Alternating Between 2 Desktops With A Hotkey Shortcut?
Jan 3, 2012
I'm a gamer and I want to have 2 desktops such as 1 with a character of the game I play for when I'm with friends and 1 of a lightning storm when I'm out in public. Is there a shortcut such as pressing CRT+S or WIN+S to change desktops so when im in public and I have the wrong desktop I can press the hotkey to change it and change it back when im with friends?

I apparently set up my screenshots to take with the hit of s for easy access while playing games. The problem is now everything I hit s, it takes a screenshot. I've spend countless hours searching on the net for a solution so I thought I'd come here to see if someone has had a similar problem. Is there a location I can find where I can edit and or disable all hot key commands?

Currently, from what I can tell, the only option to hide the gadgets and desktop icons is to right click, go to view, etc.
Does anyone know a shortcut for this or how I can hotkey it?

how to go one step further and create a desktop shortcut (or hotkey) to the speaker setup page where you choose your audio channels? (ie/ where you choose between Stereo, 5.1 Surround, 7.1 Surround, etc.) It's one click after getting to the Playback page. After getting to the Playback page, you'd click "Configure" to get there. It's this page here:
I need to switch quickly between "Stereo" and "5.1 Surround" and I'd like to get here with a single click (or hotkey). Does anyone know?

so ever since I got Windows 7, i have had nothing but nightmares alternating between 2 hard drives.
before back when I was running XP I had 2 HDDs that I would alternate between. both had XP installed, one of which was for backup. whenever I had a problem with my current OS, I would just swap the HDDs and run my backup while I image the other screwed up one.
now with Windows 7, i cannot do that because of the STUPID bootloader. bootloader made me have nightmares at night. pretty much what happens when I swap it says "BOOTMGR is Missing". now whats really messed up is that, I think the PC stores the bootloader info NOT ON THE HDD, but somewhere in the BIOS or mobo. because i completely disable the old HDD that I used to bootup with 3 partitions, and the one im trying to boot up has 2 partitions and it worked perfectly. but since i used norton ghost and try to boot up after restoring a backup of 7 on it, it says "BOOTMGR is missing".
both of my HDD windows got screwed up, and even my CD ROM STOPPED WORKING! i couldnt even recover it from the W7 disk. but I maanged to fool the system by swapping CDs and finally got into the recovery and repaired one of my HDDs boot loader. but the one I need it to work within 2 days is still messed up. can someone explain to me how this bootloader works and what i need to do?
I got 7, XP, and Vista on SATA, and 7 and Ubuntu on IDE. both worked fine whenever I needed to swap between them until i messed with Norton Ghost
do i need to format my HDD and write 0s to it? it worked for my SATA that wouldnt boot up and give me NTLDR error before. same crap with W7 bootloader.

I am trying to add a page number series on the bottom of the pages and alternating headers at the top, odd and even pages, and to begin these on the third page of my document. I cannot get it to do this. The page numbering shanges when I try to add the alterning header, and none of it will begin on the third page, even using a page break. How can I do all this?

I have set up a windows 7 home premium box and I have put 2 users on it. The problem is that these users appear to be sharing a desktop in that if I delete an icon off one, it deletes it off the other. If I install a program for one, it installs it for the other without asking me. If I delete a start menu item for one, it deletes it for the other. I want the 2 users to be able to completely customize their desktop, icons, and start menu. Is this possible? On another of my Windows 7 home machines it would ask if I want to install it for just me or all users, but this new box never asks me. Is this a particular setting somewhere?

This is one of the weirdest problems I have seen.When I boot the HP Pavillion g series it may go to my usual everything works Desktop but more likely it will go to a Desktop similar to when the laptop was new with added icons. If i open any of those they are like new program installs. I have rebooted at least 10 times until it finally goes to the desktop it should. When it boots to the useless one it displays the message"You have been logged in with a temporary file"You cannot access your files and the files created in this profile will be deleted when you log off.
I have scanned with 2 anti-virus programs and 2 mal-ware programs with 0 results. I tried restoring to a previous time with no luck. Tried ccleaner, wise disk cleaner, registry cleaner with no luck. Safe mode works fine. What is causing this thing to boot to a different desktop? It is driving me crazy having to reboot until it finally gets in the mood to work properly. I hope I have explained all of this properly.

