I installed a new ssd drive and cloned my c drive onto it. It also cloned my system reserved partion [about 25 megabytes]. I then, at a later date, cloned my c drive [now my new ssd drive] again back to my old primary drive so that i have an up to date copy of my primary drive. But it also cloned my system reserved partion. Can i delete some of these system reserved partions. I now have 3 of them! It makes my computer look very untidy. What ones should i leave or do i need to leave them all?

I recently set up a new Systemax SYX-1113 PC with a SSD (C:) for Win 7 Pro and a 1TB HDD (G:) for my user libraries and programs. I need to upgrade the HDD from a 1GB to a 2 GB drive so I cloned the 1TB (G:) drive to a new 2TB (H:) drive. My new challenge is figuring out how to switch the drive letters on the two HDDs so that Windows looks to the new drive for the user directories and program files. I tried using disk manager in Windows 7 and got the BSOD - I guess it didn't like me changing the location of the active user profile. I assume I need to boot the PC from something other than the C: drive to make the change.

Kingston Technology is instructing customers to return certain models of its memory sticks, after the firm discovered a glitch in its DataTraveler Secure flash drives.
The company said in a security notice that the models affected were “privacy” editions of the DataTraveler Secure, DataTraveler Elite and DataTraveler Blackbox.
Kingston said the security flaw could allow a wrongdoer to hack into the memory sticks. “A skilled person with the proper tools and physical access to the drives may be able to gain unauthorized access to data,” warned the vendor.
Kingston added that a number of its USB drives were not affected by the security flaw.
Customers whose drives could be exploited by the security loophole should return the product, where Kingston said it would apply a factory update.
Kingston had claimed that its Data Traveler Secure drive was the first of its kind to protect “100 percent of data on-the-fly via 256-bit hardware-based AES encryption.”

Before I even go further: yes, the "hide empty drives" has been unchecked)I had to reinstall my machine and I was able to to see the drive letters for the internal flash card reader. However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.

I have some files that I would like to hide from anyone that may use my computer. I already know how to hide folders/files in the 'folder and search options.' However, when I hide my files/folders and then search for one of the file names in the Start Menu search bar, the file will show up despite it be hidden and the 'Do not show hidden files' option is checked. I also attempted to put a password on the folder (one folder has all the files I want hidden) using this site for a guideline: How to create a Password Protected Folder in Windows 7hen I lock the folder, I can still search for the files in the Start Menu search bar and they will open without the password. Is there a better site or program to effectively lock my folder/files? And what can I do to prevent the Start Up search from looking for my hidden files.

Im starting to work with powershell and try to port my old batch files.
1)I got this lines of Code, and I dont know who to convert them to power shell. The goal is to uninstall a software using the string found in the registry.[code]
2) In former times I used PsExe to remotly execute scripts on remote positions. What would be the best practice for power shell.
3) Another question is if it is posible with power shell to tell the system (Windows 7 and/or Xp)to do a Windows System Update and install all critical updates?

I have an issue with DVD playback in both MP and MC. This doesn't happen with every DVD I play, but with many of them. The volume on the vocal portion is very low to the point of being inaudible. The background noises and music are all perfectly loud. I'm guessing it's because DVD audio is on multiple channels and there's something wrong with the way my system is handling one of them?
I'm using a SB Audigy SE.
The issue persisted after installing the drivers and utilities from the CD and after installing the Shark007 codec/filter pack. This computer is my media center so I really need DVD playback to work.
Any ideas?

I am running Windows 7 premium. The taskbar/notification/clock area @ the bottom of my desktop is huge, like nearly an inch. The Time, Day and Date are one below the other. This takes up so much space especially when u have multiple toolbars, address bar etc @ the top not 2 mention the additional loss of space (of nothingness) @ the top. Leaves less working space than I'm happy with. How do I gain back the use of that half inch in the taskbar? Is it possible 2 gain back the lost area @ the top as well?.I have already gone to Properties and changed the settings there (use small icons). It made no difference at all.

Seen several different posts about this issue but really no definitive answer as to why is occurring. Never happened with XP or Vista only Windows 7. Seems most users with this issue report having a Dell computer but mine is a Toshiba Satellite L505. I just find it very annoying to have approximately half inch of desktop space visible on top of any type maximized window, browser window, explorer window, whatever.

