Working With Multiple Monitors Does Not Allow Multiple Desktops
Sep 7, 2012I have attached a second monitor to my laptop which runs Windows 7, however, I need to set different resolutions for different monitors, because the display does not fit to fill the screen on both monitors.
It is also noted that the display is replicated, and I would like to have the effect of having different desktops e.g. being able to use different applications such as debugging code on one monitor on an IDE such as Visual Studio, and, viewing the browser on the other monitor.
Currently it does not seem possible since the behavior seems to be that the same resolution is replicated on both monitors.

I had thought to put My Pictures and My Music on separate Hard Drives from the Operating System and everything else; OR would performance be better with all on one hard drive and backing up the My Music and My Pictures to separate Hard Drives? Ps. I've already tried adding both directories to the windows library 'Movies' directory but you can't access the 'Movie' library from within the Media Center!

User Customized Desktops That Don't Influence Each Other?
Sep 29, 2010I have set up a windows 7 home premium box and I have put 2 users on it. The problem is that these users appear to be sharing a desktop in that if I delete an icon off one, it deletes it off the other. If I install a program for one, it installs it for the other without asking me. If I delete a start menu item for one, it deletes it for the other. I want the 2 users to be able to completely customize their desktop, icons, and start menu. Is this possible? On another of my Windows 7 home machines it would ask if I want to install it for just me or all users, but this new box never asks me. Is this a particular setting somewhere?

Sep 22, 2012This is one of the weirdest problems I have seen.When I boot the HP Pavillion g series it may go to my usual everything works Desktop but more likely it will go to a Desktop similar to when the laptop was new with added icons. If i open any of those they are like new program installs. I have rebooted at least 10 times until it finally goes to the desktop it should. When it boots to the useless one it displays the message"You have been logged in with a temporary file"You cannot access your files and the files created in this profile will be deleted when you log off.
I have scanned with 2 anti-virus programs and 2 mal-ware programs with 0 results. I tried restoring to a previous time with no luck. Tried ccleaner, wise disk cleaner, registry cleaner with no luck. Safe mode works fine. What is causing this thing to boot to a different desktop? It is driving me crazy having to reboot until it finally gets in the mood to work properly. I hope I have explained all of this properly.

Feb 8, 2012Just got my new Windows 7 64-Bit Pro desktop last month, but I noticed that its hibernation feature doesn't function like my laptop!
tech support tells me that given my hardware (apparently, it's a motherboard issue), it's actually impossible to configure my desktop's hibernation to behave like it does on my laptop!
1. How can I get my desktop to hibernate like my laptop? That is, have it save my session to disk and shut off completely, resuming only when I power it on again (IOW, I do not want "hybrid sleep")??
2. Why did Microsoft think to do things this way?? Why take away such behavior for desktops -- it's obviously something programmed into Windows 7 already; why have hibernate disabled for desktops, replaced with hybrid sleep??
note that I am not interested in turning off my mouse and keyboard -- I do like using "sleep" when I'm on the computer all day! It's just that when I expect to not use my machine for another whole day I'd like to save my session but have the desktop off, drawing absolutely no power (and, more to the point, not have vibrations wake up the computer)...

At the login screen there is a icon for the last user that logged in and another labeled "Other Users" for the rest of the users, so that if a different user needs to login they have to select "Other Users" then enter the DOMAIN/USERID and password to logon.
Is there a way to have it show all three users with their icons at the login screen so they can just click their icon and enter their password (all have passwords) to logon. Getting them to enter the DOMAIN/USERID correctly everytime is a challenge since the slash has to go the correct way and the domain name is somewhat long.

Aug 12, 2012I just bought a new computer from Cyberpower PC and am having all kinds of trouble with it. I finally got it to work last night after reinstalling windows from the recovery disk. However, Now I am getting 2 blue screen of death messages. When I try start up it asks whether I want to "Start Windows Normally" or "Launch Startup Repair". When I select Launch Startup Repair I get a BSOD message saying Unmountable_Boot_Volume. When I launch Windows Normally I get a BSOD saying STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Verification of a KnownDLL failed. system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000020 (0x009224e0 0x00000000). The system has been shut down.
I have trying booting in safe mode and launching from last known good configuration and that did not work. I tried booting from the recovery disk and running chkdsk which, also, did not work. I have tried booting from the recovery disk and doing a system restore as well. When I boot to the recovery disk and select "Repair Computer" it says that "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair.
Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows." This does not make sense to me as I just reinstalled Windows from that same recovery disc. Furthermore, when I try to boot the computer from safe mode it freezes at avgidsha.sys. I am going to try using an AVG recovery disc to disable AVG and determine whether or not that is a the problem. However, I have had so many problems with this new computer and am unsure whether it is a hardware or a software problem. And if it is a software problem whether it is a bad driver or bad copy of Windows 7.

Multiple BSOD At Random Times With Multiple Drivers Identified?
Nov 13, 2011I am trying to get my wife's new computer up and running without any BSOD or program failures. Note that the system was not initially set up to capture the dmp files so all the earliest ones are missing. I presented the initial problems to the original seller who recommended sticking with MSE and uninstalling Norton 360 and I did that. Another forum suggested that Virtual Memory was the problem and I disabled and restored VM. Still having multiple crashes and I am hoping that I can get real help here. I do note that all the crashes have ntoskrnl.exe in the driver stack although sometimes alone and sometimes with other drivers.[CODE]

Feb 13, 2013We have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule. I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems.The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.
Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening.My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..
Multiple Blue Screens With Multiple Reasons
Dec 13, 2012I have been getting a fairly random blue screens and I cannot pin point it myself. I know a bit about diagnosing and repairing issues but this one is just a pain in my butt. Dec 25, 2011I have an HP Pavilion dm4t-2100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, the OS with which it was installed. I am connected to a Homegroup which also contains a laptop and two desktops.I am able to connect through the network to the other laptop and remotely view files and devices on that laptop.However, I cannot see past the names of the two desktops. This means I cannot read or write files on or install devices connected to either desktop computer.The desktops can see each other and both laptops (R/W).The laptops can see each other (R/W), but neither one can see either desktop ("Cannot find the network path"; ping command fails).Is there a setting I can change either on the laptops or on the desktops to enable connectivity? All computers on the network are running genuine copies of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit as their original OS.
