?
