I was just wondering if there is a hotkey to either focus on/make active what the mouse is over or just to left click. this would be useful for me sometimes and i'm sure it is possible. I haven't seen this on any hotkey lists around though.
if i had 2 apps open, i could single click app 1's respective Taskbar icon to restore (minimize)/lose (set) focus. the aforementioned method would also minimize or maximize the app 1's window as the focus changed. further, if i launched app 2, app 2 would load in the foreground, immediately receive focus and i could use it right away. seems after a recent Windows Update, i lost the ability to use all the above methods. My current Taskbar properties are: Taskbar Tab - Lock the Taskbar, Use Small Icons and Autopeek all enabled Start Menu Tab - both Privacy settings enabled the steps below describes the current behavior starting with no apps open: i open app 1 (e.g., Firefox) and perform an app 1 activity next I open app 2 (e.g., Word) and app 2 loads in the background (as opposed to opening in the foreground and receiving the focus) i click on app 2's taskbar icon to gain access (transfer focus) and perform an app 2 activity, however, app 2's taskbar icon starts flashing but app 2 doesn't receive the focus.to access app 2 i have to minimize app 1 using app 1's minimize button if i want to go back to app 1 i click on app 1's taskbar icon to gain access (transfer focus) and perform an app 1 activity, however, app 1's taskbar icon starts flashing but app 1 doesn't receive the focus. to access app 1 i have to minimize app 2 using app 2's minimize button now clicking an app 1 or app 2 taskbar icons cause them to start flashing if app 2 has the focus, and i mouse over app 1 (when it doesn't have the focus) and click the preview of app 1, app 1's taskbar icon flashes, but the focus does not shift to app 1 - it remains with app 2. with 5 apps open, if i want access to app 2, i have to minimize app 1, 3, 4 and 5 using their respective minimize buttons to see/gain access app 2. as i mentioned, in the past, i only needed to single click any app's Taskbar icon once to lose focus (and minimize window) and transfer focus (and restore window) to another app or vice versa. call me weird, etc, but this greatly enhances my work productivity because i'm navigating to windows with virtual machines, remote desktop connections, etc. i even created a restore point where this behavior is working as i want it. if i restore and update, the behavior changes.
I have no viruses, all software, flash, drivers, and BIOS are current. I have no gagets running, have all animation and effects turned off. The simplest example is trying to click on the taskbar icon for sound to mute or change the volume. When I try to move the cursor to the pop-up, it disappears. Same thing happens with maxmized windows, I cannot use the taskbar icon to close them. The pop up disappears when I move off the task bar. When composing email in Windows Live Mail , I cannot keep the cursor in the Subject line to type a title. (To get the subject line for this email,I had to type it in the body and cut/paste.) The mouse focus shifts to the body of the email. I have tried USB mice, cordless mice, trackpad, all do the same.
Is there a way to start a screen saver with a hot-key or a mouse gesture (or perhaps by putting the mouse into a certain corner for a certain amount of seconds)?
I would like the ability to start the screen saver on command without going to the display option and clicking the preview button. For example, when surfing the web or watching a video, I would like to push alt-s or something similar, or perhaps move the mouse to a corner, and the screen saver starts automatically, right away, then acts normally as if it started by itself (meaning, it is "on" until I move the mouse or push a key).
I have a Dell XPS L511z, with Windows 7 as my main OS. The problem is, literally every 60 seconds the current window loses focus. It makes typing anything hell, since the cursor sometimes jumps to a different position on the page, but mostly just loses focus altogether. I have a feeling the problem is to do with the Optimus setup.
I am playing a game, that game is a full screen game being displayed on one monitor, and I have itunes open in the other monitor. The song changes, and I dont like it, I can free my mouse, and move it to the other monitor, but if I click anything, Windows sees that as me wanting to focus the desktop, so it minimizes the game.
You normally left click to access something on the internet but all of the sudden my computer won't do that. I have to right click then go up to click on OPEN and then it works. Using windows 7 pro and this just started over the weekend. How do I get it back to left click to open?
Usually when using an internet browser (firefox or internet explorer) and windows explorer windows, I try to click to switch tabs and it doesn't respond. It shows (Not Responding) for a split second and won't switch tabs. I end up having to click a whole bunch of times before it switches.
This same kind of thing happens with explorer windows when trying to restore them from the minimized state. It just won't respond and multiple clicks are needed before seeing any action. This has been happening for awhile now but I figure it just may be another bug
I have the same problem with my Windows 7 PC and a Logitech trackball. This seemed to start with the most recent Windows updates for Window 7. I doubt that Microsoft gives a crap about our problem.
i've been having a problem with my mouse, it clicks just once in a while, and, sometimes, it gets better with one window (program) but when I change to another program or desktop, it stops clicking again. It begun out of nowhere about 3 days ago. I run my pc on windows 7, I tried changing the usb port, the mouse and it doesn't work. What does help is doing a ctrl+alt+del, starting task manager and returning to windows, then, I can click on a single program and it begins to work (the mouse clicks) with it. Typing alt+tab also helps sometimes.
My xbox controller and keyboard are functioning normally. I recently updated my kaspersky to the latest version, but I tried deactivating it but I had no luck with the mouse. I'm thinking about returning to a previous kaspersky version, first, then, if that doesn't help, reinstalling the windows.
