Cannot Mount Shares With External Hard Drives After OS Reinstallation
Nov 6, 2011I'm having an issue with trying to mount shares on my network to a WD Live player. Everything worked fine before reinstalling the OS on my computer. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell XPS box. I have 2 external MY book 1TB drives with movies and music. The shares on my internal drives mount correctly through SSH to the WD Live but I get this error when trying to mount from the external drives:

Folder Mount Points & Windows Libraries
Dec 22, 2010I haven't reached my limit yet, but I'm down to a few unused drive letters, so I've been looking for a way to reorganize. I tried mounting my media drives in NTFS folders, which works OK, but is quite sub-optimal as you can't index them and thus cannot use them in the Libraries. You also can't run chkdsk on them at all.
Does anyone see any other options here? If I mount all of my media drives to letters, I run out of alphabet... if I mount them in folders I can't use index, libraries, or chkdsk. I'm not too excited about switching back and forth for disk maintenance even if I could just give up on Libraries...
Folder Lock Or Nero Encryption - Mount Not Working
Aug 14, 2010I use a program known as Folder Lock 6.4.2 and previously whenever I burn the "FLK" file using Any version of Nero ((Currently using Nero Version 10)), When I go to open up the Burnt Data Dvd to put in my password info into the Folder Lock program, I get the error message "Mount Not Working. Due to some reason encryption not working. Please restart your computer to resolve this issue or select another locker top open.". I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything more than once, Folder Lock 6.4.2, Nero 7, Nero 10. When I switch over to Windows XP, I put in the password it opens up just fine. I am using Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.

Nov 7, 2012When I plug my Samsung SIII (ice cream sandwich) into my Windows 7 pro USB port, it mounts as a portable device but does not have a drive letter associated with it. This makes it difficult (impossible) for me to reference it for running scripts or with various file copy utilities. I do not want to have to "import" pictures, as that process offers no control over the file selection in my 64gb sim card. How can I mount DCIM directory as a regular windows drive with a drive letter, so that I can perform normal file folder operations on it?
BTW. To add insult to injury, I only want a half dozen pictures out of the many GB in the DCIM folder. However, since I cannot see thumbnails, I cannot pick out the few which I would be happy to drag and drop, if I knew which ones they were.

A single physical hd can be split into multiple partitions and so multiple drives if you wish.
Q. Can you partition(?) 2 physical hd`s into 1 virtual drive ?

Messed Up Drives And Partitions
Oct 23, 2009I seem to have messed up my drives big time.
I had Windows XP installed on C:
Partitioned that drive, installed Windows 7 Beta on D:
Bought a second hard drive
Partitioned it to to drives, E and F
I just bought the Windows 7 Pro Upgrade, made a fresh install on E: with the hopes that it would change E: to C: like the beta did on my primary drive.
It didn't, now my drive lettering looks awful and it's confusing me lol.
I don't need the Windows XP or the Windows 7 Beta installation (on disk0), I would like to combine those partitions back into 1 drive.
Is there any way I can fix this mess? maybe make my current windows location C: ?
Hide Specific Drives/partitions In Windows 7?

Reserved & OS partitions) of one drive on one controller to the partition of another drive on a different controller, AND have it boot? I know "something" would have to altered, but I'm not sure "what" or "how". Is this even possible without going through a lot of hoops. Specifically I have an installation of W7x64 installed on the 1st partition of the master drive on a PATA controller. I want to move it to the 1st partition of the master drive on my SATA controller.

Dec 9, 2011I have Asus N55SF laptop, with Windows 7 SP1 64 bit. Also, I have 2 external hard drives. One with USB 3.0, and one USB 2.0. Following problems, I am going to describe below, happen to the both of them. Just to mention, external drives are tested on desktop computer and following problems do not happen.
Let me now describe what happens when I try certain actions:
- When I try to copy large files (10 or more GB) I get an error that destination is no longer visible. External drives disappear from My Computer and I can't do safe remove. But when I copy files using programs FastCopy or TeraCopy everything copies well and drives do not disappear.
- When I try to do Windows Backup and encrypt them using BitLocker drives also disappear, and are not visible within OS.
There is a difference between external hard with USB 3.0 port and the one with 2.0 port:
- When one with 3.0 disappears after described actions I can't see it from Device Manager, I can see it only after windows reboot. USB 3.0 disk connects to one USB 3.0 port on laptop.
- When one with 2.0 port disappears I can see it from Device Manager, and I only have to unplug it, and plug it in again to see it. USB 2.0 disk connects to 2 USB 2.0 ports on laptop.
Common to both disks is that when then disappear from My computer the diode on the external disk cases are still flashing, what probably means that they have some power. Both disk are formated to NTFS, and Allocation unit size is set to: Default. Their removal policy is set to: Better performance (default). On laptop I only have Windows, Office and Asus drivers. Antivirus is: MSE.

