View 7 Replies View RelatedI have some files that I would like to hide from anyone that may use my computer. I already know how to hide folders/files in the 'folder and search options.' However, when I hide my files/folders and then search for one of the file names in the Start Menu search bar, the file will show up despite it be hidden and the 'Do not show hidden files' option is checked. I also attempted to put a password on the folder (one folder has all the files I want hidden) using this site for a guideline: How to create a Password Protected Folder in Windows 7hen I lock the folder, I can still search for the files in the Start Menu search bar and they will open without the password. Is there a better site or program to effectively lock my folder/files? And what can I do to prevent the Start Up search from looking for my hidden files.

I'm using an application called MediaPortal which runs in fullscreen and hides the task bar, so it's fine while MediaPortal is running. But whenever I launch external applications or start/shut down the computer, the taskbar is visible for a few seconds?

View 2 Replies View Relatedlosing access to your Administrators account I figured now would be a good time to setup a secondary FULL Administrators account. I have done that.
But what I'm looking to do is HIDE that secondary account from the welcome screen and if I need it hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to the old style log on screen and type in the secondary user name and password.
In XP it was easy to hide user accounts from showing on the Welcome screen with the Powertoys add on. I'm not finding it that easy in 7. In fact most of what I have read states that the only way to do this it to set the account as NOT ACTIVE. I don't want to do that. I want it active I just don't want to see it on the Welcome screen.
Recently on a site that explained how to install Windows 7 upgrade there was info on how to remove your Windows 7 Activation Key after activation.
The reason I want to do this is so that someone can't run Magic Jelly Bean and reveal my key. This happened before so that fix explaining hiding or removing it sounds great.
I've searched high and low and can't find this info anymore. Has anyone heard of how to do this?
I was just in Windows Explorer, planning to modify my Startup programs. Navigated to "C:/ Windows7_OS / Users" and right-clicked on my User Profile "Bill". From the right-click menu, I selected "Properties", and then on the "General" tab, there is a checkbox under Attributes called "Hidden". I thought, "oh great, I will check this and then I will be able to see all of my hidden files".I selected "Hidden", and clicked "Apply".Now my User Profile "Bill" is hidden, and I cannot figure out how to unhide it. Everything associated with my User Profile is now hidden application shortcuts, My Favorites, etc.Can anyone tell me how to "Un-Hide" my User Profile?

I use my PC for general use, gaming and web development. Currently have Windows Ultimate. What I am aiming for, is to have three accounts, General / Gaming / WebDev and have different programs installed on each. However, I do not want the other accounts to SEE these programs (I know I can just hide program icons etc). But want I want it to replicate, is like having three separate windows 7 machines... just with 3 different accounts.I know this can be done with a client-server set up.. but this is not really something I want to get into...I know applocker can deny access.. this is fine.. but ideally I would want the accounts to not even have visibility of the programs, not just be denied the permission to access them.Could I install the programs to the user account folder for each account? I think this would do what I want, but is this a good practice to do?
