View 0 Replies View RelatedIf you prefer the normal way to change the .dll, then this will show you how to: Startup Sound - Change in Windows 7 Below is a and simple trick to change the startup sound for Windows 7 that does not involve changing a dll. So, for anyone who prefers not to tamper with dlls?First (this could be the hardest part): get the sndrec32.exe from Windows XP (just copy it from your old system). On your Windows 7 system, put the sndrec32.exe somewhere you prefer, e.g. in your Programs folder. Run the application once as an administrator and close it so it will register to the Registry. If you don't do this, you might get a warning message every time it runs. Create a shortcut to sndrec32 on your desktop. Right-click the shortcut > Properties > Tab Shortcut. Edit the target: add /embedding /play /close and the path to the wav file you want to be played at startup.E.g., change it to "C:Program Files (x86)sndrec32.exe" /embedding /play /close D:DocumentsMySound.wav Cut the shortcut from the desktop and paste it in your startup folder. (To access the startup folder, click START > All Progams, right-click on Startup > Explore all users ) Disable the normal Windows 7 startup sound. (Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Sounds and uncheck the option "Play Windows Startup Sound") And that's it! What you've done is you have simply told Windows 7 not to use its own startup sound, but to run sndrec32 at startup in invisible mode (embedding), play your wav file and close again. The effect is that you will hear your wave file being played with no lag during startup.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAs of yesterday whenever I start the computer, it says "Windows Error Recovery - Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally."it then gives me two choices: Launch Startup Repair (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally. When I launch startup repair im left with a black screen with no cursor. Ive tried just leaving it alone but after 5hours it stayed the same so I just gave up and just turned it off. When I start windows normally it tries to load up windows but after a few seconds Im brought back to the first screen with the same two choices.I have also tried running safe mode and last known good configuration. Both of them lead me back to the first screen with the two choices.

Since the BSOD on my desktop , I am unable to connect to the internet as it no longer recognises the wifi card in the PCI slot. So I will continue with the information from my notebook.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just finished installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in my system with all the latest drivers on it. I use a Crucial M4 128GB SSD. I just noticed now that whenever I restart the computer I don't hear the startup sound? All other sounds like Shutdown sound, clicking, etc. are fine. "play windows startup sound" is also checked in the Sound properties in Control Panel. What could be wrong with this? My first hunch was because the SSD was too fast for the sound to play but I asked some friends in another forum that also has the same SSD as mine that they do hear that Windows 7 startup sound.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPackard bell PC imedia something, radeon sapphire 5670 HD GPU upgrade, recent (Jan 2012) windows 7 64 bit custom install upgrade from vista 32 bit, during which I backed up all files on a Samsung external hard drive, then did a complete hard drive wipe install of windows 7, then put it all back on using software run by the Samsung drive. Went perfectly as planned. Other than that the PC was stock. One day playing Cod 8, screen inputs failed, then keyboard failed, then funny smell from PC tower, so I switched it off. After analysis, showed to be PSU fail. I took the opportunity to build a better PC, as this one is quite a few years old now.
So I only used the hard drive (WD6400AAKS)
Blu ray reader disk drive, memory card reader drive and Radeon GPU from the old PC
ASUS P8Z68-V LX mobo Overclocked intel i5 processor with artic cooling freezer 13 CPU fan Corsair TX650 PSU Antec DF-30 case with 4 led fans
All cables and such are new, and all plugged in correctly. When turned on the first time, all fans on, leds, and everything started as it should have, but No beep, monitor came on, instead of showing initial boot screen, asus version came up, then tried to boots windows, then just as the circles begging to circle the logo, it crashes, screen turns off, then on again, then back to asus screen, the windows screen crashes like before, then asks me to do startup repair or start as normally - No other options.
Every time I do this, it says it couldn't solve the problem, and restarts, then crashes, then restarts, then goes to startup repair option again. If I select start as normally, it just crashes again like before then loops back to startup repair option again. I have tried all options possible after the startup repair fails, including command prompt stuff, system restores, image restores, hardware diagnostics, basically everything. It either fails, then goes back to the startup repair loop, or tells me there are no problems with the hardware, then goes back to the startup repair loop.
I think my hard drive is corrupt, but signs have led me to believe its not completely corrupt - like it will see all the places and times on my hard drive to use when I select system restore, however after a fair time of trying each time, and with multiple possible restore points, it fails every time. I think all the other hardware is fine, and working as it should. I think some of the windows system files were damaged when the old PC's PSU blew while playing COD (it usually handles COD fine).

View 5 Replies View Relatedi have a 7 series samsung laptop, I can make my own "custom" power plan, or even set it on balanced or anything, and when i shut computer down(doing it properly), and start it up, the power plan is back on "Samsung Eco Mode". I'm not sure if THIS eco mode is what is then turning off the network card, but also when i start, the internet is connected for about 5 seconds, then disconnected....adding another piece to the puzzle there is a program installed from the factory called "Easy Settings" and when i open that, network card is in "off" position, i turn it on and instantly have internet again. This easy settings program is on my list of programs i can uninstall, but im not sure if its whats reverting settings or not, getting to be verrry annoyed with opening 6 menus everytime i start-up to get everything the way i want it again. actually also i have heard these samsung laptops come w.lots of fluff programs that arent needed, if anyone knows MORE of these i can uninstall thatd be amazing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently uninstall-ed windows 32 bit (OEM) and re-installed windows 64 bit (OEM). Everything is working well, but the system will just blue screen or lock up without blue screen. The only hardware difference, is that I had 8 gigs of gskill ram plugged in previously, so now windows is of course recognizing the 2nd set of 4 gigs.So far it has occurred 3 times when playing battlefield bad company 2 (2 blue screens 1 pure lock up).Since those lock ups, I have made 1 hardware change, from a gtx 260, to an asus gtx 560ti and have not had any problems with bad company 2, but I haven't played for very long. However it has now locked up twice when I tried to install drivers for my phone, when I plug my phone into my computer via USB it asks to install drivers, but when I click ok, it partially locks up, then goes into a full lock up, but no BSOD.32 bit windows never locked up in the year I used it, no hardware changes until the 64 bit recognized additional ram, and I swapped out the graphics card.