my Netgear wireless card won't work. It won't work if I have more than 2 GBs of RAM. Which is stupid. I've already looked everywhere and the only answer I could get out of Netgear was "Sorry but we're working on an update". Screw them.Anyway, I'm looking to buy another one because I hate running a 30 ft ethernet cable through the house so I can get internet. I really don't want to get bummed again so if you guys have an recommendations that would work with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit WITH 16 GBs OF RAM (lol)

Just got my new Windows 7 64-Bit Pro desktop last month, but I noticed that its hibernation feature doesn't function like my laptop!
tech support tells me that given my hardware (apparently, it's a motherboard issue), it's actually impossible to configure my desktop's hibernation to behave like it does on my laptop!
1. How can I get my desktop to hibernate like my laptop? That is, have it save my session to disk and shut off completely, resuming only when I power it on again (IOW, I do not want "hybrid sleep")??
2. Why did Microsoft think to do things this way?? Why take away such behavior for desktops -- it's obviously something programmed into Windows 7 already; why have hibernate disabled for desktops, replaced with hybrid sleep??
note that I am not interested in turning off my mouse and keyboard -- I do like using "sleep" when I'm on the computer all day! It's just that when I expect to not use my machine for another whole day I'd like to save my session but have the desktop off, drawing absolutely no power (and, more to the point, not have vibrations wake up the computer)...

We have 8 machines that we need to control and image at our ghost station. The problem we have is the fact that our kvm switch has to be pressed every time we are configuring the next machine to join the multicast sessions of Norton Ghost.Is there any software that allows one master computer to have at least a 4-network desktop view of computers on a local network on one screen?For example, the program would be a big window that would house the other connected slave computers and display their desktop screen on the master computer within the window. It would do the same for the other three computers and you can navigate between them all by moving the mouse over it to gain it's focus and move to the next and gain its focus.

I want to make some "show desktop shortcut" on the taskbar, and when I click on it, it must to react same as when I press Win+M hotkey.
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
When I save this as show.scf it is react just like Win+D hotkey. But I want to create win+M hotkey's shortcut. If it possible to make this shortcut, when you click on it it must Minimize all windows by effect. And I want to sort folders by myself, for example: I have folder A, B, C, D and I want to sort them not by alphabet or by size.. I should able to put folder D after A, I cant drag them.

It it possible to disable Win+X hotkey without disabling the Mobility Center itself? Or, better yet, use some other hotkey for mobility center (which, though, is probably simple) and bind some other hotkey to Win+X?
I have HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorerNoWinKeys set to 0x01 already.
Additionally, I want to bind (shift+)alt+tab actions to Win+Z / Win+X is that possible?Additionally (in case this won't require a separate tread), I can't bind Win+` (at least in Launchy) is there something special about this combination?

I've been browsing the web to find an answer for my question, but with no luck.
I use Windows 7 on a PC which is setup to be both an office and an entertainment computer. Therefore it's connected to two seperate screens with one graphic card. The screens are one 19" desktop screen (1280x1024) and one 40" Samsung LCD TV (1920x1080). When I'm browsing the web, working with documents etc. I use the desktop screen and when I watch movies, pictures etc. I use the TV.
Now I'm trying to switch between them in an easy way. I've tried several third party applications but eventually found that the best way to switch between these in fact is to use Windows 7 built-in software. I've setup Windows to recognize the two seperate screens and I switch between them by using the "Multiple Displays" option in the settings. I then switch by using "show desktop only on 1/2".
Do anyone know if this switch can be done by using a hotkey combination through Windows or through some other software? It's not the end of the world right clicking the desktop and doing it, but it'd be nice to save a few clicks every time.

Just found out something really cool and useful. It's like 3D flip but better, as all the active windows become smaller but are facing forward, which makes it easier to choose the needed one. When you point them with your mouse, it shows the software/folder name.I know the alt + tab and win + tab combos, but there has to be some for this one too I guess. Haven't found it even though I tried searching the Interner for hotkey guides.The way I found this option was when I was using my Logitech mouse on my laptop, and started customizing the mouse buttons... I found a button command "switch between software", chose it, and found this option out. How can I do the same thing without my mouse, just using some keyboard combo?Here's a pic of how it looks. Originally Microsoft Word was on top, after pressing the button all the windows were resized and placed next to each other.

If I have a folder that usually takes a bit of navigation to get to (don't want any shortcuts on my desktop either as I don't have any shortcuts or icons on my desktop) is it possible to assign some sort of key to instantly open it? Such as holding down CTRL+ALT+184 on the num pad and it will open up that folder. Can it be done?