Ah, another thing that might help: i have windows vista on the same PC, same HD and, when I logged in it to see if the problem persisted, gess what, yes, the same mouse problem. That made me think of a hardware problem, but on all usb ports is odd. Can anyone help?
I installed Windows 7 a few months ago, everything was working fine until a few days.
A while after the computer is on, i want to click anymore neither with my touch pad nor with my external usb mouse....
The cursor moves normally but left click and right click won't work. if i do CTRL ALT DEL and cancel it works again for a while and then starts again.
The weird part, is it's not alway for the whole screen, sometimes i cannot click windows, sometimes i cannot click the tasl bar, sometimes both...
I really can't seem to find an answer to this problem, i've been thinking it might be a problem of screen refresh as the CTRL ALT DEL solves it for a few minutes, but I'm not sure... Can someone here help me please?
I built a pc a few days ago. It has windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Today when i started it and i clicked on start it also right clicked on its own. As i was typing in MS Word in the middle of a sentence when i clicked the space bar the pc acted as if i right clicked on my mouse. I ran CCleaner it did not help. I uninstalled the usb drivers for the keyboard and mouse using USBDeview that didnt help either. I uninstalled naturally dragon 11 because it was the last install i did before i noticed
My netbook, running windows 7 starter, no longer allows me to right click. Not in programs, not in folders, not on the desktop. I was using a USB mouse (which I tested on another mechine, the right click works fine there, so its not the mouse). After this problem started I tried a second usb mouse and the right-click on the built-in touch pad mouse. None of them worked. I have tried rebooting, I tried updating the drivers on my USB mouse. I havn't tried a system restor, hoping someone might know a fix that avoids that route.
I uninstalled the Interactual and Sonic Cineplayer software because that interfered with Windows Media Player and Power DVD v7.
I set my autoplay option for the DVD drive to "Always ask" for a DVD movie.
When I insert a DVD movie I get the autoplay option for WMP or PowerDVD.
Now everything works except for one quirk.
If I insert a DVD MOVIE, cancel the autoplay option and then simply mouse click on the DVD drive I get:
"Windows cannot access the specified device. path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
Any other type of DVD/CD works fine. IT IS JUST DVD MOVIES.
I think Interactual, which want to own the DVD drive, left some registry entry whereby it tries to re-install itsellf (I REALLY hate that software).
1) Any ideas as to what the POC Interactual software left behind an how to clean it?
2) Also, why, oh why, can't the Windows error message INCLUDE the "device, path, or file" NAME in the error message? (Pet Peeve #1) Are you listening Redmond?
I seem to remember that there was a setting that I could change to prevent a drop-down from appearing whenever I clicked on an icon. Now I am presented with a drop-down that has "OPEN' as it's top item.
In all releases, when you were hovering over the pinned items with more than one window open, pressing middle click to the thumbnails closed the windows....Now it's not happening anymore...
Is it just me or the feauture is off? i use Build 7000
I recently upgraded from Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. Everything was fine and I liked it. Then it stopped registering the clicks from my mouse. I rebooted and it was back to normal. After a while it stopped again and I've been fighting with it ever since. It works about 1 out of every 15 reboots. I've tried rebooting with the dvd for windows repair, nothing. I removed wireless USB card and switched to ethernet connection, worked for a minute until next reboot. I've reinstalled windows (haven't formatted yet) to no avail.
I've tried and tried to contact windows for support, but can't find a phone number. When I try to go through the steps on their site, it says that my product ID isn't good for this country, yet I bought it at Best Buy here in Louisiana, and they want to charge me $50 to talk to me!! I'm fit to be tied!!
The one thing different that I did was, when I initially upgraded, I disconnected my backup drive since I didn't have anywhere else to back it up. I re-connected it once everything was reinstalled. For the life of me I can't seem to figure this out. If I have to format everything I will. I about to that point right now.
I've been having the problem of mouse/touch pad being able to move but somehow, i just can't click on anything with my laptop a few days ago. It just feels like everything is in the "not responding" state when using the mouse and also the touch pad but then everything seems just fine when I use my keyboard to operate them. I've tried formatting my laptop myself and also sent it to a shop to do it, but nothing has changed And also, ever since this problem occur, my laptop seems to be slowing down no matter is shutting it down or running a program.
I guess I'm just having a series of minor problems. The function of the right click on my mouse no longer works. I get a rotating circle that eventually states the Windows can not solve the problem.

In the last week I've added nothing to my computer but the left clicker on my mouse has become extremely sensitive. Most times when I try to click on anything whether it be in a free cell game or on excel it acts like I clicked two or three times. I've been to "mouse" on the control panel and moved the double click to the slowest setting but no luck. Now before this I'd never been to the "mouse" on the control panel so I could not have accidentally done anything. It's really hard to do anything since I've got to be so careful hitting the left clicker on the mouse!
Ok, is there a way to change for example capslock on/off to mimic a mouse click & hold function? I ask this as i use some software for graphic work & it requires to right click & hold for long periods whilst performing other functions to get the desired affect but if i could simple mouse over & press capslock on it would do the click & hold for me so i can do what i wanted to to & then turn capslock off to release the button effect.
Have had new computer for a few months. Mouse worked fine until a few days ago. Will open some things by "double click" and some things I have to right click and open. I installed a new mouse and have same problems. Haven't changed anything or installed any new hardware or software recently.
