Hitachi 4TB Deckstar Only Showing Up As 1.7 TB?
Apr 23, 2012I have a Dell XPS 8300. I just threw a Hitachi Deckstar 4TB drive in. It shows as 4TB in the BIOS. But in the disk management tool, it's only showing up as 1.7! I have 24X3TB (yes, 72TB) of drives attached via USB3, and they're showing just fine, so it's not the 2TB limit.

Jan 22, 2010OK, I have an ASUS P5k Pro with the latest BIOS installed with Window 7 Pro 64 BIT. I just bought 2 SATA 1T Hitachi drives (HDS7210CLA332). All sata drives are set o IDE in the BIOS.
At first I added the two drives to my existing Windows 7 installation and all seemed fine, but I did notice that it installed some sort of driver, but couldn't figure out what it was. The drives were recognized after I did a reboot. (The same thing happen in XP SP3 as well.)
I decided to install windows 7 on one of the new drives (after all it was newer and faster), I partition the harddrive to about 500 megs, formatted the partition using window 7 setup (booting up from the DVD), the OS installed, I then let Window 7 do the updates, was forced to reboot, I then get an error that it couldn't find a bootable drive on boot up.
So I reran windows setup tried recover to fix the drive, same error, so went to reinstall window 7 again, this time it told me it could not install the drive on the partion.
So, rebooted back with my original Win7 installation and all was fine with the drives as extra drives in my system.
Anyone have any ideas?

Sep 25, 2011I was importing Pix from my Kodak Easy Share camera. After doing that, I unplugged my USB plug, but inadvertently unplugged my Ext HD USb plug(formerly Drive F). I then removed the USB for the camera and then plugged in the HD USB plug.
My computer now showed my Camera as an external device. I uninstalled it. I turned off the computer, but still I can't access the F drive. Finding the device via Ctrl Panel doesn't help either.

Jul 8, 2011I just recently bought a new system and while installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64, I noticed that the hard drive was only using 2tb's of space. After some checking I found out the window's will only be able to use 2tb's unless I use the Hitachi's disk management tool to open the additional 1tb. Now the problem I am having is that the tool notes I need to convert the drive from MBR Disk to GPT Disk.
I was found several ways of doing this but none give me any information on how to do this if the drive itself is the primary boot drive for the PC. Unfortunately I don't have another hard drive or PC to throw the new one in just for the time being (I am assuming that this is one way to resolve this).Basically it doesn't let me convert the hard drive to GPT unless it is empty (again, I am assuming the OS needs to be gone as well).

Dec 1, 2009I have Windows 7 64 bits in a DELL Laptop Latitude E4300 working fine (more or less). I just plugged into it a USB HD from iomega with 500 GB capacity. I can see this disk without problems in all my XP (32 bits) based systems. But not on Windows 7. When I try to open it I get the error message:
Cannot access F:
The archive is damaged or inaccessible
I know the disk is fine. I have in this very same computer vmware installed with Ubuntu 64 bits where I can mount the HD and see it without problem (?) but not in the host Windows 7 system. I saw a driver installation message the first time I plugged into the laptop on Windows 7 but clearly, this was incorrect.
Should I uninstall the driver and get it from somewhere else other than the default place (which did not seem to work well)?

Jan 15, 2013I was playing Mass Effect earlier. Got off because of school, so i put it to sleep. When i returned home, I tried getting on steam. The path wasn't found, so I didn't think anything of it. Rebooted. Still no path, so i go to my slave HDD, and surprise! It wasn't there for some reason. I've looked for it in disk management; no where to be found. Ran seatools, no luck. I had around 300 GiGs on there.I also turned off the laptop, took out the battery, and both master and slave drives for an hour. NOTHING.
EDIT: when i check disk management, it seems there is a drive of some sort on there, but it has no name.. It's blank. Nothing but *Status* has any information: "Healthy (OEM partition)." When i try to right click, the menu only has a "Help" tab.

Then my desktop PC displayed messages telling me my firewall and virus software had been turned off and the computer crashed. ROOTKIT? So I was left with 2 drives not working. I re installed windows on desktop but using ISO on flash drive BUT can't on the 500GB Hitachi HTS545050B9SA00 for some reason. Windows setup loaded and Deleted old partitions and formatted. When I tried to install, it froze. It now just boots up with a windows loading screen and I'm also unable to boot from flash drive as it freezes. This is on a Sony Vaio VPCEB4E4E.

I've been to the Intel site and there doesn't seem like there is a proper Windows 7 Update for the ICH6R Controller since the Intel® 82801 FB/FR I/O controller has been discontinued.

Sep 17, 2012My 750gb hard disk is failing on a HP laptop that came preloaded with Windows 7 home prem. I have a SMALLER excellent 500gb, 7200 rpm hard disk that I'd like to replace the failing hard disk with. I've read that my Windows 7 System Repair DVD will not restore my recent system image (on NAS) to a smaller partition. The C:partition on the failing drive is well over 600gb but can shrink to 300gb. QUESTION Can I restore a system image from my larger drive "as is". If not, and I shrink my C: partition (contain windows) ay 350GB will I be able to restore the system image to where windows will boot?I have an old copy of (7.0) partition magic that I used to resize partitions on XP machines Can this old 32 bit partition magic safely resize my C: partition. If so, and I create a new system image can I restore it to the new disk?
