View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore Windows 7 I could simply go to Task Manager, then to the Startup tab to check or uncheck whatever programs I didn't want running every time I turned my computer on. But now with this OS that tab isn't present in TM, and a search of "Startup" doesn't bring up anything.
I got directions telling me to go into folders in Windows Explorer that don't exist, so that dead-ended.

View 0 Replies View RelatedIf you prefer the normal way to change the .dll, then this will show you how to: Startup Sound - Change in Windows 7 Below is a and simple trick to change the startup sound for Windows 7 that does not involve changing a dll. So, for anyone who prefers not to tamper with dlls?First (this could be the hardest part): get the sndrec32.exe from Windows XP (just copy it from your old system). On your Windows 7 system, put the sndrec32.exe somewhere you prefer, e.g. in your Programs folder. Run the application once as an administrator and close it so it will register to the Registry. If you don't do this, you might get a warning message every time it runs. Create a shortcut to sndrec32 on your desktop. Right-click the shortcut > Properties > Tab Shortcut. Edit the target: add /embedding /play /close and the path to the wav file you want to be played at startup.E.g., change it to "C:Program Files (x86)sndrec32.exe" /embedding /play /close D:DocumentsMySound.wav Cut the shortcut from the desktop and paste it in your startup folder. (To access the startup folder, click START > All Progams, right-click on Startup > Explore all users ) Disable the normal Windows 7 startup sound. (Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Sounds and uncheck the option "Play Windows Startup Sound") And that's it! What you've done is you have simply told Windows 7 not to use its own startup sound, but to run sndrec32 at startup in invisible mode (embedding), play your wav file and close again. The effect is that you will hear your wave file being played with no lag during startup.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have successfully formatted my second HD into 3 partitions: Windows 7 x86, Windows 7 64 bit, and XP. The startup menu works fine but the two Windows 7 lines are the same. I may not be using the correct term for startup menu, but it is the one that appears when dual booting. Anyway, I would like to find the file so I can change the two identical lines to different lines. That is, instead of both saying "windows 7" I can change them to "Windows 7 x86" and Windows 7 x64" or something like that. Anybody know where that file is?

Just had a new computer made up using Windows 64bit OS. I installed the old disc drive from my failing old computer as a slave drive, which I was using XP on a 32bit system expecting it was going to be easy to retieve all my data files. What a mistake that is turning out to be !!! Does anyone out there know how I can do this ? The files where password protected is this causing the problem? I guess I have the option of taking the drive out and re-installing it in the old system and then try to download the data into something useable for the new system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a asus N61 about 7months old. running windows 7.
For the last few months the Date keeps randomly changing, usually the actual time is correct, but the date keeps changing at random intervals, sometimes it wont happen for a few weeks, then it might happen every couple days. then nothing again for a week or 2. and usually it goes forwards about 4 or 5 days. sometimes back a few days.
don't post anything about CMOS, As this is a new laptop, so it shouldn't be the cmos battery, ALSO it doesn't happen every time i turn the laptop off, so i doubt a old cmos battery would work sometimes and not others.
I turned last Date accessed on but it is showing me accessing the file just by opening the folder not by actually viewing the file. How do I fix this to only show if I click the file itself?
View 2 Replies View Related"date modified" field does not update when files are replaced in a zip folder while running Windows 7 64-bit.
Data files are stored in zip files and utilized daily. At the days end the files are replaced with the most current revision. The updated file displays the correct "date modified", however when the filed is transfered into the zip file, the "date modified" displayed within the zip file does not update.
I don't have this problem with Windows XP or 2000. Is there some hidden setting that is needed for Windows 7 to recognize file modification dates just as every version prior?
It becomes frustrating that Microsoft continues to add nice new fancy operating features, but yet continuously fails to ensure the basic functions are maintained.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Windows 7, whenever I click on a shared folder, it immediately does something (thumbnail creation?) and changes the modified date. So if I select mulyiple folders, they all have their modified date changed to the same time. Is there a known way to stop this from happening? It's a little annoying right now.