It is a game that grows dynamically as I connect to server's, download addons, and receive mandatory game updates.The game file has exceeded 50Gb before.After getting infected with "Windows 7 Antivirus Pro" and making (I freely admit it, and I REALLY should have known better) a terrible mistake and breaking all .exe's while removing the infection, I was forced to re-install windows. However, for whatever reason (another stupid mistake) I re-installed windows on the wrong hard-drive. So now my C: drive is only 150 Gb, and my backup (both of them) are 1TB.I do not have the space to have garrysmod on my C: drive, which is where steam is installed (Last time I tried installing it somewhere else it would not work.)Now that the background information is done lets move on to what you can help me with!
I have been looking for a way to install garrysmod on another hard-drive without reinstalling steam and trying to get it to work on another hard-drive. I believe I have found one, but I am really a coward when it comes to this sort of thing, (I HATE re-formatting) the solution I have found apparently tells the computer that the directory/file is on C: when it is actually on another hard-drive, but I found it in an old forum thread, and the member that had posted it was banned.

Aug 24, 2012I have a windows 7 pc that is part of an office network along with about 5 other machines. They are all supposed to connect to a server via network mapping of the server's shared folder. (In this case the mapping is Z:\pi-serverdata and the server is running 2008 R2 on a workgroup). Upon reboot, all systems but one will remap to this drive with no problem.
The one machine will always boot up with the message 'Windows could not reconnect network drives' The mapping is showing in windows explorer but there is a red 'x' icon showing the connection is lost. When I click on it, it prompts for windows credentials, which I enter and then it remaps with no problems. However upon next boot the same thing happens again. No matter what I try I cannot get the system to retain the credentials.
What I have tried so far:
1. Ensuring that there is a match of user names and passwords on the server and workstation.
2. Deleting the mapping and re-adding it.
3. Running a batch file to delay the mapping in order for windows to finish connecting the network first.
I would like to be able to browse to the network folder via network discovery through the workgroup but this particular machine does not have the server show up in the network listing (all other machines do show the server). Plus when pinging the server, it insists on responding with ipv6 unless I force a v4 ping...not sure it's relevant.
Master Folder For Multiple Hard Drives Without Raid Setup
Jul 18, 2012I am in the process of putting (5) 3TB HDD's into my computer (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) to rip my Blu-ray collection to for playback in my home theater room via a Popcorn Hour player. Each drive is independent and I will be systematically filling one drive before going onto the next.The problem is that the Popcorn Hour players communicate with the PC by specifying one folder via SMB that contains all of my media. Since I am doing independent drives, there will be one master folder on each drive containing all of the media for that said drive. Meaning, in terms of the Popcorn Hour/SMB setup, there are five folders I need it to *see* and catalog.

Aug 15, 2011My laptop is not letting me copy anything onto USB flash drives. I'm using windows 7. I have already tried system restore and uninstalling the drive in Device Manager and Disabling write protection in the registry but to no avail. I am able to format the pen drive and also access files on it and copy files from it. But I am not able to paste files from my laptop onto the pen drive. It says "Destination folder access denied" and "You need permission to perform this action". I am running an administrator account. Also I am able to do everything normally in the case of a external HDD but again face the problem when trying to paste something to SD cards. I have taken ownership, run as administrator and also tried to drag-drop but to no avail. This not for just 1 particular file/folder. I am not able to copy anything to the USB and at the same time I am able to copy anything to the external HDD.

Dec 5, 2011I have a failed hard drive that I'd like to send back to get replaced but obviously want all my data wiped first. The problem is that the drive has failed so miserably that it won't even mount to any system in order to perform any sort of wiping. I've connected it to my system directly, via a USB to IDE adapter, and via an eSATA adapter in both Windows and Linux to no avail. Sometimes it will show up in the Device Manager under Hard Drives, but that's as far as it gets - it's never assigned a letter and doesn't show up in Disk Manager. It doesn't show up in Ubuntu when I perform an fdisk either so I can't perform a DD.
This is a bit of a catch 22 as the hard drive has failed to the point where it can't be read, but I'm not sure what measures are going to be employed to attempt to validate and read the data at the manufacturer when they test it for failure. If the drive all of a sudden starts working, there is too much personal data on there for me to just hope doesn't turn up.

I had a new 1TB HDD already, and when i tried mounting it, it was to small, the HDD that the pc came with had some plastics on it's sides that held it properly.I mounted the HDD and put it on the Case floor, it's working but recently i've been getting I/O errors, it all solved when i unplugged and plugged it again, but my question is, how do i mount it properly without those plastics as i don't know what they are or how they are called?

Sep 4, 2011I have an external 3TB hard drive, USB. I used a mac to partition it, 2.25TB is HFS+ (Mac OS extended - journaled) and the other is 490gb NTFS (to use on windows). It would not give me the option to use MBR (master boot record) so i used the GUID table. It works fine on macs, but windows tells me i need to reformat it. It is my understanding that most all 64bit versions of windows can read/write a GUID disk. I do not need to boot off of the drive. this is another addition to the list of "why i hate windows"
