My SDHC (4GB) card is read fine and mounted correctly when I boot Windows with the card in. However if I remove it (always safely!) then insert it back I hear the sound from Windows as if it recognizes a new device has been found but the card isn't mounted and there is no way to access the card again. I have to reboot.

I'm planning on placing my C:Users folder on a separate partition of my HDD. I know the general scheme of things would be to create the separate parition, we'll call it D:. and then robocopy everything from C:Users to D: and delete the contents of C:Users before mounting D:Users.
Does anyone have any clue what to do if I want D: to be a FAT32 partition? Will I run into trouble because of permissions from the NTFS partition that Users originally resided on?

place Daemon Lite on a second hard drive I have created out, then mount the Recovery Disc to the program in the hard drive and run a "Reset to Factory Settings" recovery from that mount? I think it would work if i boot from bios to my clean HD and then use "cd "Gaemon" and run the ISO file from that dir.

I have a failed hard drive that I'd like to send back to get replaced but obviously want all my data wiped first. The problem is that the drive has failed so miserably that it won't even mount to any system in order to perform any sort of wiping. I've connected it to my system directly, via a USB to IDE adapter, and via an eSATA adapter in both Windows and Linux to no avail. Sometimes it will show up in the Device Manager under Hard Drives, but that's as far as it gets - it's never assigned a letter and doesn't show up in Disk Manager. It doesn't show up in Ubuntu when I perform an fdisk either so I can't perform a DD.
This is a bit of a catch 22 as the hard drive has failed to the point where it can't be read, but I'm not sure what measures are going to be employed to attempt to validate and read the data at the manufacturer when they test it for failure. If the drive all of a sudden starts working, there is too much personal data on there for me to just hope doesn't turn up.

I recently bought a new computer, it came with a 1TB hdd which was mounted. I had a new 1TB HDD already, and when i tried mounting it, it was to small, the HDD that the pc came with had some plastics on it's sides that held it properly.I mounted the HDD and put it on the Case floor, it's working but recently i've been getting I/O errors, it all solved when i unplugged and plugged it again, but my question is, how do i mount it properly without those plastics as i don't know what they are or how they are called?

I haven't reached my limit yet, but I'm down to a few unused drive letters, so I've been looking for a way to reorganize. I tried mounting my media drives in NTFS folders, which works OK, but is quite sub-optimal as you can't index them and thus cannot use them in the Libraries. You also can't run chkdsk on them at all.
Does anyone see any other options here? If I mount all of my media drives to letters, I run out of alphabet... if I mount them in folders I can't use index, libraries, or chkdsk. I'm not too excited about switching back and forth for disk maintenance even if I could just give up on Libraries...

I am using this command: Code: mount -u:root -p:[password] \216.17.1.125srvwwwhtdocs g: at the command line to mount an NFS-enabled network drive from my Windows 7 machine.
I need to know what I need to put in a batch file (which will be put in my Startup folder), so the drive is automatically mounted at login/startup.
I tried just putting the line above in a batch file, but that didn't work.

I'm having an issue with trying to mount shares on my network to a WD Live player. Everything worked fine before reinstalling the OS on my computer. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell XPS box. I have 2 external MY book 1TB drives with movies and music. The shares on my internal drives mount correctly through SSH to the WD Live but I get this error when trying to mount from the external drives:
Code: # xmount "//192.168.0.195/Films" "Films" cifs
mount: mounting \192.168.0.195Films on /tmp/media/usb/Films failed: Cannot allocate memory
xmount: xmount //192.168.0.195/Films Films cifs user=guest,iocharset=utf8,ro FAILED WTF?!? Also, I get this info when I run the command on SSH to see my shares:

I use a program known as Folder Lock 6.4.2 and previously whenever I burn the "FLK" file using Any version of Nero ((Currently using Nero Version 10)), When I go to open up the Burnt Data Dvd to put in my password info into the Folder Lock program, I get the error message "Mount Not Working. Due to some reason encryption not working. Please restart your computer to resolve this issue or select another locker top open.". I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything more than once, Folder Lock 6.4.2, Nero 7, Nero 10. When I switch over to Windows XP, I put in the password it opens up just fine. I am using Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.