I've been trying to install Windows 7 for days now...with no luck at all so far...and I'm getting quiet frustrated as you can imagine.
The installation always stops after the installer loads the files, screen freezes on the windows logo, and the progress bar stops immediately stops moving (or it freezes even before the logo is even fully displayed). The DVD then stops and no matter how long I wait nothing happens from there. If I run the text mode install, it stops on disk.sys.
I've looked everywhere on the net and tried many things:
unplugged anything not necessary during install (all usb, got rid of sound card, tried another graphic card, removed ram, switched ram position)
cleared cmos, no change
bios: disabled all unecessary (floppy (I don't use any) enabled/disabled parallel/serial port (for some it was a fix on other mobo's...or so I have read), messed around with lots of settings
tried other DVD drive, burned another DVD.
Now this issue isn't new to me, since I have never been able to install vista either. xp and ubuntu gave me a lot of problems too, but with xp pressing F7 during the initial loading would solve the issue and the install would run fine, on ubuntu adding no acpi would also allow install. With vista and windows 7 setup, pressing F7 during the file load doesn't apparently work, and I don't know how to bypass the acpi check.
If I try to run the install within xp, I get a compatibility report saying that my computer isn't acpi compatible...while the k7s8x bios clearly says it is. I tried enabling/disabling the acpi in the bios and it makes no difference (my bios is the last available, the 2.60)
I have seen people asking for k7s8x lan drivers for windows 7 on this forum, so I guess it is possible to install vista/windows 7 on this mobo after all.
Any suggestions welcome, as I'm completely out of ideas now!

So I just built my new computer and fired up my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit disc. The setup files load, the Windows logo video plays, the pretty blue screen with the flowers in the corner appears and my cursor has the rotating green circle indicating something is happening.
Then the circle stops spinning and disappears. At this point it appears the installation freezes. Pressing any keys or moving the mouse does nothing. I have to restart the computer. Same thing happens. Any off-the-bat suggestions before I start troubleshooting hardware?
My hard drives are in a RAID configuration per the M/B controller and a mirror volume has been created on the disk. I have one IDE DVD rom drive (the only part of the computer that's not brand new) and one additional HD audio card installed. The system is stable in the BIOS.

I enabled the Admin account and wanted to set password but it put up a warning that doing this would erase all EFS encrypted files, personal certificates and stored passwords for web sites or network resources. To avoid losing data in the future ask the Admin to make a password reset floppy disk. What the heck does that all mean? Is there already one on it set up by default?

The bosses wife has a new Toshiba P500 configured with a 64gSSD as a C: drive and a 320gHHD for a D: drive. I'm about to take it from Vista to W7. While backing it up I noticed the SSD was full. Since it's the C: drive windows is storing everything on it.
I would imagine that the best thing would be to put the OS on the SSD and everything else on the HHD, but if the user uses My Documents, My Music, My Pictures etc. folder it will all go on the SSD drive and fill it up. Does anyone know a quick fix to make W7 store data on the D: drive? Any other ideas on how I should set this up for a 'non power user' user?

Got a nice new had drive from Mr. Clause, however I only have one SATA power connector. I don't know if the new drive is formatted, and I don't know if the drive is new or second hand.
If I could format the drive from within the Windows 7 setup menu, I could leave the XP HDD without any power and just plug the power into the 7-to-be drive, which would save me the effort of going out on boxing and buying the IDE-SATA power adapter.
So can I format the drive within setup?

I currently have Windows 7 installed on drive C: I was doing things that I shouldn't and the OS became unusable. I want to format the drive and reinstall windows. I don't want to create a Windows.old folder, I want a clean formatted drive with a new installation of windows 7.From the install CD I click on "customize" and then when prompted where to install Windows I click on "drive options" but from there, it will not let me remove, delete, or format any of my partitions as they are all grayed out. Why won't Windows 7 install let me format the drive for a clean install? There's 4 partitions listed?
1. o data, unallocated
2. 100mb system reserved
3. 698gb primary HDD?
4. 0 data unallocated
