It came back, I did another restore, it came back again I did it 3 more times like this. I am current on all updates. I am running a asus px658d-e board. All the drivers are up to date. I am running the most recent bios, I am using a usb keyboard and mouse. I have tried booting with the mouse in each usb port with no improvement. I deleted the mouse in the device manager and rebooted. it reinstalled the driver and the problem did not improve. I am running win 7 pro 64bit.

Jun 11, 2012win 7 hangs on startup and freezes or BSOD 0x000000d1 within 1 minute usually. system runs fine if I boot to safe mode.no serious hardware or software changes around the time it started happening (that i recall) I didn't use my pc much for a few days and then the first time i noticed (around June 7th, 2012) I just logged in and there was a popup saying something like windows had recovered from an unexpected shutdown and the system was really slow and then it froze. Makes me think maybe a power outage corrupted something (i'm not on a UPS) or a windows update went badly. i tried to update several drivers in safe mode but none were succesfull. Catalyst Install Manager says: "Failed to load detection driver"sfc /scannow reported no violations perfmon /report gives me...."Error: An error occured while attempting to generate the report. The system cannot find the path specified. "My oldest system restore point says June 7th, 2012 so i did restore but it still has the problem.I built the system 1-2 years ago and haven't re-installed the OS since.

Jan 8, 2012bought a dell touchscreen inspiron one 2320, thought it would be better than my two year old dell (don't see it yet). i am an average user and i am not impressed. anyway the question is why does the monitor go black after 1 minute? i have done all the normal stuff in power options. change power saving settings, change when the computer sleeps. choose when to turn off display. turn hibernation on or off. i upload to Internet and it the shutting down makes it frustrating....

Jun 30, 2012Having a problem with Windows 7 in that it takes forever to load and the network icon spins and spins. In a about 15 minutes everything returns to normal. If I go into safe mode with networking it loads very quickly. Have tried to disable all non-MS services does not make a difference. Have also tried normal and selective startup. Check for latest drivers/firmware updates. Performed the usual cleanup and check disk. SFC did not find any missing or corrupt files. Scanned and removed malware. Waiting for it to reload to look at event viewer logs.

Feb 17, 2012I'm having a problem which seems to be network related as that's what I have narrowed it down to through forums ect. and now I need to know how to fix it! I always have good luck here and hoping to continue the trend.Problem: When Windows 7 is booting, it gets to what appears to be the Desktop but no icons are visible, only the solid background and the mouse cursor. It takes about 2 minutes for the loading process to complete from that point after taking only 18 seconds to get there. After trial and error in addition to reading other forums, I came to the conclusion that this is caused by my networked drives that are mapped to the computer. When I unplug them from the network, the entire loading process takes less than 30 seconds!Question: Is there any fix for this like possibly delaying the connection to the networked drives until I manually access them? Seems all the "answers" I found elsewhere result in editing the registry or something similar which I suppose if thats what it takes I'll do it. Just wanted to get a second opinion before I go in changing things that may or may not address the issue.

Jan 7, 2013Everything was fine with my pc for about 6 months now since I did a fresh install on a ssd. Today everything was working great, I never install windows 7 updates and use my own nod32 anti virus. I have windows 7 64x
I shutdown the computer and everything was fine. When I tried starting the computer again it was stuck on the windows logo with starting windows words. The animation of the flag was animated and not frozen. My post message submitted at a regular timeframe. I did do windows restore and still takes about 30 min for windows to start. Tried windows repair, took 30 min to even get into it, and startup repair says there is nothing wrong. Safe mode gets stuck too and won't start up.
I also checked bios to see if there where any changes, but everything seems in order, the boot sequence and order and so on. I have no clue whats wrong and scared to turn off the computer incase next time it completely stops starting.

Feb 26, 2012I have a relatively new Windows 7 enterprise 64-bit install. This is a domain account, so I have to do ctrl+alt+del to login. After entering my password, the welcome notice comes up (with the spinning circle), and it takes quite a while for the desktop to appear. It can be as long as a couple of minutes. This is a pretty fast rig (i5 2500K/GA-Z68X-UD3H/F312800CL8D-8GBXM) and when I first set it up it, my desktop appeared about 10 seconds after hitting the power button, including login.
Is the use of the domain account the likely cause of the delay, or could this be something else like automatic update? I'm not sure how I would go about finding out.

I have Thunderbird which checks all my email addresses at startup but it says "cannot connect" so i started to check out my wireless. My wireless says it has "limited access" to my network, says it is "not connected" and when I check the wireless status, it would say that it isn't connected to the IPv4 and IPv6, all while being connected for "00:01:30+"
Then after several minutes, it would just start identifying and connect to the network/internet real fast out of nowhere. My wireless is a Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection
Also, I have a VMware to run Ubuntu which bridges the internet to go online, if this helps. (I cannot uninstall since it took me 4 weeks to get it running)

Jul 12, 2012I am having trouble just viewing the "Downloads" folder in Windows Explorer It used to just be a periodic thing, now it takes literally 2-5 minutes to load this folder! (I cannot even sort it while it is loading!)I noticed in Resource Monitor that "MsMpEng.exe" (Microsoft Security Essentials) is checking each and every file in there everytime I open it. (Hundreds of line-items in Resource Monitor.)So something must be flagging most of these files as changed or something so that MSE is going in and re-scanning everything. Here are some [perhaps ] pertinant notes about my Downloads Folder: It is very large, with almost 1,000 items. However, I want to keep it large as I have many apps running directly from the folder. (There are of course sub-folders for organization, but I find having a single download spot is good for catching things I may have already downloaded...) I have it mapped from C:Users[USERNAME]Downloads to D:...Downloads (My C: drive is an SSD so I keep this large amount of data off it.) I made sure to add this to the Windows Index. The "Date Accessed" date is updated to today for about 1/3 of the files (300 or so) even though I am only really accessing no more than 3-10 per day. It does not seem to matter what type of file it is (exe, zip, etc...) I added this to my "Favorites"; however, this happens regardless of if I access the folder via Favorites, [USERNAME]/Downloads, or d:...Downloads. I generally add stuff to that folder via Google Chrome. However, I could not catch the Chrome process doing anything weird or anything when downloading something.

Jan 17, 2013Earlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.

Jan 22, 2012My computer was superfast until it started giving problems. It literally takes 30 minutes to start up and it freezes every 2 minutes. The Windows Experience Index showed a rating of 7.9 for the processor but now it only shows 4.9. The pc is quite new, I bought it 19 months ago.

Mar 15, 2012I have a Sony Viao with Win 7 Home Premium and I just deleted some form of Trojan with MS Security Essentials and then I ran windows updates before I restarted the machine. Windows update installed some security updates along with Service pack 1 and IE9. Now the computer will not load Windows. It goes straight to the startup repair but cannot fix the problem. There is not restore points other that when SP1 was installed and I gives an error every time I try to restore it. I can get to a command prompt and I have tried to run sfc /scannow but it tells me there is a system repair pending which requires a reboot and then does nothing. I also tried check disk(just as a last chance) but that didn't do anything.

Dec 12, 2012I have an acer aspire 5742 laptop. I was running windows 7. I do not have a disc as it was already loaded onto laptop that was a gift. Machine was running ok, it would overheat from time to time as i think the battery was on its way out, anyway thats not the problem. 2 days ago it switched itself off, when i tried to reboot i got a screen saying windows failed to start with options to -launch startup repair or - start windows normally. when i choose start startup repair it says in grey at bottom of screen loading windows files then it goes to a black screen and freezes. If i choose start windows normally it says starting windows and logo appears, then it just crashes.