When I plug my Samsung SIII (ice cream sandwich) into my Windows 7 pro USB port, it mounts as a portable device but does not have a drive letter associated with it. This makes it difficult (impossible) for me to reference it for running scripts or with various file copy utilities. I do not want to have to "import" pictures, as that process offers no control over the file selection in my 64gb sim card. How can I mount DCIM directory as a regular windows drive with a drive letter, so that I can perform normal file folder operations on it?
BTW. To add insult to injury, I only want a half dozen pictures out of the many GB in the DCIM folder. However, since I cannot see thumbnails, I cannot pick out the few which I would be happy to drag and drop, if I knew which ones they were.

I have an external 3TB hard drive, USB. I used a mac to partition it, 2.25TB is HFS+ (Mac OS extended - journaled) and the other is 490gb NTFS (to use on windows). It would not give me the option to use MBR (master boot record) so i used the GUID table. It works fine on macs, but windows tells me i need to reformat it. It is my understanding that most all 64bit versions of windows can read/write a GUID disk. I do not need to boot off of the drive. this is another addition to the list of "why i hate windows"

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-740QM Processor

Repair your system or Start windows normally When i chose repair system , it start downloading windows files and then launch the windows , but hung up at the sky blue login window with only movable cusor . When i choose to start windows normally it gives me BSOD momentarly ( hard to see the message) and then restarts again . i tried with the advanced boot up options like
repair my computer , all safe modes , restore to last good configuration but it does the same and hangs at windows loging sky blue window .I Tried to run the Dell PSA+ Diagnostic and it returns with 2000-0146 error . As per the Dell online solutions for this type of error ,I tried to reinstall the Hard disk but the problem still exist.

Suddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.

Using preinstalled Win 7 Home Premium 64bit on an HP 6813w Pavilion. The original hard drive, a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1Tb crashed.1) System Recovery discs was made along with a System Recovery with System Image disc.2) A more current System Image was made on an external hard drive. The Hitachi was replaced with the same model. Checked bios to make sure it was installed correctly.Under System Recovery, Image Restore, Select a System Image Backup there is nothing in the table to choose from as far as a source (disc drive or external drive).A) System Recovery (3 discs) has the HP preinstall file folder on the 3rd disc but is not read by the System Recovery program.B) Under System Restore, Image Restore, Advanced, it asks for a network or driver to be installed. That opens up the directory of C: which is the external hard drive. Under WindowsImageBackup the computer name is identified followed by three entries:[CODE]It seems to me the Recovery and System Restore discs are not functional. Am not a technical person but I have taken this as far as I know how at this point.Printed out all the instructions from HP and Microsoft to follow step by step but the failed discs will not allow me to move forward.

I had the brilliant idea to delete the manufacturer's recovery partition on my ASUS Win 7 64-bit laptop, and reclaim that space for my C drive, and now my system is unbootable. I get the error message "autochk program not found" then stop: c000021a Fatal System Error. I have run System Recovery several times to no avail. I tried to do a repair using the Win 7 DVD, but that didn't work either.

Living is south FL can be a bitch when the rains come as there often is a ton of accompanying lightening that plays havoc with the electrical system, even though I have surge protectors inside and outside the house. We just had some very heavy rains with lightening and my computer shut down several times, but I could restart it each time...except for the last time when Windows wouldn't startup. At that point, Start Up Repair came into play. Although I routinely backup on an external drive, of course I never did it this month-DUH!Results from SUR were error free (error code=0x0) on all the parameters tested, however there were the following error codes reported:"Unspecified change to the system configuration might have caused the problem." Failed: 0x1fRepair Action: System FilesFailed: x490There were more options to select for a recovery task, but I didn't try them as they didn't seem to be as salient as the two above.

When I launch the Recovery Disc Creation, it says:"This computer does not have a burning drive, which is required to make DVDs. Please contact HP Support for asistance."My computer did not come with a build in CD Drive. Even plugging in a USB CD Drive will not make creating the discs possible. So. I ask you. How can I reset my computer to Factory Condition?
Computer Specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit)
Model: HP Pavillion dm3 Notebook PC
edit: This notebook came with a Recovery Partition built in.

Did a system restore in Windows 7 and my dual boot system (Windows 7&XP) won't boot. It's looking for a boot device. When I put in a Hiren boot 10.6 disk, the dual boot option is one of a number of alternatives, and it allows me to get into my pc. How can I get back to having the system work like it did before? So it boots to the dual boot option without Hiren. My SSD drive is the main drive for Windows 7 &XP. It has two partitions.
