View 1 Replies View RelatedI have owned a Toshiba Satellite L505d laptop running windows 7 for almost 3 years now. I have been clearing out files and backing them up onto external hard drive. I noticed my computer had used 225gb of the allotted 250gb on my hard drive, but I couldn't find the culprit of what was taking up all that space. I had emptied out the folders I use for image and video files. Program files only accounted for about 25 gb, but when i checked a folder called ATI (assuming the drivers of the video card on my pc) it accounted for 200gb of space. Is it safe to delete this data?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2TB hard drive which i have partitioned into 3 partitions, (249GB for C:, 1000GB for D: data, 613GB for E: data). Now the 1000GB partition which is filled with data has disappeared from My computer. It happened after installing a dual boot with linux and using the 613GB as unallocated space for the linux partitions, (I have since removed the linux and partitions on the E: 613GB and created a ntfs primary partition again).
I have uploaded a screenshot that you can see that partition is not in my computer and in Disk management it only shows by "Disk 0" and not under volumes. I have tried using 'Diskpart' To assign a drive letter but under 'list volume' nothing appears. I have also done a a partition details which shows no volume, dont know if I am able to merge the partition in anyway or if the partition table that needs to be fixed

For he past 3 days my Slimtype DVD player was not noticed by my laptop at all. Even worse, my device manager does not recognize the DVD drive even though the drive is in working order (i.e. it can still open and close). This drive has worked well enough for the past five years and has been working properly until I installed some updates from the Windows update center. But I don't which update(s) caused my DVD drive to disappear. So after numerous attempts to fix the problem through Microsoft's Fix It Service (Boo!) I decided to restore my computer to its factory settings (OS: Windows Vista 32-bit) hoping that would restore the functionality of my DVD Drive. Alas, that did not even work! The only remnant of my DVD's functionality with Windows a registry key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/DeviceClasses/{53f56308-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}/##?#IDE#CdRomSlimtype_DVD_A__DS8A1H__________________WH66____#5&50caa7d&0&0.0.0#{53f56308-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}
as shown by the following image but nowhere else. I have tried everything to fix this problem from the removing the upper filters and lower filters to reformatting my computer. Is their any other possible problem with my DVD?

When she arrived at her destinaction it did not work. According to the Geek squad, the hardware works fine, but there is not an operation system on the laptop. The laptop did not come with discs, but it has the Windows 7 label on the back with the product code. But when emailing Micrsoft support, they only want the PID which can't be retrieved from a computer that doesn't have an operating system.

I had intended it to be a sort of double boot with Windows 7 i.e. i wanted to have a boot selecter where i can choose whether to boot XP or 7. However my PC now directly boots into XP and does not allow me boot into 7.Is there a way to re-insert Windows 7 into the mbr so that i can have a choose which OS i want to boot?.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy Windows 7 System restore has disappeared, I have Windows 7 HP 64bit and System Restore has suddenly disappeared from the Windows Start Menu. I usually go to the Windows Start Orb, Accessories, and it's listed under System Tools. Don't know when or why it disappeared. I heard that this was quite common, but no luck in finding a solution. Can you guide me on how to get it back? Also any explanation as to why this may have happened, so that in the future I can prevent it from happening again.
View 29 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago thumbnail images suddenly stopped showing (mainly .jpgs & .pngs) in several of my folders. It seemed to be fairly random across all folders & drives (2 partitions on C drive) whereby some display correctly within a folder but most now show as windows photo viewer icons.Images uploaded in "My Pictures Folder" on C drive are not affected.
I have done the obvious:-
1. in folder options > always show icons, never thumbnails (unchecked)
2. deleted & rebuilt the thumbnail cache
3. run malwares scans (system is clean)
4. done restores (Microsoft & Adobe updates)
5. selected medium icons to view . . .
Also, using the Windows Photo Viewer default preview pane no longer works if Id/click on an image it opens in a new window.I had been using Mystic Thumbs successfully for a while to enable me to see .svg, .pspimages & .psd files (as a graphic designer I want quick access to these) Uninstalling it hasn't made any difference.
I've installed last week VMware on my laptop with Windows 7 home premium edition (Italian version). Then I've installed XP professional (English version licenced) from my Cd. Everything was going fine. Today I would install an Xp software but on the programm list I cannot find the VMware software, it disappeared, I've looking in the Windows/programs to find an exe file for it without finding one.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using a 500GB hard drive that is split in to 2 partitions. The primary partition is 50GB, primarily for the OS. The second is the rest of the usable space on the drive, and has all the photos, documents, etc stored on the computer. Today I decided to finally install the Windows 7 RC that I've had sitting around. I moved over any important information on the C drive, the primary partition, over to the D drive, the larger partition, popped the disk in, and in setup, formatted the C drive. I finished the install without incident, but upon getting in to Windows 7, found my second, larger partition, had vanished.
