View 3 RepliesI am using Win 7 Pro x32 and have partitioned my hard drive into two NTFS partitions. One is for my Windows other one is for my files and personal documents.I'd like to know how to format the partitions in terms of cluster size. I read a lot of articles which didn't actually answer my question - what are the differences between formatting with a big and small cluster size, and how does all that influence the overall performance. I should also mention that I am willing to sacrifice some bits and bytes from my partitions, if needed, as long as I could somehow increase performance. Also, I noticed that the standard Windows 7's formatting dialogue allows to format a partition only with a limited size of clusters compared to trying to format a partition using software such as Acronis Disk Director or Paragon Hard Disk Manager where I was able to format with a much greater cluster size. What to do, what to do...? You could save the small talk such as - 'small cluster size wastes less disk space but works slower, and vice versa, greater cluster size wastes more space but gives better performance'.

i've got a server and. the problem is. i installed a new windows server 2003 and now im getting the error: BootMGR is Missing already tryed this cmd commands:
bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
if i install a new windows its very fast with installing just takes like a minute its too fast, already tryed some things. but didnt fix it yet

It looks that Win 2003 server can only see Windows XP and Win 7 Ultimate. We like to buy some newer PC but don't want to pay for Business or Ultimate. Is there anyway that Home Premium can connect to Server 2003

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running a 2003 and 2008 server the 2003 is the primary DC. Most of our PC's are XP and were testing 2 windows 7 machines.
The desktops and some shared drives were stored on a nas box but it was unstable so I shifted the desktops and some public shares to a server on one of the DC's. I redirected the shares using netlogon scripts and they took fine on all computers XP and Windows 7, the desktops were redirected using Group policy, all the XP machines took the redirection, a few needed the users to be reset though. The issue I'm having is with the 2 windows 7 PC's, they have taken the shares but not the desktops. The desktops were working before. I have tried deleting the users and login in again, I have also tried to remove the regedit policies but no success. I have even taken the PC off the domain and put it back on with no success. The same users log in fine on the XP PC's and get the desktop.
I have a computer running Windows Server 2003 that i would like to connect to my computer running Windows 7 ultimate. i have done everything it says to in the videos and tutorials but i cannot get the server to connect to the internet. i can connect to it via remote desktop but it cannot connect to the internet nor can any other computers on my network see the server only the Windows 7 PC that the server is connected to. FYI - I have the win server 2003 connected to the Win 7 computer via Ethernet and i set up saring on the win 7 computer but it still cannot connect to the internet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Win7 (at home) and when I try to configure Outlook 2003 to connect to the exchange server that our company uses. It cannot get access to this server. It says outlook must be online to access the exchange server.
All other internet access works perfectly. I've checked and rechecked all the settings. They are correct. It worked fine on VISTA. I did a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade. Continues to work fine on my XP Pro station. Seems like something is blocking it from going out over the Internet.
When I try and copy files from my Windows 7 Home PC to my Windows Server 2003 share, it copies so much then hangs the Server sharing. It then appears that the share has disappeared.If I copy from the Server 2003 to 7, it copies fine, and copying from XP to 2003 also works fine.I had a chat with a colleague who told me that he has the same problem copying from Vista to XP.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with offline files created offline syncing back to the server. I have set up a network share to be available offline on a client computer. All files are available offline without issue. Here is the issue however. If I set the folder to work offline any file I create in the folder when it is offline just disappears when the folder comes back online, there are no conflicts or sync failures reported in sync center. If I create a new folder offline the folder does sync back to the server. Any changes made to an existing file are also replicated back to the server once the share is back online. So the issue is only with newly created files when the share is offline. I have not been able to replicate this error on any other file server in our environment, However I have recreated the issue with multiple shares with multiple Win 7 clients on this file server.
Steps taken so far.
- Checked and reset permission levels on the share.
- Recreated new shares from scratch for testing.
- Disabled and enabled offline files on the client computer and cleared the offline cache.
- Check various registry entry settings.
- Disabled cashing on the File server.
- Tested with XP the issue does not exist with XP.
The clients are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. The File server is Server 2003 Standard 32 bit with SP2.
Are there any benefits of upgrading to 2008 if your only usage is streaming movies to a web server. Any pros / cons?

This is not a small network, one of the biggest network.i have doubt on individual users on domain. before 2 months we had department wise users mean, for example Accounts@domainname.local. But after we created the individual users like john@domainname.local to all users. this is i believe the cause of problem. When we acess the server via the software it freezed for 5 seconds and then repeat to normal state. And after some time it hangs for 2 minutes.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSomeone is giving me their older computer, with pretty unimpressive specs. The only thing I'm concerned about is the 512MB of memory. On the other hand, I'm only planning on using the computer to act as a torrent and backup "server."
Will I have any issues running Windows 7? How about 64-bit, which allegedly requires 2GB of memory minimum? If I can't run it, it's not a big deal, but I was hoping to have all my systems running Windows 7.
I am testing some of our computers on our school system and got to the stage of joining it to our domain. They joined fine but the domain had never been connected to vista or windows 7 so it tried to upgrade itself. This crashed the server because it only had permission to change the sub domain.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed the following printers: Epson LX-300+II, HP Laserjet 1010, HP Colour Lasterjet 1515, Canon IP5200.
The printers work and are all displayed from Word, IE, etc, but only one printer shows up in Windows 7 Devices & Printers - usually whichever is selected as default printer. If I remove the displayed printer, it shows me another one. When I first installed, it showed me all the printers, but problems started after I had to remove and reinstall my printers.
Basically what the title there says, the quotations show the only information given to me on this issue. I've turned off Comodo as I read on a different help topic that they can sometimes interfere,I'm using Home edition, 64 bit, if that helps at all.ackup software to use perhaps? Basically, my computer has had issues with it before (some that have completely stumped even my most tech-savvy friends!) and after multiple instances in the past solved only by a full re-install, I'd like to make sure it -stays- functional, without me having to wipe my drive due to some inexplicable error and fully re-install again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 Home Premium 64bit Control Panel -> Devices and Printers show some printers (PDF995 and Microsoft XPS Document Writer) but it does not show my HP OfficeJet 4500. Applications (like IE or Firebird) show it in the list of printer and can print to it.
Edit: I forgot to mention, I am running in the Administrator account and both the laptop and the printer on the same WiFi router. The printer showed up in Device Manager after I clicked Display Hidden Devices (kind of silly to hide devices from the Administrator.)

View 7 Replies View RelatedHave been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.
I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.
(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).
The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.
I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".
I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.
It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).
I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.
Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.

I created an image using the Microsoft Backup and Restore tool in Windows 7. I saved the image on a network shared folder.I then went to the Advanced Recovery Methods in Windows to restore my image...that I just created. It restarts the computer and goes into recovery mode, I point to where the image is located, I entered the network credentials and it give me an error. "The Specified network resource or device is no longer available. (0x80070037)"

The files I'm talking about are files that get altered by appending stuff at the end of the file, e.g. log files or mailbox files, so it's generally possible to split a new version of the file at the exact point where the old version stopped, purely by file size.
Specifically, I want to back up Thunderbird and SeaMonkey mailboxes without having to create additional subfolders within those programs. I understand that if something had changed near the beginning of the file, then the whole file will have to be backed up, unless the backup program is capable of some very clever searching, but mostly the files will change only by having data appended to it.
